Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis in lupus

pancreatitis

Avatar f tn Over the last 17 years I have been - (and all are confirmed except the pancreatitis) with all of the chronic and incurable diseases listed in the title. I also have an extremely bad (painful) back and was even confined to a wheel chair for a few weeks until I received successful epidural blocks. Now, I am being treated for Pancreatitis which I first heard of 3 weeks ago when I finally went to the GI doc (again). BTW - I am a GI docs dream constant cash flow.
Avatar n tn I have been to a Rheumatologist (wasnt that impressed with him) he checked ccp Igg, is this the samething?I dont think he was looking for Autoimmune pancreatitis , I think he was looking for lupus or or something. What was your treatment?. Was your ANA elevated to? Mine has been normal some also.
1952776 tn?1325606457 ASMA - Anti-Smooth Muscle Antibody can be seen in infectious mononucleosis & other viral infections, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), breast & ovarian carcinoma, and melanoma. It can also be seen in about 50% of cases of primary biliary cirrhosis, alcoholic related cirrhosis, and cases of biliary duct obstruction. At a starting dilution of 1:20, there are many false positives for ASMA at this low titre level. ASMA is found positivity in 1.
422425 tn?1307992990 t know that Sjogrens can cause the autoimmune pancreatitis that I have been struggling with. Something new to think about. AIP is very rare in the US. I have had Lupus for years. Any way have a wonderful Christmas!
Avatar n tn What are they actually treating and what symptoms do you have other than high liver enzymes. Do you have Lupus or Autoimmune Pancreatitis/Hepatitis where the immune system is going haywire?
Avatar f tn Treatment for acute pancreatitis People with acute pancreatitis are treated with IV fluids and pain medications in the hospital. In up to 25% of patients, the pancreatitis can be severe and patients may need to be admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU). In the ICU, the patient is closely watched because pancreatitis can damage the heart, lungs, or kidneys. Some cases of severe pancreatitis can result in death of pancreatic tissue.
1807187 tn?1316861276 s possible the diagnosis could be pancreatitis, but you should ask your doctor for an exact diagnosis and also ask what diet you should be following for the condition you have. In general, most docs tell patients who have acute pancreatitis to follow a liquid diet for a period of time then slowly transition to a soft diet that is very low in fat. That can be followed up by changing back to a 'regular' low fat diet.
Avatar f tn The first time I experienced it, I was turning over in bed and something caught inside me like the muscle in my abdomen was ripping loose. When I released the strain of turning over the pain went away. However, I was left with this constant little pain in the area that feels like a bee stinging me sometimes and sometimes just a little ache like someone penching me inside. I've had CT scan, MRI, endoscopy, colonoscopy, and blood work and everything is supposedly normal.
997730 tn?1254278376 Discoid Lupus does not always develop into Systemic Lupus. In fact, most people with Discoid Lupus do not develop Systemic Lupus. However, the doctors do need to keep checking to be sure that it does not develop into Systemic Lupus. Most initial treatment of Discoid Lupus calls for Hydroxychlorquine (oral) and topical steroids. Other drugs can be added if needed. Maybe the Rheumatologist has you on oral Prednisone to calm down the lesions?
Avatar m tn ploryi blood test/liver/pancrease panel and possibly a endoscope to find out what is going on in your stomach. A gi specialist would probably be best. If this is truly pancreatitis you would need to stop drinking to let the pancrease heal before permament damage is done...(normally) BUT i'm not a doctor.. a visit with a gi specialist would be the way to go..
Avatar f tn my IgA level came back at 25 (limit is from 0-20). Could this indicate lupus or is my level too low? Also, can anyone think of any other autoimmune disorder that would cause this slight elevation? If anyone can please help me understand this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Because the vet gave us muscle relaxants and rimadahl to give for pain management, his pancreatitis flared up again. Now he is in the hospital on intravenous fluids and pain med injections. I just want to know anyone's thoughts on this? I really believe if he didn't have problems with his neck, the pancreatitis would have been controllable. But b/c of his "slipped disk" in his neck steroids is usually the treatment, but he can't have steroids b/c of the pancreatitis.
18663 tn?1198171815 He is now in a Lupus Research Study from Lupus Foundation in OK. I read somewhere that the DoD is having research done. I hope this group my hubby is in is part of this DoD one. My suggestion, is look for a research group from whatever your illness is.
Avatar m tn It is also true that drugs that follow a common pathway for metabolism may be affected simultaneously in enzymatic defects of the liver, resulting in precipitation of side effects. Management in autoimmune conditions that affect multiple systems is often aimed at symptomatic management and down-regulation of the immune system.
422425 tn?1307992990 During a CT scan last summer my DR found that I have several masses in both kidneys. After a biopsy I was diagnosed with interstitial nephritis. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this? Does it ever go away? I have large amounts of blood and protein in my urine and my kidney functions are decreased and have been for about 4 years already. I am scheduled with a kidney dr in a few weeks. Because it has been a year I am getting a little concerned.
Avatar f tn Ok since i was 13 i have constantly been cold i shiver, shake violently, right down to the bone. even in summer when its hot from the neck down im cold, my partner takes the mick, and it gets me down, i dont take any meds un less i have migraine, i even have the white spots all over my hands they are that cold, looked like raynards got tested and clear. can anyone help me ive had blood test, water, sugar, even had test for anemia and a few others all clear.
Avatar m tn Hi Kelley. I'm so sorry to hear about your little boxer. Pancreatitis is a terrible disease for dogs (and people) to endure. If your vet hasn't yet performed an ultrasound, that will be the next step. They'll need to check to see how swollen the pancreas is, if there is something like a tumor or pseudo-cyst, or even a birth defect causing the trouble. It's even possible there is something blocking the pancreatitic or common bile duct at the root of the problem.
936335 tn?1246412231 Your symptoms could be SO many things including microscopic sludge/stones in the common bile duct, gallbladder problems, Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction, Small Bowel Bacterial Overgrowth, acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, autoimmune pancreatitis, mininal change chronic pancreatitis, etc., etc., etc. Pancreatic and ductal pain is among the most horrendous pain there is. If you cannot manage your pain, talk to your primary care physician and ask for some medication!
1406332 tn?1315962760 I did a little research myself on your results. My sister and Mom are ANA positive --- My sister is being monitored by the Rheuma specialist still. (She has a high level of inflammation in her system.) They think she may have RA. My Mom is ANA positive (has many of the Lupus titers but still missing, I think, two titers which make her negative for Lupus.) They said she has an autoimmune disease but they don't know what it is. It doesn't appear to be lupus...maybe connective tissue.
1481080 tn?1287590520 m reading say they place the stent at the same time as the Sphincterotomy, for the very reason of trying to avoid pancreatitis. I did end up in the hosp. overnight because of severe pain. But aside from feeling like a horse kicked me in the belly, I'm ok and eating a little. Won't the pancreatic duct scar over if it's not stented when he does the procedure? Also curious, has anyone had a jumping/flipping/painful/?? feeling in the area of the stent shortly after the procedure?
Avatar f tn However, severe upper abdominal pain (especially on pressing) with chills and fever can be due to viral hepatitis, malaria or due to pancreatitis. In all these cases the pain gets referred to back due to involvement of either liver or pancreas. These need to be ruled out by liver function tests, pancreatic enzymes, ultrasound, test for malarial parasite. If the infection is viral in origin, it can cause severe headache not responding to medication.
Avatar m tn If there is pain after gall bladder surgery, then, liver infection, stone in pancreatic duct, pancreatitis, duodenal ulcer and acidity are a few causes that need to be ruled out. If all these causes are ruled out, then it could be due to adhesions and this can only be diagnosed by laparotomy. Keep a food diary. See what food items cause the least symptoms and eat those for rest of your pregnancy. Raise head end of bed after asking your doctor. Take antacid gels if it is OK with your doctor.
504535 tn?1210527032 Other conditions that can cause yellow stools include hepatitis, pancreatitis or liver cirrhosis. It does not indicate cancer like you rightly mentioned.
Avatar n tn The second attempt he was still unable to do the necessary measurements, but he put a stent in my pancreatic duct (not sure why). I Have had chronic bouts of pancreatitis and have been pretty much in constant pain which escalates to what I call "mind-bending" pain 3 to 4 times a day. I DRAW UP INTO A FETAL POSITION AND CRY AND ROCK BACK AND FORTH, I CAN NO LONGER LIVE WITH THIS SUFFERING, I DESPERATELY NEED HELP NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1878464 tn?1320559437 To post an update, I was just diagnosed with non-systemic lupus. The ICD9 code given is 695.4 which is discoid lupus. Looking at pictures from http://dermnetnz.org/immune/cutaneous-lupus.html it appears that lupus profundus is more accurate. I have started another thread in regards to the question of the type, but I wanted to conclude this thread with the diagnosis.
Avatar n tn I had to put my 11 year old Llhasa apso to sleep yesterday because he was diagnosed with pancreatitis and was in so much pain that they could not guarantee that he would survive even with treatment. It came on suddenly...he was fine Saturday but began throwing up in the middle of the night and continued...he couldn't even hold down water and was very weak. I took him into the veterinary hospital on Sunday and he was too weak to come home.
