Avatar f tn I respectfully disagree that a persistently elevated triglyceride level should be attributed to being on other cholesterol reducing agents. Generally, triglycerides should decrease with an effective cholesterol regimen. Discuss this persistent elevation with your doctor. In these cases, niacin or a derivative may be an option to decrease the triglyceride level.

Avatar m tn Theses numbers sound pretty good. However, your triglyceride number is also important. What is that number? High triglycerides can lead to plaque formation in your blood vessels. If your triglyceride number is high, you'll want to cut down on sugar intake. Exercise helps keep that HDL (your happy cholesterol) level up, as well as eating certain foods, such a pistachios and certain plant sterols (they make a buttery spread with these in it) can help.

212161 tn?1599427282 Your diet is too high in total fat and saturated fat. The only way to decrease your triglyceride level is by minimizing your intake of fats. Saturated fats are found primary in animal proteins, eggs, oils. You have to be a label reader. Total fat should be less than 40 gm/day and sat fats <15 gm. 20-30 minutes of aerobic exercise /day would also help. If you adhere to this diet, your triglycerides should decrease on follow up labs.
