Avatar f tn I am in the same boat as both of you. Did you have acute pancreatitis when it first hit? Have had acid issues for yrs, last yr started getting upper left sided jabs of pain, my lipase was doubled and then remained slightly elevated for at least 2 wks. My pain lasted at least 3/4 months now the pains have come back some...not to the same degree. I have had so many scans, but pancreatitis does not show.
Avatar f tn My CA went from 43 the first time I was tested a yr prior to the abdominal pain, 37 the month prior to the abdominal pain to 66 when it turned out my lipase was elevaed. My lipase went down but remained slightly elevated for at least 2 wks (it has not been checked since), my CA 19 had gone down 10 points. I have had the following tests during the past year: CT scan, MRI, MRCP, EUS and another EUS 6 months later- all 100% clear.
Avatar m tn When pancreatitis occurs she always has a strong pain with elevated Amylase and Lipase levels suggesting a pancreatic dysfunction. Yesterday she woke up vomiting with just a litter abdominal discomfort. Blood work shows no significant levels of amylase or lipase. I thought for a moment she probably has a gastric virus but then the Dr. said when the pancreas stop producing this enzymes she still going to experience pancreatitis, Is this possible? Then Dr. said..
Avatar f tn In the absence of these findings its unlikely that you have chronic pancreatitis. The other causes for the pain could be infections of the bowel and bladder, prolapsed intervertebral disc or inflammatory diseases of the colon. So, if your symptoms persist discuss these options with your doctor. Regards.
Avatar m tn So he doesnt think that its Chronic Pancreatitis but feels its acid pain. Now my pain is on and off. When I eat oily or spicy food it recurs with mild to moderate pain.
719251 tn?1230340905 My mother has been suffering from Pancreatitis for the past 4months. She has been in hospital three times with severe pain, vomitting, and fluid in the abdominal. In that time she has lots over 25kg. She is 60 years old but since loosing so much weight she looks like 80 years old. She no longer drinks but continues to smoke. What worries me the most is that she eats very tiny amount of food, she vomitts everyday and she is just not getting any better.
Avatar n tn Does the duct dilatation set off an inflamation of the liver and pancreas and cause the pancreatitis pain? Also can the duct dilatation heal on its own in time? I have no desire to undergo an ERCP as I've heard such nightmare stories from people who have undergone but yet I'm so tired of not feeling good and having pain and just would like to feel good again. Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn I have constant pain in my back and under my rib cage, where my pancreas is located. My doctor says it should eventually stop hurting but it doesn't seem to be improving. My gallbladder has been removed, my blood work is normal and scans of my pancreas show nothing. Does anyone know what it could be? .
Avatar m tn I was a heavy drinker and threw up alot and had diarrhea all the time withe some left side pain. I had acute pancreatitis. Its wprth checking put the by chance found a mass on my right kidney. I just had a partial nempfractomy for renal cell carcinoma.. worth a check. Good luck take care.
Avatar f tn You may have chronic pancreatitis. Find a biliary specialist soon. You should get testing to determine if you have this or not. If you do they will advise you what to do to help.
Avatar f tn Quest I have been diagnosed with a small pancreas cyst. It’s about 2cm. They would like to do a mri to see what type of cyst it is, apparently there’s a lot of different types. I have been feeling very nauseous and tired lately. Also feel I lost some weight. Can this mean it’s a cancerous cyst? Can these symptoms make you feel sick. Also my lipase levels are elivated, not sure if the pain and nausea is from the inflamed pancreas or the cyst.
Avatar f tn With repeated bouts of acute pancreatitis, damage to the pancreas can occur and lead to chronic pancreatitis. Scar tissue may form in the pancreas, causing loss of function. A poorly functioning pancreas can cause digestion problems and diabetes.
Avatar m tn t know what it was but I would definitely have your doctor send you to have your pancreas enzyme levels checked. If they are elevated, you may have pancreatitis. I also found out from my doctor today that anomalies in the pancreas are a big cause in pancreatitis. You said that there is something wrong with your pancreas...perhaps this may be the reason?
Avatar n tn Also a little history I went to the ER twice before that about 6 years ago on the worse pain I have had in my life much worse than the pancreatitis pain but it only lasted a couple hours and no one even tested my blood. I think it may have been related to what I have now since the pain was in the same area. My twin sister also has crohns disease. Can they be related? Or can the pancreas still be causing all this? I am just so worn out from it al and no one has a clue whats wrong.
Avatar m tn but this is what i know of pancreatitis - The Pancreas duct is blocked with small calci stones which in turn blocks the pancreatic juice produced by the pancreatic cells. Now because the juice is not flowing out of the duct freely, it starts digesting the pancreas itself. This causes the uncontrollable pain (Spasms) in the abdomen part and pain can continue for hours and even a day unless a painkiller is used.
Avatar f tn There are people with chronic pancreatitis and I knew a woman last year that had her entire pancreas removed because of it. Since there is a history of cancer has a oncologist checked you out or is this all primary care and/or GI doc? Other things to consider - gall bladder (stones AND functionality), stomach issues like gastritis... I'm sure there are more... Do you have any other symptoms? Good luck and God bless!
Avatar n tn I assume that it is pancreas... However, I am very scared about some serious abnormalities in pancreas. Can anyone help me with the explanation of the tests I had - is it enough to rule out the bad things? I am very very scared and going crazy because I do not know what is going with me..... Thank you very much for your answers..... Sincerely, Lila This discussion is related to elevated lipase.
Avatar f tn I am sorry but you are wrong, CT scans will not show chronic pancreantitis untill your pancreas is severely damaged, if it is in the early stage of this disease the only good test for this is a endoscopic ultra sound, ERCPs are very dangerous be cautious not to do this, especially if you think you have a pancreas problem! Chronic pancreatitis and acute are completely different!
Avatar f tn Hello, I have been sick since Friday. I'm having lots of pain, vomiting, nausea and diarrhea but lately my lipase and amylase levels have been low. The doctor said my pancreas is sluggish and work like it should and this is why my blood levels are normal. Can anyone tell me if exocrine pancreatic insufficiency affects lipase and amylase levels during a pancreatitis flare up? Also has anyone ever had normal blood levels with pancreatitis?
Avatar m tn Yes, could be you have pancreatitis or some other pancreas problem, particularly if your yellow color on your stool is accompanied by a bad odor. The back pain and left side abdominal pain increases the chances that it's the pancreas. However, could also be a liver problem, malabsorption, and bilary problems. If your urine is a strange color, then could be hepatitis is in the mix.
Avatar m tn They had no idea why he had the pain nor why he has all these long-term symptoms. He still did not have pancreatitis - inflammation levels were non-existent. He was scanned and told the only thing looking abnormal was that his pancreas looked 'bulky', but doctors didn't see that as a problem and made no further investigation as to why it's 'bulky'. He was sent home after a few days.
1674610 tn?1317002220 Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Pancreatitis is usually caused by gallstones or alcohol. Pancreatitis can't turn into pancreatic cancer but people who already have pancreatic cancer, can get pancreatitis which is why you and your mother had the same symptoms.
