Paroxetine and insomnia

Common Questions and Answers about Paroxetine and insomnia

paxil

Avatar m tn Just to say, insomnia is a very common long-term withdrawal problem when you stop antidepressants. When did that start? How well did you tolerate stopping the paroxetine? Why did you stop taking it? Did it stop working? Did you taper off slowly before starting the cipralex? I'm asking to see if we can trace what's happening and when it started so you know what's causing what.
Avatar m tn Also, it sounds like you are certain that you have anxiety and depression, and that is what the paroxetine is for. And paroxetine does not particularly have a reputation for keeping people awake at night, at least not that I have ever heard of. So I don't know about getting off paroxetine and staying on the amphetamine, when you're not sure you even have ADHD, and amphetamines are well known for causing insomnia.
190885 tn?1333025891 One of the nasty treatment side effects is insomnia. Paroxetine (Paxil) is also prescribed to help restore the sleep cycle. But it's not successful in everyone. Some people get a bit wired on the drug, and for them it's not appropriate. Others get sleepy and calmed, and for them it can be helpful. In the latter case, it's often prescribed along with a valium analogue for sleep.
1563026 tn?1295031701 t have any side effects, but 2 months later i started to suffer from insomnia ( trigger was stress and rhodiola rosea IMO), could it be because of low serotonine levels?what would be the best alternative to ssri? i also lack motivation, could it be due to low dopamine induced ny ssri consumption?
Avatar m tn My doc immediately prescribed me 20mg of Paroxetine and 10mg of Buspirone. He wanted to up my dosage to 25mg of Paroxetine and 15mg of Buspirone. I didn't want this however because I know there are some withdrawal problems with paxil. I'm just worried about taking these two medications together. Thanks.
Avatar f tn The switch is not abrupt, she first reduced the dose of paroxetine and started with a low dose of the new drug for a while.
1723975 tn?1309987899 Hi i have depresion and i am too sleepy, the psqui. doc put me on paroxetine less than 10mg for now then he said i will incrise the dosage, my question is, will this med make me gain wight???
Avatar n tn My mother who is 79 years old, has severe arthritis and has dealt with anxiety for many years has been prescribed for sometime by her doctor to take 20 mg Paroxetine and 2 mg Alprazolam in the morning, 1 mg Alprazolam at lunch and 2 mg Alprazolam before bedtime. Paroxetine is the generic for Paxil and Alprazolam is the generic for Xanax. Is it normal to be taking Paxil and Xanax at the same time?
20003388 tn?1515166040 It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. When on Paroxetine and I was tired ALL the time. I was literally falling asleep at my desk. It was hard to stay awake. I do have obstructive sleep apnea however I use a CPAP every night. According to the readout on the machine I usually stay between 2 and 4 events an hour. My problem is, since I switched to Fluoxetine I had been having difficult falling asleep at night, one extreme to another lol.
Avatar f tn I was given Paroxetine for depression/anxiety over a year ago. I didn't take it however. Tried talk therapy for 6 weeks instead. I feel now, however, that I need to go on meds. I was just wondering if someone can tell me what to expect after taking paroxetine. Does it really work? How long does it take it to work? And are there any noticeable changes at all the first few weeks. Before, I did take one pill when I was given the meds.
Avatar n tn Combining fluoxetine or paroxetine with phenytoin can also lead to increased phenytoin side effects and reduce blood levels of paroxetine. You really need to discuss the potential drug interactions with your own doctor.
Avatar m tn So I have been taking Paroxetine(Paxil) for 4 months now and it changed my life, took away my O.C.D. and my social anxiety. But i had side effects so i started taking Bupropion(wellbutrin) So after 1 days dose which was 1 pill twice a day, I had my O.C.D. back about half as bad and my social axiety came back about half as bad. So i stopped taking the Bupropion and i am still taking the Paroxetine but it's not working as well as it did before.
Avatar f tn Hello Doctor, I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and my GP put me on Wellbutrin XL 150mg. I went back to him at the beginning of January and he upped the dosage to 300mg. Since I had just filled my prescription for 150, he told me to take 2 until they were finished. I didn't have a problem until I got the 300mg pill (January 20). I usually take the pill with food, but it seems that by 1-3pm, I start to get weak and nauseated.
Avatar f tn ve been suffering from depression and anxiety since childhood. My question is what are the similarities between Paroxetine and Xanax, and what are the differences? Also can anyone tell me if both medications have similar effects on a person; I'm currently on Paxil, but I was wondering if it was anything like Xanax? Thank you for your time.

Avatar f tn However, my insurance is not picking up the Cymbalta, so my dr ordered Paroxetine in its place. I do not want to take drugs unless necessary, and I have gotten to a point that my pain affects my work. I definitely do not want to take an anti-depressant unless it really works. Any issues or compliments about this drug for neuro-issues.
Avatar f tn I was on Sertraline for quite a while, and know that it can cause heart problems, and you have to be regularly checked. It did not cause me any problems in that way. I was then put on Effexor because I was told it had less side effects. It does however cause weight gain. It is difficult for you to know what to do. You can try the paroxetine and see how you go. I don't have any other suggestions.
Avatar f tn Ive been switched from Paroxetine to Zoloft as am looking to try for a baby and this is supposed to be 'safer'. My doctor has changed me over gradually. I took Paroxetine 20mg for 2 weeks plus Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg, then went to Paroxetine 10mg and Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg and 5 days ago I've stopped Paroxetine altogether and am now just on Zoloft 50mg...I've went to the doctors yesterday because I feel terrible terrible - headaches, feeling incredibly depressed and crazy!
Avatar n tn 2 to 1 month for someone not being introduced with a new drug. Could be shorter for your husband.
Avatar n tn t function without paroxetine, I have been weaned off once and I was not too bad for 2 months but the Anxiety did return and I couldn't eat or function at all, lost a stone before I went back onto paroxetine. I was trying for a baby, I will wait for a while now. BUT I want kids however I can't do it without meds i'm affraid, None of my Drs seem to know what's safe and what's not and they don't want to make any comments about it yet.
12182312 tn?1427683956 My paroxetine is 40mg, and metoprolol is 25mg. Are they safe to take together. Is one an upper, one a downer. I take Paxil in the morning, metoprolol before bed.
Avatar n tn In general, the use of paroxetine (or other SSRIs) with TCAs should be avoided if possible, or otherwise approached with caution if potential benefit is deemed to outweigh the risk. Pharmacologic response and plasma TCA levels should be monitored more closely whenever paroxetine is added to or withdrawn from therapy in patients stabilized on their existing antidepressant regimen, and the TCA dosage adjusted as necessary.
Avatar f tn I had a severe allergic reaction to Citalapram and was taken off and had to wait for my appointment with the psychiatrist which was a week and a half ago. He perscription for Buspirone and Paroxetine. I didn't start taking the medicine right off the bat because of fear that i was going to have another bad reaction and ended up having another attack last night. I started taking the Buspirone this afternoon and was wondering how i should take it and the Paroxetine.
Avatar m tn just briefly, it is in the class of SSRI (the first line and most popular class) Antidepressants and it will take approximately 6 weeks for the mediation to take effect for most people. some do respond in as little as 2 weeks. the medication should not be stopped cold turkey to avoid withdrawl. your doc may have to increase the dose if you can tolerate it for full effect. The best information I can give you is found at this link: https://online.epocrates.com/u/10a1095/Paxil.
Avatar f tn I shall see about the other as reading what people have put about paroxetine has put me off.
