719251 tn?1230340905 My mother has been suffering from Pancreatitis for the past 4months. She has been in hospital three times with severe pain, vomitting, and fluid in the abdominal. In that time she has lots over 25kg. She is 60 years old but since loosing so much weight she looks like 80 years old. She no longer drinks but continues to smoke. What worries me the most is that she eats very tiny amount of food, she vomitts everyday and she is just not getting any better.
Avatar n tn Many of my conditions are related to post-Graves Disease. Ten years ago I had my gallbladder out after an attack of acute pancreatitis. I subsequently developed chronic pancreatitis and was diagnosed with Sphincter of Oddi. Rather than have the invasive surgery I went on a strict, fresh chicken soup diet with supplements ordered by an Ayruvedic doctor. Within 2 years I was completely recovered and could eat anything.
1126279 tn?1311895042 Im wondering if you can really live without your pancreas?I have chronic pancreatitis and I take pancreas mt20 which helped a great deal but now it is getting to the point where its not working...Does this mean that there is no hope ? Or maybe my doctor needs to perscribe higher dose if possible?I am in pain but it is not great.Im eating chicken noodle soup everyday plus a multivitamin.Im dizzy and I have diarrhea.Im wondering why arent my enzymes working anymore.
Avatar m tn Hi, I saw a post of a case similar to mine where the liver was affected as well as the pancreas with wieght gain instead of loss on a low fat diet. Im wondering what causes that especially in pancreatitis? I loss alot of weight a year ago, was real sick with abnormal bruising and weakness, falling down, ect, this was before pancreas started acting up again, prior to that I had only one acute episode of pancreatitis.
Avatar n tn I have been referred to a surgeon in Cinncinnatti for a complete pancreas removal "Whipple", and an Islett Cell Transplant. This surgery is scheduled for april 24th and I am very upset about it and do not know what to do. I have had chronic pancreatitus for 6 years, and it has gradually gotten worse causing me to have to quit work two years ago. Pseudocysts were found in my pancreas 6 years ago, and were removed surgically, in which it took 18 months to get over.
Avatar n tn In about 15% of cases of acute pancreatitis and 40% of cases of chronic pancreatitis, the cause is never known." Source: http://www.emedicinehealth.com/pancreatitis/page2_em.htm Doing your own research can only help. Check out the "First Principles of Gastroenterology", http://gastroresource.com/GITextbook/en/Default.htm. I would take special note of the biliary system, Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction and pancreatitis.
Avatar f tn need help with my husband he has hep c the treatment did not work he has scerossis of the liver and was recently released from the hospital from pancreatitis he has been hallucinateing recently one night so sever he riped out ivs and fled from the hospital the dr said his amonia levels arnt up so not realated his urine is so brown the dr said not realated.
Avatar f tn I would like to ask a question of Dr. Lupo. I have chronic pancreatitis diagnosed as chronic 6 years ago. I am on stron pain meds and have to fight the insurance company to get them, sometimes not get them. I have increased pain in the last few months and the meds are just not cutting it. I have been to my gastro/pancreas specialist and had some tests done and I will be going on a transplant list. I am taking Methadone HCL 10 mg. 2 tabs 4x day & have been taking 600 mcg.
1453931 tn?1285185353 Sorry to hear about your pancreatitis. Just a question how did you know you had chronic pancreatitis? I had my GB removed just like you in 2008. I had a bile leak and when they preformed a ERCP I got acute pancreatitis. It is a risk associated with the ERCP. Anyway after my amylase and lipase went down to normal I was checked out of the hospital. However since then I have had horrible nocturnal abdominal pain and it also happens when on an empty stomach longer than 4 hours.
Avatar f tn many things could have caused it--renal dysfunction, infection, pancreatitis, hemolytic anemia, dehydration or cancer.
Avatar n tn I HAVE BEEN SENT HOME WITH PAIN MEDS 3 DIFFERENT KINDS WHEN MY STOMACH PAIN COME ON THERE IS NOT MUCH I CAN DO THE ONLY THING THAT SEEM TO CALM MY PAIN DOWN IS I.V. MEDS AT THE ER. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I HAVE PANCREATITIS . MY PHYSICIANS(GASTRIC) HAS TRIED JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING POSSIBLE. I AM AT MY WITS END. THIS IS NOT HOW I INTENDED TO SPEND THE REST OF MY LIFE IN PAIN, NAUSEATED AND VOMITING. IS THERE ANYTHING OR SUGGESTIONS THAT YOU HAVE IN MIND.
Avatar n tn aI'm posting this under general gastroenterology instead of Pancreatitis because I don't want something to get missed because of a myopic approach. In 1994, when I was 34 yrs old, I was diagnosed at Duke University Med. with pancreatitis. Pancreatitic and liver enzymes were all above 3000's. Since then I have fought chronic pancreatitis on an almost daily basis. It was considered unknown causes. I don't smoke or drink alcohol or take illicit drugs.
471161 tn?1317190950 This is not regarding a transplant but I hope you won't mind me asking this because a family member has been diagnosed with a fatty liver. He is overweight, about 40lbs. and drinks beer (about four) per day. I am very worried because he seems to be in denial since he was told. I know someone who went this direction and ended up with pancreatitis.
312330 tn?1245176752 We tried using Methotrexate a few months ago, but my liver enzymes skyrocketed and I developed acute pancreatitis (they have never clearly found the cause of the pancreatitis, whether it was medication-induced, or part of the disease). My liver enzymes continue to remain elevated and I feel quite similar to how I felt when I first had Hep A, except that I'm not experiencing that nausea/vomiting....instead I just have the fatigue and URQ pain.
Avatar n tn i am unsure of why you are having this discomfort--it almost sounds like mild pancreatitis which could also be from alcohol. your doc is right that invariably the liver blood tests would be abnormal if you were causing liver damage. it sounds like you should definitely cut back your drinking though. they have done a colonoscopy but sometimes the colon can look normal and biopsies are needed to exclude forms of colitis.
Avatar m tn No family history of pancreatitis or cancer of stomache or pancreas. Mother had gall stones removed. No stones noted on my Not depressed, family history of generalised anx disorder. taking Pristiq 50mg 1 day. Very good results. Having an upper/lower gi end next month. 2 past upper/lower gi end 1 in 1997 - ok, one in 2006 was also normal. No pylori noted there.
Avatar f tn Restless, there's no specific number as to how many stents are too many. The problem is that your biliary duct tissue may not be able to handle 'x' numbers of being 'invaded.' Are you working with a doc who specializes in SOD (sphinter of Oddi dysfunction)? If you're not, I really, really want to push you in the direction of working with docs who handle SOD and pancreatitis routinely.
Avatar f tn In August I had a total pancreactectomy with auto islet transplant. This was the result of more than 2 years in constant pain with pancreatitis. I moved in with my parents before the surgery. They told me they had no idea how bad it was because I can due a fairly good job of hiding the pain and was able to keep my job (really due to FMLA). I had this 12 hour operation aware I was trading one set of problems for another.
Avatar f tn My baby Sasha wasn’t acting her normal self since Christmas Eve. I noticed when i came home her bowl was still full like she hadn’t ate anything . She’s been moping around looking sad, not eating , throwing up & barely drinking water so she’s very dehydrated now. So on Tuesday i take her to the vet & she was diagnosed with pancreatitis. I spent $600 where she is hospitalized on 11/29-11/30 today under IV fluids, pain medications, meds to control her vomiting. But she’s still not eating..
1932256 tn?1327946340 We do not have enough details of your son's illness, exactly how sick he is, how far he has progressed, if he has other complications or diseases, or anything other than he is in the hospital with alcoholic hepatitis. Also, we are not doctors. That being said, the liver does try to repair itself from injury and regenerate. It can only do this if the person refrains from injuring it further with alcohol, drugs, other toxins, etc.
Avatar f tn I respectfully disagree with the response that was given to your post. The bacteria in the gut is impacted by numerous factors over our lifetime. Anything from illness to stress to medication use can skew the number and count of bacterial organisms in the intestinal tract. That, in turn, can quickly or more slowly lead to dysfunction. I believe probiotics can be beneficial for many things, including just general good health.
Avatar n tn they also said he is septic and has pancreatitis do to the liver disease. i am really scared for him and confuzed by everything i am reading on the web i googled final stages of cirrhosis and to me it seems like he has past that part if anyone can help.
Avatar f tn This may help slow the progression of the disease. You should be seeking treatment from a liver transplant center if you are not already. Even if you do not need a transplant you will receive the best treatment available. Any other doctor even though their intentions are good just isn't qualified enough to treat your cirrhosis. Preventing or slowing the progression is critical.
Avatar n tn I had exactly the same thing happen to me after gb surgery, however, imo, I am infuriated that rather than call it what is IS which is either one of several forms of pancreatitis with or without sphincter of oddi dysfunction, the medical community decided to give it a new name Post Cholecystectomy Syndrome.
Avatar f tn s been petrified to eat anything (he was also diagnosed with acute pancreatitis so when he eats something bad it acts up and causes him a lot of pain). I've done a ton of research on Cirrhosis and I am confident that I can help him change his lifestyle when that comes back confirmed, but there's not much I can do about liver cancer and the survival rate doesn't look too great. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Avatar n tn The endoscopy found mild gastritis. All other test are normal. The pancreatic specialist did not mention pancreatitis at the time and only prescribed nexium and sulcrafate for the gastritis. I am 67, and never had a previous bout with pancreatitis. Moderate beer drinker. How should I be treated?
