Pancreatitis in labs

Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis in labs

pancreatitis

Avatar f tn Treatment for acute pancreatitis People with acute pancreatitis are treated with IV fluids and pain medications in the hospital. In up to 25% of patients, the pancreatitis can be severe and patients may need to be admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU). In the ICU, the patient is closely watched because pancreatitis can damage the heart, lungs, or kidneys. Some cases of severe pancreatitis can result in death of pancreatic tissue.
Avatar m tn If all your labs (liver and pancreatic enzymes) are nornal, it would be very unusual for this to be pancreatitis. Typically the only time pancreatitis shows up and the enzymes levels show 'normal' levels is when someone progresses from acute to chronic pancreatitis. So if this hasn't been a condition that's happened several times in a couple of years, the chances of it being pancreatitis is low. All of the PPIs do not act the same nor do they have the same side-effects.
Avatar f tn They also tested my CA 19 (which had been tested prior, once a yr before and the 2nd time one month prior in routine labs) as my Dad passed away of Pancreatic Cancer the same year at age 73. My CA went from 43 the first time I was tested a yr prior to the abdominal pain, 37 the month prior to the abdominal pain to 66 when it turned out my lipase was elevaed. My lipase went down but remained slightly elevated for at least 2 wks (it has not been checked since), my CA 19 had gone down 10 points.
Avatar f tn hi thnx 4 ur input...im already diagnosed h. pylori & it caused my gastritis since 2011....but i been treated... now im suspicious about this new back pain...cuz it happens when my GI issues go crazy.... when do GI problems give back pain?. i've never heard of this..
Avatar m tn Pancreatitis can often be diagnosed clinically based on symptoms and/or labs (e.g., lipase, and to a lesser extent amylase). CT can confirm this, showing fat stranding around the pancreas, but the main role of CT is to evaluate complications of acute pancreatitis (e.g., necrosis, collections, etc.) and/or sequela of chronic pancreatitis (e.g., calcifications).
Avatar f tn all this time we have waited and labs were normal now they are starting to show signs and your mothers history you need to get this addressed because pancreatitis especially chronic pancreatitis is hereditary as well hope it helps you out,,,,,,,
Avatar m tn Measuring pancreatic amylase, or P-amylase, may be useful in determining if an increase in a total amylase level is due to acute pancreatitis. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What does the test result mean? In acute pancreatitis, amylase in the blood often increases to 4 to 6 times higher than the highest reference value, sometimes called upper limit of normal.
Avatar f tn After the first ERCP the pain stayed gone for 2 months and then returned. After 2nd ERCP, I ended up in the hospital with pain and fever. My CT scan was normal and so were my A&L levels. However, I have been reading on pancreatitis and my symptoms seem to match, especially the pain in the epigastric region that radiates to my back. I have no other answers and my doctor is out of ideas. Could I have pancreatitis even though my CT scan and A&L levels were normal??
Avatar f tn He had a cholecystectomy about 7 years ago so not a gallbladder problem, he has had pancreatitis in the past (2x), last time he was in so much pain he was admitted to the hospital and kept NPO for 4 days. He has never been a heavy drinker and he doesn't have a gall bladder so I'm not sure what could cause the pancreatitis. He has cut out all alcohol and fatty and sugary foods, but still no luck in pain relief.
Avatar n tn Hello, My Sister In Law has been in hospital for past 3 weeks(changed Hospital once), the diagnosis is pancreatitis but the lab work does not agree with this. Her Amylase is low 40's, Her Lipase is 20's. The rest of her Chems., and Heme results are normal. She just started having increased Glucose the past 5 days. She had Gastric Bypass Surgery in 2001 and had many problems after including having her Gall Bladder removed.
Avatar n tn i havent drank for over 10 months since i became ill, yea it seems like i have chronic pancreatitis, not sure, i have had these pains before in the past few years 1 to 2 weeks at a time maybe 4 times ll together but mainly after taking certain antibiotics, unfortunatley i didnt really notice what they were, did see drs they simply were treating me with gastrititis. i may still need to be placed on iv fluids and see if inflamation goes? or is that out the question?
Avatar m tn I have had regular blood test. This past year my labs are showing Thyroglobulin AB present, in the first of the year they were low .5 now they are 24.6. I was always told that since I do not have a Thyroid I should not produce any if not little. My Endo is saying his labs are showing that there are none present and my Naval labs for the last year are showing it present. My TSH level is 0.01 and is low. Since then I have developed a huge mass on the left side of my neck and in my arm pit.
Avatar n tn Daily drinking of half a bottle of fireball yielded the labs. All blood tests were in normal range. That was 6 months ago and I carried on drinking everyday.
Avatar m tn Back in August and September, I was having persistent pain and discomfort in my right abdomen and my right lower/mid back and love handle area right below the rig cage. It seemed to move between those areas through the day and lasted for weeks. I went to the doctor and my blood tests were normal as well as an abdominal ultrasound. It eventually stopped for a few months but now has been back for the last three months and pretty much every day now.
Avatar f tn Comprehensive diagnostics including endoscopies, colonoscopies, biopsies and labs (blood and stool) yield no reason, other than limited gut motility and chronic constipation. Rxs, dietary and biomedical interventions ineffective. NG tube cleanse outs are effective but last only 2 days before bloating returns. Carries diagnosis of IBS, GERD, Non-Allergic Rhinitis. Has history of pancreatitis. Is on special diet. Bloating unresolved for 6 months. Welcome any ideas. Thank you.
Avatar f tn and i did have pancreatitis last year and spent three days in the hospital. But the pain has only gotten worse. I hope they find out on the 30th so i can get some relief.
1807187 tn?1316861276 s possible the diagnosis could be pancreatitis, but you should ask your doctor for an exact diagnosis and also ask what diet you should be following for the condition you have. In general, most docs tell patients who have acute pancreatitis to follow a liquid diet for a period of time then slowly transition to a soft diet that is very low in fat. That can be followed up by changing back to a 'regular' low fat diet.
Avatar m tn ploryi blood test/liver/pancrease panel and possibly a endoscope to find out what is going on in your stomach. A gi specialist would probably be best. If this is truly pancreatitis you would need to stop drinking to let the pancrease heal before permament damage is done...(normally) BUT i'm not a doctor.. a visit with a gi specialist would be the way to go..
Avatar f tn He is a very sensitive, nervous cat. His labs indicate that he does not have pancreatitis, and overall his lab work looks good. He had a full senior work up, as well as urinanalysis and the test for the pancreatitis (negative). He has been dehydrated, not eating well, nauseated and vomiting. Is the next step to do an ultrasound?
Avatar n tn Because the vet gave us muscle relaxants and rimadahl to give for pain management, his pancreatitis flared up again. Now he is in the hospital on intravenous fluids and pain med injections. I just want to know anyone's thoughts on this? I really believe if he didn't have problems with his neck, the pancreatitis would have been controllable. But b/c of his "slipped disk" in his neck steroids is usually the treatment, but he can't have steroids b/c of the pancreatitis.
Avatar m tn Hi Kelley. I'm so sorry to hear about your little boxer. Pancreatitis is a terrible disease for dogs (and people) to endure. If your vet hasn't yet performed an ultrasound, that will be the next step. They'll need to check to see how swollen the pancreas is, if there is something like a tumor or pseudo-cyst, or even a birth defect causing the trouble. It's even possible there is something blocking the pancreatitic or common bile duct at the root of the problem.
936335 tn?1246412231 Your symptoms could be SO many things including microscopic sludge/stones in the common bile duct, gallbladder problems, Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction, Small Bowel Bacterial Overgrowth, acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, autoimmune pancreatitis, mininal change chronic pancreatitis, etc., etc., etc. Pancreatic and ductal pain is among the most horrendous pain there is. If you cannot manage your pain, talk to your primary care physician and ask for some medication!
Avatar f tn This summer I had a US for other lower stomach issues and also had them look at my pancreas while I was there. In Sept my dr drew a CA 19 (I was having other labs for other things-chose to do it due to my dad) and it was slightly elevated at 43. I redid my CA 19 in Feb and it was back down to 37. Then shortly after the pains started, and here I am now. I will be having a EUS done, hopefully soon. Until there, I will still worry and am looking for as much feedback as possible.
