Avatar m tn My doc immediately prescribed me 20mg of Paroxetine and 10mg of Buspirone. He wanted to up my dosage to 25mg of Paroxetine and 15mg of Buspirone. I didn't want this however because I know there are some withdrawal problems with paxil. I'm just worried about taking these two medications together. Thanks.
Avatar f tn This is a simple one, you need to stop the drinking. That's really the BEST option here. IN the VERY least, you're going to need to cut WAY back. Here's some info (excerpts from link posted below): "Paxil or paroxetine and alcohol act on similar chemicals of the brain and this is the main reason why doctors advise the users of Paxil not to combine it with alcohol." " The main concern is that Paxil increases the effects of alcohol.
Avatar f tn I was given Paroxetine for depression/anxiety over a year ago. I didn't take it however. Tried talk therapy for 6 weeks instead. I feel now, however, that I need to go on meds. I was just wondering if someone can tell me what to expect after taking paroxetine. Does it really work? How long does it take it to work? And are there any noticeable changes at all the first few weeks. Before, I did take one pill when I was given the meds.
Avatar m tn A few studies have shown that anti-depressants can have a positive effect on this area of the brain, I was just wondering if this is true, and if so which drugs have shown the most promise?

Paroxetine is the generic for Paxil and Alprazolam is the generic for Xanax. Is it normal to be taking Paxil and Xanax at the same time?

Avatar m tn There have been postmarketing reports of serotonin syndrome when linezolid was given with or soon after the discontinuation of serotonergic drugs, particularly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors such as paroxetine and sertraline.[9][110][111][112] It may also enhance the blood pressure-increasing effects of sympathomimetic drugs such as pseudoephedrine or phenylpropanolamine.
Avatar n tn In general, the use of paroxetine (or other SSRIs) with TCAs should be avoided if possible, or otherwise approached with caution if potential benefit is deemed to outweigh the risk. Pharmacologic response and plasma TCA levels should be monitored more closely whenever paroxetine is added to or withdrawn from therapy in patients stabilized on their existing antidepressant regimen, and the TCA dosage adjusted as necessary.
1563026 tn?1295031701 Usually long term SSRI use refers to a period beyond a few months of acute phase treatment and early maintenance phase. This can mean a number of years. I'll be happy to know a better way of answering this part. Your sleep disturbance could be there due to a relapse of the depressive state, which in turn involves low Serotonin. Also, the lack of motivation is often a part of depressive states.
Avatar n tn Combining fluoxetine or paroxetine with phenytoin can also lead to increased phenytoin side effects and reduce blood levels of paroxetine. You really need to discuss the potential drug interactions with your own doctor.
Avatar f tn While your son may be on a host of meds from the doctor, one thing that a young man will find hard to give up is the bonding and good feelings alcohol and pot can provide. Drinking underage is a bonding experience. The pot subculture is definitely something to bond to. We may all know that drugs and alcohol are bad, mmm'kay? ;) But let's face it, they make you feel darned good.
Avatar m tn So I have been taking Paroxetine(Paxil) for 4 months now and it changed my life, took away my O.C.D. and my social anxiety. But i had side effects so i started taking Bupropion(wellbutrin) So after 1 days dose which was 1 pill twice a day, I had my O.C.D. back about half as bad and my social axiety came back about half as bad. So i stopped taking the Bupropion and i am still taking the Paroxetine but it's not working as well as it did before.
Avatar m tn Anything more than 2 in men and 1 in women and the benefit disappears and in its place a liability emerges and increases as alcohol intake increases. The study regarding cardiac benefit did not single out any particular alcohol though it mentioned that it did not factor in any possible added benefit from red wine. I should mention that I am not a doctor. I am a patient and I have learned some things as a result of my situation.
Avatar f tn ve been suffering from depression and anxiety since childhood. My question is what are the similarities between Paroxetine and Xanax, and what are the differences? 1033596 tn?1252519593 Right now I am exercising vigorously once a day, and I have cut back on my alcohol consumption by a lot. Still--I battle with snacking. Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn The revised labels instruct clinicians not to prescribe tramadol to patients who are suicidal or addiction-prone, and to exercise caution in prescribing the medications to patients who use alcohol excessively, suffer from emotional disturbance or depression, or take tranquilizers or antidepressants.
Avatar m tn If you are definitely SVR having had your six month test at least and you are not in advanced liver stage an occasional drink isn't going to hurt you most likely. I know my doctor said one a year but.....I hardly ever follow that rule. Not good advice to give but I've been cured for over three years now. Still I wouldn't have wanted to ask my doctor either knowing what he would say.......

Avatar f tn However, my insurance is not picking up the Cymbalta, so my dr ordered Paroxetine in its place. I do not want to take drugs unless necessary, and I have gotten to a point that my pain affects my work. I definitely do not want to take an anti-depressant unless it really works. Any issues or compliments about this drug for neuro-issues.
Avatar f tn I was on Sertraline for quite a while, and know that it can cause heart problems, and you have to be regularly checked. It did not cause me any problems in that way. I was then put on Effexor because I was told it had less side effects. It does however cause weight gain. It is difficult for you to know what to do. You can try the paroxetine and see how you go. I don't have any other suggestions.
