Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis pain diabetes

pancreatitis

Avatar m tn He was in hospital for a couple of weeks and got better gradually. Doctors established that he had acute pancreatitis and secondary diabetes. The cyst was drained. As my husband has had pain for years and we found out that pancreatic cysts coupled with secondary diabetes (doctors established that he has had secondary diabetes for years without knowing) are symptoms of chronic pancreatitis, we thought he had, had chronic pancreatitis for years.
Avatar f tn Due to excessive alcohol consumption, I have been hospitalized with pancreatitis 3 times. They were all very severe attacks. I've been sober since the last hospitalization, over a year ago. I have constant pain in my back and under my rib cage, where my pancreas is located. My doctor says it should eventually stop hurting but it doesn't seem to be improving. My gallbladder has been removed, my blood work is normal and scans of my pancreas show nothing.
Avatar n tn Thannks a lot Dr. for answering me. My husband ( 39 yrs old) got diabetes after he had chronic pancreatitis attack last year. he does not have any pain for the last one year and he also takes his pancreatic enzymes. His weight has neither decreased nor increased. Is having Diabetes Mellitus because of pancreatitis a major risk factor for Cancer. Please answer me i will be highly thankful to you for this .
Avatar f tn Okay, I was wondering because a friend of mine has shown symptoms of hyperthyroidism, after I had done some research, and I plan on urging them to get this checked out. I also know that this person's father has pancreatitis. I read that thyroid disorders can be hereditary. Do you think that this has anything to do with the possible hyperthyroidism, the association between pancreatitis and thyroid disorders? I can't find much about it. And are thyroid disorders linked with diabetes?
Avatar n tn Door, autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is an unusual form of pancreatitis that has only recently been recognized as a distinct disorder. AIP is an unusual form of chronic pancreatitis. The immune system mistakenly attacks healthy pancreas tissue, causing inflammation and hardening. Symptoms closely mimic pancreatic cancer (pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma), but the disease process is different. It can be a multisystem disorder in which the disease can affect other parts of the body.
Avatar n tn I certainly agree that you should be tested to rule out type 1, or autoimmune diabetes. The treatment for autoimmune diabetes is insulin. Insurance coverage for treatment may also be different if you are diagnosed with T1 vs. T2 diabetes.
Avatar n tn One thing I should mention, pancreatitis can be a precursor to diabetes. A year later, max developed diabetes. (We manage it very well with diet and Vetsulin but it takes dedication, a rigid feeding schedule and 2 shots a day.) Keep an eye out for the symptoms once your pal is well. Early symptoms include increased drinking, iurinating more (accidents may be a sign), weight loss, increased appetite, dehydration and sudden cataract formation.
Avatar f tn How long can someone live (approx) with Chronic Pancreatitis when they are a heavy drinker? I have a family member that was Diagnosed with this and continues to drink heavy! He has had many attacks! This last time they wanted to place him in ICU but he checked him self out against Medical advise! If he continues to drink like this what will happen to him? Worried!!!
Avatar n tn Hi, I wonder if anyone can offer any advice at all? I am reluctant to go to my GP, as I am currently being treated and investigated for so many other issues (diabetes, Cushing's disease to name just two!) and I'm sure he's going to think I'm a moaning hypochondriac! I had my gallbladder removed 18 months ago, following NO symptoms of gallstones (despite being full of them), BUT following an attack of acute pancreatitis.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with mild pancreatitis over 4 years ago it is on going. I currently still am experiencing slight pain on my right side. I have been seen by a GI doctor and a CT Scan, Ultra sound, MRCP have been performed. No issues have been found, I asked if it could be cancer and was told no tumors or cist we found wehn reviewing the xrays. We then tried to stop my BP meds thinking they could be the cause, but I could not stay off of them long enough to make a determination.
Avatar n tn Hello.....It's possible that this has been a chronic case of undiagnosed Pancreatitis that has now lead to Diabetes....... Did this show up on any of her tests? Diabetes can cause sudden blindness & can be a result of the Pancreatitis....Just a thought....I do hope she's doing better....Please, let us know.......
Avatar f tn I know that it is usually VERY painful. Are you having pain? If so, does the pain worsen significantly after you eat? The best thing you can do is contact your doc and have the appropriate diagnostic studies done. Pancreatitis needs treatment, as you know, so it is best to find out for sure. Best of luck to you.
Avatar n tn and people in pre diabetes can have elevated enzyme levels if the pancreatitis symptoms are from diabetes...im just throwing out some thoughts, and your doc,,well, hes the cod,,,but i think things will work out for you,,,believe me you would know if it was chronic,,,my bud was in the hospital and not even morphine would curve the extreme pain of chronic pancreatitis,,,,many times people get one accute case, and it NEVER effects them again....ever.
Avatar f tn In November 2008 I went into the hospital with pancreatitis. I knew nothing about pancreatitis before that day but that day changed my life forever. I went into the emergency room 3 times before they finally figured out what was wrong and admitted me. Once they realized the severity of my condition they said if I had waited even 24 before getting treatment I could have died. I was there for 10 days. I spent my 30th Birthday and Thanksgiving in that hospital.
Avatar f tn Also, did you take the pain medication every day? Does your pain come and go or is it constant? Did the baby have any side effects?
Avatar m tn t necessarily pancreatitis, but look where it ended up, she was so damaged she got diabetes. But pancreatitis is a description of an inflamed pancreas, not what caused it, and you can damage your pancreas' ability to manufacture enzymes without getting pancreatitis. I'm afraid one way or the other you're going to have to see a gastroenterologist if you want to get a diagnosis that tells you if you have a problem with your pancreas, and that will require a lot of diagnostics.
Avatar f tn Fluid therapy, regular blood work (sometimes several times a day), pain meds or a patch for pain and antibiotics are often used. This is a very painful condition. In pancreatitis, nutrients the dog needs are passed out in the feces, thus probably the reason for the weight loss (and that is quite a bit). Has he been checked for diabetes?
Avatar f tn With repeated bouts of acute pancreatitis, damage to the pancreas can occur and lead to chronic pancreatitis. Scar tissue may form in the pancreas, causing loss of function. A poorly functioning pancreas can cause digestion problems and diabetes.
Avatar n tn Acupuncture is helping with pancreas pain. The acupuncturist taught me how to massage the spleen channels in my legs when the pancreas pain starts, and it's relieving that pain! Will keep you updated as I continue treatment.
Avatar m tn However, a few weeks after beginning the injections the abdominal pain returned along with all of the other pancreatitis symptoms. I went to my doctor who thoroughly tested me and said I do not have pancreatitis despite the symptoms. I would also add that he does not know what I have and seems to be under the impression I just want drugs. The feelings of things not being real had returned even stronger despite the injections and I am freaking out. Has anyone heard of anything similar?
Avatar f tn I went to my doctor and she suspected it was my gallbladder so she ordered blood tests. That night, the pain increased in severity and I went to the ER. Bloodwork revealed that my lipase and liver enzymes were elevated, so I was admitted. The doctor suspected that a gallstone was blocking a bile duct. I stayed overnight, had a HIDA scan the next day and was released because everything was normal.
Avatar n tn My daughter is 25 with Type I diabetes. She has had chronic abdominal pain which radiates to her back for close to 10 years. She is on narcotic pain meds, which have not been totally effective in mitigating the pain. A CT scan taken last month revealed: no evidence of masses or pancreatitis, the absence of the pancreatic body and tail, no pancreatic ductal dilation, difficulty in visualizing the pancreatic duct, and hypodense areas in both lobes of the liver.
