Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis treatment and prognosis

pancreatitis

Avatar f tn ve found some info that implies a link between Pancreatitis and Pleurisy, but am wondering how they are related? He does take prevacid and ursodiol for GERD, and is on TOBI, Cipro (for pseudamonas) and the usual Pulmozyme, enzymes, etc, etc, etc. How are these related? How can we prevent pleurisy? Will it reappear later as we fight CF? Will having had it affect his long term prognosis?
Avatar n tn Hi. I think that it is critical to get a definite diagnosis once your father's condition has been stabilized. There is a big difference in terms of prognosis if that pancreatic "mass" turns out to be cancer or if it is a case of pancreatitis (this cannot be ruled out at this point). Although his condition right now is severe, if it is pancreatitis, it's potentially reversible and your father may recover from the illness. Doing aggressive treatment is justified in this case.
Avatar m tn After sleepless nights we finally got the MRI results back, he has 7 apparent tumors, one even being 17 cm long, also in liver and kidney. The first doctor gave us a grim prognosis, practically assuring he had days to live. A family friend who had a similar situation said "thats what metastasis looks like, it happened to my father".
Avatar f tn We recently did two rounds of IVF to have a 2nd child. During the pregancy, she got Pancreatitis twice and resulted in baby being delivered at 32 weeks and extended stay in NICU. In the last 6 months she continued to have gull stone issues, as well as Chones disease, and lost 60 lbs. they did a procedure to put dye in the bile ducts to see if she needed to have her gull bladder removed. Shortly after, within 2 weeks, her stomach started to buldge and her eyes turn yellow.
Avatar f tn The decision to give or not to give further cancer treatment/s will depend on a lot of things. Consider the age of the patient, risks and benefits of treatment, possible side effects, and end point in making a decision. For now, your father needs the best supportive care he can get. Take care.
Avatar f tn We rushed him to the ER where they diagnosed him with food bloat. Within 2 days he developed pancreatitis and started to show significant signs of improvement (more energy, more appetite, drinking water, no more swelling, not tender, etc). They allowed us to treat him at home as long as he was eating and drinking and getting better every day, which he had been. We brought him back to the vet twice for extra fluids.
Avatar f tn t start treatment with a medication that can cause pancreatitis while you have pancreatitis. I bet any doctor would tell you that. Epclusa includes sofosbuvir which lists "pancreatitis" as a possible side effect. Here's a study that says.... "There were 7 grade 3 events including anemia, neutropenia, nausea, hypophosphatemia, and cholelithiasis or pancreatitis." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar f tn I am a 60 year old female who was diagnosed in the late 80s with acute pancreatitis and still have sporadic trouble today in 2014. A few weeks ago I was diagnosed with hcv and was wondering what effects I would have with the two diseases together, for instance if given treatment for my hep-c will it make my pancreas worse or will I even be able to do the hcv treatment at all?
946446 tn?1295975694 It is usually begun with other chemo drugs or started after them depending on your regimen and your doctor and is course of treatment for 11 or 12 months. Thanks for providing more details, it really helps us to help you better. I just finished 11 months of Herceptin on Nov. 30 of 2010. Avatar m tn 18 2008, I was diagnosed with either a vestibular schwannoma, meningioma, hemangioma or lypoma brain tumor on the right cerebellopontine angle cistern. What are prognosis and treatment options for the latter two? Are they the same as with the vestibular schwannoma and meningioma? Your input is greatly appreciated.
1674610 tn?1317002220 There is a 'standard' form of treatment to try to stabilize anyone experiencing pancreatitis. If your doc puts you in the hospital, the inital treatment will be to help control the inflammation. They'd start treatment off with fasting. You'll stop eating for a couple of days in order to give your pancreas a chance to recover. Once the inflammation in the pancreas is controlled, they'd start you on drinking clear liquids and eating bland foods.
Avatar n tn Has she been checked for autoimmune pancreatitis? What are they attributing the bulge in the pancreas to?
750120 tn?1252455030 One is to discontinue treatment and the other is to delay treatment until the pancreatitis has cleared up then start again slowly. Blood work they took today will determine the course of action they choose. The pancreatitis is extremely painful but morphine is extremely effective (smiling).

Avatar n tn Trouble was I had a really bad Nicorette habit. Low and behold I have chronic pancreatitis and if I chew the gum--the pancreatic pain skyrockets. I would say "YES" Nicorette either causes, triggers, or aggrevates pancreatitis.
