Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis pain control

pancreatitis

229538 tn?1300377767 Is she on pain meds? sounds like pancreatitis is quite painful and its a good idea to use pain control to promote healing. for long term pain control the most recommended opiate is BUPRENEX or TRAMADOL for cats. good pain control would also make her feel more like eating, but on the other hand loss of appetite can be a side effect of some of the medications...so need good Vet advice there. Are you assist feeding her? If she is not eating well, hepatic lipidosis is a very serious worry.

Avatar m tn my 30 year old sister, non-drinker, on birth control pills, has been having epigastric pain for a couple of weeks, Blood work shows, elevated amylase levels (not elevated lipase), high triglycerides (rest of the cholesterol tests are normal). Her CT scan shows no problems to the pancreas but some fat infiltration to the liver. The doctors are not sure exactly why she is presenting this way.
Avatar f tn You may need some hospital time to get your pancreatitis back under control. It ***** knowing things like this. I have been hospitalized several times since the original pancreatitis diagnosis 2 1/2 years ago. I got it after my gallbladder was removed and the surgeon scattered stones around and nicked my cystic duct and clogged another duct. I had an ERCP and got pancreatitis 2 days later. God bless you and I hope you feel better soon...

Avatar n tn I had to put my 11 year old Llhasa apso to sleep yesterday because he was diagnosed with pancreatitis and was in so much pain that they could not guarantee that he would survive even with treatment. It came on suddenly...he was fine Saturday but began throwing up in the middle of the night and continued...he couldn't even hold down water and was very weak. I took him into the veterinary hospital on Sunday and he was too weak to come home.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with mild pancreatitis over 4 years ago it is on going. I currently still am experiencing slight pain on my right side. I have been seen by a GI doctor and a CT Scan, Ultra sound, MRCP have been performed. No issues have been found, I asked if it could be cancer and was told no tumors or cist we found wehn reviewing the xrays. We then tried to stop my BP meds thinking they could be the cause, but I could not stay off of them long enough to make a determination.
Avatar f tn My son is 11 after being sick and diagnosed with Glandular Fever with abodminal pain for approx 12 weeks, he ended up in hospital, he's been in hospital for 6 weeks with a lipase level of 3000 at it's highest, diagnosed and treated for pancreatitus. He's lost 12 kilo's and weighs 25.5 kilo's.
Avatar m tn and in Europe it is exstensively used as a pain control med called Temgesic in very small doses. For your daughters condition and her addiction a dose around 8-16mgs would be the most efficient for pain control and eliminating any and all withdrawals and cravings. Her other option if suboxone does not work well for her is to start with a methadone treatment.plan.
Avatar f tn At that time he gave me Opana 10mg long term and break through pain meds. I found the Opana to be a pretty good pain control, but it was also over 80.00 to pay for it, which is just too expensive for me to continue to do. When I was in the hospital there was a pain management doctor that came up and they put me on a morphine pump instead of the 6 mg of morphine they were giving me every 2-4 hours. That worked ok, until I started to throw it up.
Avatar n tn Because the vet gave us muscle relaxants and rimadahl to give for pain management, his pancreatitis flared up again. Now he is in the hospital on intravenous fluids and pain med injections. I just want to know anyone's thoughts on this? I really believe if he didn't have problems with his neck, the pancreatitis would have been controllable. But b/c of his "slipped disk" in his neck steroids is usually the treatment, but he can't have steroids b/c of the pancreatitis.
Avatar f tn would anything other then pancreatitis cause epigastric pain that radiates to the back?,,,that comes and goes. i get it,but i dont get the throwing up,or the hospital visits i hear about from pancreatitis. i have not lost weight, dont throw up,the pain feels like a cramp in my diahpram, goes into back,,ive had amalyes/lipase checked,2 ct scans with barrium and iodine contrast, and they dont see anything,,,no stones, enlargments, hernia, nothingwhat elce could this be? would spyincter of oddi do this?
Avatar f tn In the absence of these findings its unlikely that you have chronic pancreatitis. The other causes for the pain could be infections of the bowel and bladder, prolapsed intervertebral disc or inflammatory diseases of the colon. So, if your symptoms persist discuss these options with your doctor. Regards.
1825362 tn?1317883153 recently weaned myself off of methadone 20mg daily for pain. I still take 25mg to 30 mg oxycodone for pain control. 1.5 mg daily for anziety. Most days I am not out of the house.... others I do not get out of bed. I have tried antidepressants such as lexipro... Busprin.... effexor...zoloft and wellbutrin with no success. They made me feel sicker. I could not tolerate them. Felt like I had been poisoned. 7 years ago I was on paxil......
Avatar f tn I myself have been going through this pain. I just spent 6 days in the hospital with what they called panreatitis. I have the same pain it sounds like that ya'll have had. I had my gallbladder out in 1998 and have IBS and hyatial hernia and acid reflux. Now I am having to deal with this. I am also told that I am going to have to get the ERCP done because gallstones may be creating the problem. Also a big thing! CT Scans and MRI's do Not always show stones.
Avatar f tn Ask your doctor to do a blood test for amylase & lipase levels.
Avatar n tn The endoscopy found mild gastritis. All other test are normal. The pancreatic specialist did not mention pancreatitis at the time and only prescribed nexium and sulcrafate for the gastritis. I am 67, and never had a previous bout with pancreatitis. Moderate beer drinker. How should I be treated?
Avatar n tn A sphincterotomy was performed at this time (Sphincter of Oddi). At my 2 week surgical follow-up I had no pain whatsoever. Pain in the right upper quadrant developed within the next few weeks. I have now had the pain every day for over 4 months. It is not horrible, but it is annoying and distracting and diminishes my quality of life with my two little girls. The pain is sometimes burning, just under my rib cage. Sometimes it feels as if something is poking or stabbing me from deep inside.
Avatar f tn Anyone else out there suffering from Chronic (and acute) pancreatitis and/or sphincter of Oddi dysfunction? Would love to chat about how to manage these disorders.
Avatar n tn Can the medicine Zanaflex cause Pancreatitis? I have looked up information on this med and it states that 1 out of 20 patients could develop liver damage. I was diagnosed with Pancreatitis on 10/14/08. I had never had it in my life. I am afraid this medicine has caused it. I have never ever picked up any type of drink other than diet pepsi and jucie. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am so scared and hurting.
