462332 tn?1208414791 My neurologist explained that the lab report findings were of changes in the hippocampus and that such findings were normal in patients who have seizure disorders. (BTW, I was diagnosed with encephalitis at about 13 or so but my doctor was pretty poor and I highly doubt that's what it was.) However, he did find that my blood work came back with a positive reading for ANAs. He has since recommended that I speak with a rheumatologist.
Avatar m tn After the seizure I am unable to use the left side of my body as well as the right and this last time i had partial paralysis in the left side of my face and issues walking. I have before been paralysed from the waste down for 3 months and many times been forced to wrk with a walker bc my left side is not fully opperational. Is there anything that you can tell me to ask my doctors to check for or any advice that you can give me. Please I just want to live a normal life again.
Avatar f tn You should probably see a neurologist, for the seizure as well. You should certainly document all of your symptoms, physical and mental (smells, tastes, fears, panic, etc.) for your doctor visits. I have one son with epilepsy, and lost my daughter to epilepsy. Neither child had or has thyroid or pituitary issues. I am the thyroid issue, lol. However there is potential connection as both can be the result of underlying autoimmune disorders. My family has a long list of autoimmune disorders.
Avatar f tn I currently take Trileptal for Partial Seizures (my seizures are well controlled with it) but whenever I miss 2 doses in a row (which I obviously try not to), I experience numbness and tingling in my face and head. I know these are symptoms of MS and I know Trileptal can be used for MS patients to help with nerve issues. I guess my question is should I see my neurologist? Is it possible that this face numbness/tingling sensations are symptoms of MS? FYI I am a 33 yr old female.
Avatar m tn I have partial seizures and experienced what you are talking about. My seizure activity is in the left temporal lobe. I am on 900 mg of Trileptal a day and now seldom have these spells. Have you had an EKG to see if you may have seizure activity? My MRI and routine blood tests were also normal. It was also found that I have severe central sleep apnea, which made the seizures worse. A CPAP helped with this problem.
Avatar n tn what is a partial seizure like? Recently I have noticed that I wake up with a migraine and I am trembling/shaking uncontrollably and very weak for a short time afterward. Could this be a seizure of some sort?
1221035 tn?1301000508 I have heard that the new drug approved for use to help improve walking in MS patients can prompt seizures. I haven't seen any cautions about lowering seizure thresholds with Copaxone (the DMD I take).
335728 tn?1331414412 I am baffed (done for) for tonight and not feeling too great so I think I should just relax for a while. I promise I will get back to you though ok? Talk Tomorrow|!
Avatar n tn Hi, I sincerely feel that the symptoms which you’ve described are suggestive of partial seizures and levetiracetam(torleva) is the right drug for the same but I feel that you may not be getting adequate dosage of the same and hence there’s incomplete cure of the symptoms. I think you should discuss with your neurologist regarding increasing the dosage of Torleva which may result in an improvement of your symptoms.
Avatar f tn What specialmom said is correct, the prescribing physicians are the ones who can best answer these questions. I would call them as soon as you can to get these answers. Have you ever considered getting a autism/seizure dog for your child? My daughter who has ASD has a service dog and he has made a huge difference in her life. Not only would the dog help prevent the self-harming behavior, but he/she could alert you when a seizure was happening.
Avatar n tn She did have one EEG 48 hr that did not show anything although I understand that the activity may or may not show on EEG for simple partial seizure. How common is abdominal epilepsy? Is there a center in the US that is well known for this?
Avatar m tn s use in persons with seizure disorders. What is your experience with this in your patients, especially since it will be used in the hip/leg area, not near the neck/head? Thanks in advance for your responses!
Avatar f tn The balance problems and partial seizure looking things are what keep getting ignored. You think -that's- caused by anxiety or depression?
Avatar n tn He had been treated for epilepsy for 3 years without any control, and actually started having gran mal seizures while taking epilectic med Keppra I requested a cardiac work-up due to these gran mals occuring immediatly after exercise. He also had a hx of migraines after exercise, but these had subsided about the time I noticed these Absence seizure like activity. The cardiologist right away said he thought it was NCS, poss with a seizure disorder too.
Avatar n tn Hi, my son is 4 and just went on trileptal a few months ago. He has focal seizures/temporal lobe (partial and partial complex) not sure if this is the same as your sons-it seems these seizures have many names. He has had them since 2 1/2.. My son does have a strong tempermant and is very particular about things-I have seen a bit of increase since the meds started but not much.

Avatar n tn Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with a doctor. Without the ability to examine your niece and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of her symptoms is or how to treat them. However I will try to provide you with some useful information.
Avatar f tn Evening primrose oil may lower the seizure threshold and use is contraindicated in patients with seizure disorders, schizophrenia, or individuals receiving anti-seizure or anti-psychotic medications. Therefore, before using this herbal supplement for hair loss I would consult your doctor to see if it is appropriate or if they can recommend something else due to you taking Seroquel (which is classified as an anti-psychotic agent).
Avatar f tn One can have partial and generalized seizures at the same time. The seizures usually start of to be partial and then spread to the other parts of the body to be called generalized. Partial seizures are traditionally known to originate from the temporal lobes. If the partial seizures activity generalizes, it spreads to other lobes. I wonder if she was diagnosed as "complex partial" and "generalized" by the same doctor.

Avatar f tn Docs always told me it was an anxiety attack but come to find out I was having simple partial siezures with aura. I remain conscious, have the seizure and then fall asleep. Completely wipes me out and most of them occurred in the evening or with lights/sound triggers. Antihistamines caused mine too. Hope this helps!
1392168 tn?1280074408 However, most people only have this symptoms as a warning to a bigger seizure. Do you experience these smells and then have periods of memory lapse and confusion afterwards? That would indicate a complex partial seizure. This is not so bad as most complex partial seizures are easily treated. Unfortunately, these episodes have also been seen in people with other neurological disorders, like schizophrenia or Alzheimer's disease. Both of these disorders can cause hallucinations.
