Common Questions and Answers about Panting cats symptoms

fainting

Avatar n tn Don't panic. Cats do that and there's a good chance that she just has an upset tummy, having ate a rubber band or something. Look for other symptoms, though. Do her eyes seem unusually dilated? Does she seem disoriented or distressed in any other way than what you have described (like swaying, crying, moving around aimlessly, tilting her head in a weird way, anything like that)? Is she drooling or foaming around her lips?
Avatar f tn Do all female dogs have disdended vulva, or is this an abnormality with my two females? And, 2) Are their symptoms of panting and leaking urine typical of post-maternal/late-age neutered dogs? Was the fact that they had pups and then got fixed the cause of their suffering later in life? My first, a beautiful Aussie, never once had her mouth shut from panting until the moment I euthenized her. My newest, at least, only does so when she is warm or excited. Might hormone therapy help her?
1232362 tn?1333135406 Please know that coughing (unles it's a hairball) or panting is NOT ok in your cat. We had an upper resp, virus go through our house and 2 cats were fine. The 3rd I thought had mucus in his throat or trouble breathing due to stuffy nose like the rest and didn't realise his distress till he coughed up a frightening gob of green phlegm. Bob spent last night @ the vet w/pneumonia. happily (so far-say prayers for my boy) all signs looking good for him and he's coming home tonight.
232077 tn?1218423343 Everything came back normal except he had elevated liver enzymes at 145 (vet said cats should be 25-30). The vet just said to keep an eye on him and if everything goes back to normal to just get him retested in a month. Also Opie had a behavioral change at the vet. Normally he is calm, but this time he was panting heavily and howling (too much stress perhaps?
Avatar f tn My dog was panting a week. Pay day she went to vet. Said probably tick desease. Could be lymphoma. WBC high and swollen lymphnodes. Doxy and steroid. Came back 2 weeks. Better on the mend but still needed antibiotics So tried a different one. Even better and were ready to say she is ok. I said still panting can we try one more. Going on day 6. I accidentally only gave half a dose. Panting very bad always. Huge quadruple sized lymphnodes. Says could be babesiosis but convinced lymphoma.
Avatar n tn Is the dog overweight by any chance..heavy panting can be normal, but it can also be symptoms of overweight or possible heart problems..I'd have him checked out by a vet to be sure. We have golden retriever who has been a heavy panter. We've had him on a diet and he's lost 24 lbs and seems to be panting less..
Avatar f tn When we had our cats fixed, they did not behave this way. so this is very foreign to me. I understand she is tired, i get that she doesnt want to eat alot,, but what is concerning me.. is that she is breathing what i think.. is fast. what is normal for a dog that just went through being spayed?
Avatar m tn I have a 4 year old, 11lb Yorkie that keeps panting at night. It is like clock work!!! Every time between 6 and 7pm, he starts breathing hard. There are fans everywhere directed right on him. He is fine during the day, eats his food, alert, cuddles, wants to play and god for walk, etc. I took him to the vet and they told me he is fine and to "keep an eye on him". Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Any suggestions?
318181 tn?1336443496 if that makes a difference) does not react very well when given Advantage. She will walk around aimlessly for hours after, panting, and not being able to lay down and calm down. I don't really like giving them the flea meds, since I know it's basically a pesticide that will stay on their skin, but I feel like I have no choice, since I also have three cats in the house, and living in Texas, fleas could be a real problem if it gets in to the house.
Avatar m tn Our nine year old dog Tess is waking early hours of the morning panting, shivering and barking, all with her tail waging. She barks mainly at the dog door and then runs around the house, then back to the door and off again. When I pick her up she wants to lick me (normally she isn't a licking dog). I've tried to take her into bed with me but she keeps wanting to jump off and goes back to the living room where she 'guards' the dog door, barking and all the rest of it.
Avatar n tn Get a syringe or eye dropper and force feed him. He might be dehydrated as well, so he needs liquids or you will have to take him to the Evet for IVs. A cat 10 years old is considered senior but he isn't too old to give up on him. You need to get him tested for FIP and other illnesses that may be causing this weight loss and lack of appetite. I am pretty sure there are appetite stimulants over the counter for cats, but I'm not sure if they work.
Avatar n tn Some pets (dogs and cats) do not like being upside down. However with the other symptoms you describe after being on her back, I believe I would want to know for sure she was not having a medial issue within the chest. I would also want to examine the mouth and back of the throat very well.
Avatar n tn My 14+ year old female Jack Russell was on heart medication, fortekor for 7-8 years and recently she has developed mild coughing (coughing frequency about 2-3 times a day) since last month and the vet prescribed her additional medicine such as pred syrup and prodin syrup for 5-7 days. But after taking the steroid for 4 days, she started panting more and shiver on off the whole day especially more on morning and night. She was normal (except coughing) before the pred syrup till the 4th day.
Avatar n tn Any other symptoms? Constant panting is a sigh of PAIN! Hiding would go with this, also......You need to try to figure out where it might be coming from and get her evaluated by your Vet.
12457380 tn?1428840823 she was groggy, unable to stand even if she tried to get up and wants to come out of the cage. around 4pm I noticed she was panting and then at some point her tongue is sticking out! I panicked coz even though this is my first time dealing a spay, I got my male neutered but he didn't pant or anything. I phoned the clinic and I was advise to bring her back. so I did. they took her temperature and it was 40 degree celcius. she said it was probably stress due to wanting to go out of the cage.
495284 tn?1333894042 The beagle will soon be 12 yrs old and lately i have been noticing her panting alot. This is not caused by the weather either. Water consumption has not changed. Is this something elderly dogs do or is this something my vet should be made aware of?
Avatar m tn my kitty cat inky, who is a black angora, about 4 years old and has been having seizures for like, 5 months... since december, at least. she was 3 when she started having them. well, after the next few seizures we took her to the vet and did extensive bloodwork and even checked her stool for parasites. everything was normal, except she tested positive for exposure to the feline coronavirus. she's been alive since then and no other symptoms have appeared. and....
Avatar f tn You should also wear gloves while gardening to prevent any contamination from parasites spread by feral cats. Interestingly, cats only shed the parasite for a very limited time after they contract toxoplasmosis. You can contract toxoplasmosis from eating undercooked meat or by not thoroughly cleaning utensils and surfaces that were in contact with the contaminated meat. There have been some cases of infection from blood transfusions. Good luck...
Avatar f tn Stress or pain can certainly cause panting, but I would not expect a skin infection to cause these symptoms unless the infection has spread internally, which would be unusual. If there is any swelling of her belly, if she seems weak, if her gums become pale, or if her heartrate consistently increases over 120 beats/min, then I would recommend calling an emergency veterinary clinic and getting her seen tonight, if that is possible.
Avatar n tn Her symptoms before involved a dry cough, gagging (acting like throwing up but nothing coming out), and heavy panting/restless behavior at night. These symptoms continued for a couple weeks before her death. We took her to the vet to see what was wrong, but all they told us is that she was old and she could have had heart problems/cancer. Right before she passed away she actually seemed normal at first, she was eating and walking around ( but panting).
Avatar n tn is the shortness of breath being referred to in the other questions anything like panting? My son is doing this panting thing....yes...like a dog. But they are spaced out, one in and out breath, and rather shallow. Other than that, this seems to be a great help to him. I see a huge difference...it's all good. No appetite problems, no flat personality, he is great.
Avatar m tn An ultrasound and xray was done, She has a heart murmor, enlarged liver, enlarged heart, enlarged adrenal glands. Around this same time the panting and constant eating was increasing. No further prednisone was given. The leaking stopped within a week or so of antibiotic treatment. The dogs snoring has increased and her breathing at all times has become more labored. She never had any hair loss but we thought for sure she had cushings.
Avatar f tn He has done really well but lately I have noticed that he is panting more than usual. It has been hot in our part of the country but we have a yellow lab who doesnt pant as much. The last couple of days we have noticed Sparkys legs seem weak. He stumbles and his back legs seems to give out when he goes down the stairs. His appetite is still great! I have been giving him Tums for the past few days because he is waking us up in the night to have a bowel movement and its always loose.
Avatar f tn My dog was given predisone and the dude effect was severe panting. He could not sleep all night. What can help to stop the panting?
Avatar f tn Two weeks ago after walking, she never stopped panting, and has been panting ever since. The only time she doesnt pant is when she lies with her head flat between her paws. Initially an urinalysis, thyroid profile, lab profile(CBC), lab profile (gen diag) were done. Then chest x-rays were done, and Prednisone, Ciprofloxacin, and Aminophyline perscribed. All these medications were stopped by the vet at intervals as she didnt improve.
1273000 tn?1330998809 She has also been vomiting which she never has done and has gone off her food a bit which is definitely not like her coz she normally eats EVERYTHING! Also been panting a lot too!!! I know I should just take her to the vet but I live in a small town and the vet is closed.
