Avatar f tn And, 2) Are their symptoms of panting and leaking urine typical of post-maternal/late-age neutered dogs? Was the fact that they had pups and then got fixed the cause of their suffering later in life? My first, a beautiful Aussie, never once had her mouth shut from panting until the moment I euthenized her. My newest, at least, only does so when she is warm or excited. Might hormone therapy help her?
Avatar m tn Yes, this does sound like a seizure.....Whether it's the food or not, you must get rid of it!!! It's a terrible food and Purina is poisoning dogs all over this country with absolutely no recalls, yet dogs & Cats are becoming violently ill and/or dying on Purina foods....Last complaints I looked at were up to 4000 so far..... Get him on a food with No Dyes, No preservatives, No artificial Color, No by-products & very few grains such as whole grains...
Avatar f tn My 12 year old black lab is just sitting here panting. He has been panting since this morning and won't cool off. I checked his temp and it's 102.7 and given him ice. He won't eat but will drink a whole bunch. He was fine and running around a couple of days ago. Do dogs get colds? Ok to give asprin to fight the fever??? At a loss here..
318181 tn?1336443496 Hi everyone, I've never posted on this forum before, but I have a question to those of you who use Advantage Flea & Tick medication on their dogs. I have two dogs, and while one has no reaction whatsoever to the meds, my other dog (who is also hypothyroid...if that makes a difference) does not react very well when given Advantage. She will walk around aimlessly for hours after, panting, and not being able to lay down and calm down.
Avatar n tn Right before she passed away she actually seemed normal at first, she was eating and walking around ( but panting). I tried to calm her down to stop her panting but to no avail. She started to foam at the mouth and she was losing her balance. I then became worried and was getting ready to go to the emergency vet nearby, but I was too late. I saw her rest her head and close her eyes to take her last breath. could it have been heart failure? Would I have been able to save her?
Avatar m tn Our nine year old dog Tess is waking early hours of the morning panting, shivering and barking, all with her tail waging. She barks mainly at the dog door and then runs around the house, then back to the door and off again. When I pick her up she wants to lick me (normally she isn't a licking dog). I've tried to take her into bed with me but she keeps wanting to jump off and goes back to the living room where she 'guards' the dog door, barking and all the rest of it.
Avatar f tn If she was fed too soon or too much after anesthesia or had excitement like going to a new home, that would be unremarkable. Panting in dogs is normal with excitement, overheated condition or anxiety. Being in heat shouldn't be a factor. If she has a respiratory virus or "kennel cough" she could have a mild fever. In any case, do ratchet down your own anxiety. None of this is likely to be serious. Followup with your doctor for confirmation.
Avatar n tn I always thought that panting was a way dogs cooled off, since they do not perspire. Just a thought.....
Avatar n tn ve stopped the steriod for 1.5 days. Is it normal for dogs to be shivering and panting more after taking the pred syrup? How long does it takes the last dosage to wear off? Yestersday, the vet prescribed very mild dosage of lasix for my dog and should I start giving her lasix now or should I wait till her steriod to wear off ( when she stop shivering and panting)? Vet is afraid lasix may cause her pancreatitise to come back again if given larger dose.
Avatar f tn Jerry us correct that dogs use panting as a way to cool off. They do have sweat glands in their foot pads. On a hot day, you might even notice the dog leaving footprints on a floor. And that is due to their foot pads sweating. Some dogs don't care for fans but that us usually because they might scare them. Many kennels use fans to keep the dogs cool. Dogs I have had here, the one I have now included, will lay under a ceiling fan when it is hot.
Avatar n tn Right now she seem need to throw up but not throw up...and her stomach seem panting but her mouth is close..shes quiet girl tho. sometimes she would put distance between me and my other 2 cats. She will be two years old in feb. Any clue what is might be the issues?
Avatar m tn He started barking and panting very fast. He does not want to move now. Not sure what is wrong with him.
Avatar n tn My dog is 7 years old and she is a Bichon Maltese. Since last night, she has been panting constantly and she runs into hidden small places that she has never gone to before. What do you think is causing this strange behavior?
1232362 tn?1333135406 Please know that coughing (unles it's a hairball) or panting is NOT ok in your cat. We had an upper resp, virus go through our house and 2 cats were fine. The 3rd I thought had mucus in his throat or trouble breathing due to stuffy nose like the rest and didn't realise his distress till he coughed up a frightening gob of green phlegm. Bob spent last night @ the vet w/pneumonia. happily (so far-say prayers for my boy) all signs looking good for him and he's coming home tonight.
Avatar f tn I voted for dogs, but cats are right up there too, in fact, dogs would be favorite A and cats favorite A1. LOL. Dogs are so loyal and loving, cats, on the other hand act like they could care less, but, they give them self away by purring, they are both terrific. I love ALL animals though, my next favorite after doggies and kitties is the horse, I love them, I used to teach riding when I was in high school.
1632896 tn?1299942340 I like both, but I prefer to keep a cat for my one pet policy apartment. I've always been drawn more to cats for some reason even as a kid. But, I grew up with both, so I definitely do like dogs. I just don't want to keep one as my own.
152660 tn?1291755571 I'm in a big quandary. My 75 year old father is losing his drivers license so he is going to be stuck at home all day mostly alone. I thinking about getting him a dog to keep him company. The problem will be the cats. They don't like dogs or don't like those that they have been exposed to. Does anyone have any suggestions on breeds better with cats, how to introduce them or any other suggestions for me.
152660 tn?1291755571 Hi there, Okay, I have a few questions to ask you. How many cats do you have ? How old are they? How long have you had them? We have a cat too who is very good at climbing. You mentioned putting up a baby gate to keep your cats and the dog you're thinking of getting apart. If your cats are as good as my cat as climbing, this won't work. Cats can climb baby gates. We have tried putting a baby gate up at the foot of the stairs. We live in a townhouse.
Avatar f tn Two weeks ago after walking, she never stopped panting, and has been panting ever since. The only time she doesnt pant is when she lies with her head flat between her paws. Initially an urinalysis, thyroid profile, lab profile(CBC), lab profile (gen diag) were done. Then chest x-rays were done, and Prednisone, Ciprofloxacin, and Aminophyline perscribed. All these medications were stopped by the vet at intervals as she didnt improve.
1683681 tn?1305153930 One way to ensure the cats get the right food is to separate the eating areas for the cats and the dogs. My mother used to have small dogs and a couple of cats. Water was left for all the animals from the same bowl. But, the cat food was placed up on the top of the dryer where the cats could get it but the dogs couldn't reach it if they tried. Sure, the cats nibbled a little bit of the dog food, but instinctively they ate the right food most of the time, so they had the right nutrition.
Avatar n tn Up until recently they get along with everything, ie other dogs and cats. In June we were horrified when they killed one of our cats. Since then they have killed 3 more. Our whole family is in complete shock. I am at a loss as to what to do. When the dogs are in the house with the cats they are fine but if any cats get in the yard they kill. Is there any hope to change them back to "cat lovers"? Please help...
441506 tn?1267533765 My dog is sick, or in pain, I am hoping someone can tell me NOW if panting is a sign of pain. She yelps at times but as I feel her everywhere she doesn't yelp. She refused her dinner! THIS is NOT normal!! I have made plans for tomorrow to take her to the vet, but I am afraid right NOW! She is cowering and panting and NOT EATING!!!! ANYONE THERE???
Avatar m tn Hi. Yes, the panting should slowly stop and normal breathing should return. It's hard to see our best friends in discomfort. I'm sure everything will be fine, so try not to worry.
534013 tn?1250201049 Rules for introducing cats to dogs: 1: Hide all copies of the Old Testament. There should be NO references to biblical catastrophes involving "Cat's and dogs" ie; "It's raining cats and dogs", "Cats and dogs lying down together", etc... don't let them get any ideas!!! 2: Lock up Knives. Be sure all cutlery (knives) are locked securely in drawers. 3. Local and Federal Law Enforcement. Inform your local police and homeland security of the situation.
1394098 tn?1385960134 My personal experience with "dog people" who hate cats is because cats don't show blink loyalty, even in the face of abuse or neglect like dogs more often do. And these "dog people" often do treat dogs they way they treat humans, but that isn't necessarily a good thing. On the other hand, I know many people who may prefer dogs as pets, but don't dislike cats as a whole.
