Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis medications treatment

pancreatitis

Avatar n tn What are they actually treating and what symptoms do you have other than high liver enzymes. Do you have Lupus or Autoimmune Pancreatitis/Hepatitis where the immune system is going haywire?
Avatar n tn I am sorry to hear about your ongoing pancreatitis. I recently was searching the internet for IVIg treatment because my neuro said he wanted to try it on me. While it is very expensive, it is a treatment for MS and may be an option for you. Here is a link, in case you want to know more: http://www.msadvances.com/faq.php3 Hope this helps...
Avatar n tn The endoscopy found mild gastritis. All other test are normal. The pancreatic specialist did not mention pancreatitis at the time and only prescribed nexium and sulcrafate for the gastritis. I am 67, and never had a previous bout with pancreatitis. Moderate beer drinker. How should I be treated?
559187 tn?1330782856 Has anyone here ever had pancreatitis? If so, did you have it after getting your MS diagnosis? I am wondering how much of an impact, if any, did the this affect your MS symptoms? I can't possibly believe that this could trigger yet another MS relapse as I feel I paid my dues with the relapse hat just preceeded the pancreatits, but is it possible? Thanks.
Avatar n tn I had to put my 11 year old Llhasa apso to sleep yesterday because he was diagnosed with pancreatitis and was in so much pain that they could not guarantee that he would survive even with treatment. It came on suddenly...he was fine Saturday but began throwing up in the middle of the night and continued...he couldn't even hold down water and was very weak. I took him into the veterinary hospital on Sunday and he was too weak to come home.
Avatar n tn The other causes could be jaundice if there is yellowish discoloration of skin, food poisoning if the symptoms occurred shortly after taking food, peptic ulcer disease and sometimes cholecystitis and pancreatitis. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. In the meantime take oral fluids. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Methotrexate, as you say, is licensed by the FDA for the treatment of some diseases, as it is here in England by NICE, our governing body of medications and treatment. This does not stop consultants prescribing it "off licence" for Crohn's. It is a cytotoxic chemo drug and needs constant vigilance with monthly blood tests. I believe when I first started it I had weekly blood tests for 3 months, then fortnightly, and now only monthly.
Avatar f tn t start treatment with a medication that can cause pancreatitis while you have pancreatitis. I bet any doctor would tell you that. Epclusa includes sofosbuvir which lists "pancreatitis" as a possible side effect. Here's a study that says.... "There were 7 grade 3 events including anemia, neutropenia, nausea, hypophosphatemia, and cholelithiasis or pancreatitis." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar n tn I am undergoing treatment for pancreatitis, I am 29 yrs old and not an alcoholic. What precautions I should take while undergoing treatment ? what are the chances of recovering from this disease?
229538 tn?1300377767 Hi all ! Can someone please tell me about pancreatitis and the mortality rate when your cat gets it ? My Kaci cat whom I just love so much is old (about 161/2 ) and I have been taking her to the Vet to get hydrated about every 4 days . She is not really eating well and I am really worried . Anything more that I can do for her ? Any suggestions would be appreciated so much ! Thank you ..
1006041 tn?1250396768 This has been determined at two numerous hospital stays, infact, doctors didnt believe the previous diagnosis of an allergic reaction and gave me the meds to see for themselves. I have chronic pancreatitis and have gotten sick several times from high lipid count due to my cholesterol. I have a genetic dispositon for pancreatitis so I have had it numerous times from different causes.

Avatar f tn Since my surgery, I have hospitalized 3 times with pancreatitis. I now have a GJ (feeding tube) and I am NPO except for ice chips and sugar free gum. My doctor thinks I would benefit from having the rest of my pancreas removed. Has anyone had issues like this? I am on Creon and pain medications daily.
Avatar m tn If a dog needs to be on Prednisone for 6 months, is there anything one can do to help prevent the bad side effects like erosion in the stomach and GI, Pancreatitis, muscle loss, etc ?
Avatar n tn I am 67 yrs old and take a variety of medications. Many of my conditions are related to post-Graves Disease. Ten years ago I had my gallbladder out after an attack of acute pancreatitis. I subsequently developed chronic pancreatitis and was diagnosed with Sphincter of Oddi. Rather than have the invasive surgery I went on a strict, fresh chicken soup diet with supplements ordered by an Ayruvedic doctor. Within 2 years I was completely recovered and could eat anything.
Avatar f tn you are correct, cat food, being richer, has set off his pancreatitis. As you know acute pancreatitis can be a fatal event. It can also be transient. no one knows how your dog will do. Medications will decrease the severity of this event and sounds like if you get him over this you have managed his diet very well. I'd like to see his pancreatic work up and treat him to get him over this quickly and so that it does not progress further.
Avatar n tn MY DAUGHTER IS HAVING RECURRENT STROKES OF ACUTE PANCREATITIS. NOW SHE IS 12 YEARS OLD AND HAVING THE PROBLEM FOR LAST 2 YRS. THE ATTACKS HAVE LESSEND A BIT THIS YEAR IN TERMS OF RECURRANCES. SHE HAS BEEN ADVISED SONOGRAPHY REPEATEDLY BUT GENERALLY EVERY TIME ONLY A BULGE IN THE TAIL OF PANCREAS IS FOUND. ERCP HAS BEEN DONE AND THE DUCTS ARE NOT DILATED. SO SCHRINTOMY WAS NOT POSSIBLE. PLEASE SUGGEST TREATMENT AND WHETHER AT ALL THIS IS CURABLE.
750120 tn?1252455030 One is to discontinue treatment and the other is to delay treatment until the pancreatitis has cleared up then start again slowly. Blood work they took today will determine the course of action they choose. The pancreatitis is extremely painful but morphine is extremely effective (smiling).
Avatar n tn I have chronic pancreatitis and occipital neuralgia. My old Dr gave me a standing script for vicoprofen to take when I get a pancreatic attack(along with my everyday maintenance meds). He no longer takes my ins. and I'm having trouble finding a Dr who even understands pancreatitis will give me my script. How can I prove I"m not an addict looking for a fix?? My conditions are very well documented....and every Dr agrees that there isnt anything else that can be done.
Avatar m tn I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. It's unlikely that pancreatitis results in acute liver failure/necrosis (ALN)- while pancreatitis can result in ELEVATED liver function tests (LFTs), it shouldn't cause failure. Cause for ALN include blue-green algae exposure (in stagnant ponds), sago palm ingestion, xylitol sugar-free gum, a few medications, etc. Sometimes end-stage liver disease (cirrhosis) can also cause acute liver failure also.
Avatar f tn hi thnx 4 ur input...im already diagnosed h. pylori & it caused my gastritis since 2011....but i been treated... now im suspicious about this new back pain...cuz it happens when my GI issues go crazy.... when do GI problems give back pain?. i've never heard of this..
1807187 tn?1316861276 If the doc prescribed Creon, it's possible the diagnosis could be pancreatitis, but you should ask your doctor for an exact diagnosis and also ask what diet you should be following for the condition you have. In general, most docs tell patients who have acute pancreatitis to follow a liquid diet for a period of time then slowly transition to a soft diet that is very low in fat. That can be followed up by changing back to a 'regular' low fat diet.
1168110 tn?1272682317 From the multiple problems that you describe, it sounds like you have had a problem with one or more chronic infections that caused thyroiditis, pancreatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma and more (my wife actually had this complex multi-symptom condition). In many cases chronic infections can be attributed to the FMS, thyroiditis, pancreatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.
Avatar f tn How long can someone live (approx) with Chronic Pancreatitis when they are a heavy drinker? I have a family member that was Diagnosed with this and continues to drink heavy! He has had many attacks! This last time they wanted to place him in ICU but he checked him self out against Medical advise! If he continues to drink like this what will happen to him? Worried!!!
6472661 tn?1381769132 It is managed with fluids, antibiotics, anti-emetic (anti nausea/vomiting medications) and pain medications. I did not personally examine your dog, but it sounds very much like pancreatitis. It may take a while for her to overcome this and she can have relapses in the future. I don't think there is anything wrong with getting a second vet's opinion if you are concerned, but it is not a condition that is gone in a matter of 2-3 days. Good luck!
