Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis causes diarrhea

pancreatitis

Avatar n tn Did the vet perform a CPLI test to see if your dog had pancreatitis? The causes of vomiting and diarrhea can be many things, such ingestion of a foreign body, ingestion of something toxic, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, parasites, organic causes and more.
Avatar f tn There can be other causes of diarrhea, like diverticulitis, ischemic colitis food poisoning, etc. Two weeks is a long time to have diarrhea. She has to DRINK so much water or even better a sport drink like Gatorade (contains sodium and potassium), that she will excrete at least 200 ml of urine every morning. But she probably lost some electrolytes, which may be dangerous. Take her to the doctor and she will have appropriate stool and blood tests, a lot can be seen from this two only.
Cat You may also want to contact your GI doctor because there could be other causes for the diarrhea--such as infections, etc. that may need to be ruled out. DONT stop your medications without speaking to your doctor first! Ideally the two doctors can confer as well. Good luck!
Avatar f tn m having lots of pain, vomiting, nausea and diarrhea but lately my lipase and amylase levels have been low. The doctor said my pancreas is sluggish and work like it should and this is why my blood levels are normal. Can anyone tell me if exocrine pancreatic insufficiency affects lipase and amylase levels during a pancreatitis flare up? Also has anyone ever had normal blood levels with pancreatitis?
Avatar f tn FIP is a possibility but I would be more interested in looking at causes of a low serum protein. Low protein causes a buildup of fluid in the abdomen and is often associated with a condition called exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Protein could be lost via the intestine (protein losing enteropathy) or in the urine (protein losing nephropathy).
Avatar f tn Heart failure will cause him to have shortage of breath, kidney failure will cause him to vomit and have diarrhea, and pancreatitis will causes him to be in pain. I really don't know which is the right choice. Should I let him continue living this way till his time is up or should I put him to sleep? Can anyone please advise me?
Avatar f tn In your case, your symptoms could be due to side effects of Questran (which causes cholestasis, pancreatitis, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea etc). Generally GGT levels start coming down within 24 hours of stopping the drug. ALP levels may take longer. However, I’ll explain all possibilities to you so that you can discuss this with your treating doctor.
Avatar f tn I am a 38-year-old female. About 4 years ago I had severe upper abdominal pain and went to the ER. The docs suspected gallbladder problems, but after ultrasound, found no stones and sent me home to die as far as I'm concerned. This was severe (I've had two children and childbirth has nothing on that pain) middle, upper adbominal pain that came in waves, similar to contractions. The next day I was fine and disregarded it as some crazy gastritis or something.
Avatar f tn Hi, is there any diarrhea associated with the spasms? then it could be due to bowel infections. Your persisting symptoms of pain, nausea and vomiting could indicate a viral gastroenteritis. The other causes could be jaundice if there is yellowish discoloration of skin, food poisoning if the symptoms occurred shortly after taking food, peptic ulcer disease and sometimes cholecystitis and pancreatitis. Please consult your primary care physician for further evaluation.
Avatar n tn I'm 17 years old and in good health. I'm not overweight, I don't smoke, and I don't drink or do drugs. I try to eat the best I can but I have a horrible sweet tooth. Well anyway, most days, my stomach will hurt at some point during the day. I know part of the problem is stress, but I'm trying to keep that under control. My stomach hurts when I'm hungry. And it hurts after I eat. I always feel bloated after I eat.
Avatar f tn During a recent trip to Mexico, I came down with 'travelers diarrhea' - fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomitting, dehydration. Upon arriving back in the states, I was readmitted to the hospital due to elevated amylase and lipase. I didn't have the severe pancreatitis pain until later that night and then only one other bout two nights later. A CT scan, ERCP, and internal ultrasound were all normal and I was discharged after 5 days.
Avatar n tn However other causes, such as pancreatitis, broken ribs, collapsed lungs and aortic aneurysms, are very serious and require immediate attention. It is always best to consult a medical provider to get an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan, especially if the pain is severe or persistent. You need to choose between get medical help now or risk a potential serious condition.
Avatar n tn I would like to know what causes these rotten egg burps followed by some very nasty vomiting and diarrhea. I always happen durning the night and lasts on 6 hrs or so. I get this once every 2 months or so.
Avatar n tn It sounds like to me also that it might have been pancreatitis. It is so difficult when we lose a member of our family. Pancreatitis unfortunately can become severe basically overnight, and that might be what happened in your guys case. Again I am very sorry for your loss. God Bless Brenda Hello heartfluttersflyawayplz, A dog can get pancreatitis from infections, obesity, trauma, medications-sulfa drugs, and chemotherapy, following surgery, and metabolic disorders.
Avatar n tn what causes high lipase level, should i be worried? This discussion is related to Elevated lipase level.
Avatar n tn Pancreatitis is one of the more difficult diseases to treat. It is also extremely painful. If she isn't able to hold down water, I honestly think she needs to go back in hospital. The way pancreatitis is treated is by allowing that organ to rest through literal starvation. Same treatment holds for human patients too. The dog is given IV hydration and nutrition, nausea and pain control, and then you wait it out. Is she eating anything at all?
Avatar f tn I am only 19 years old. I had my gall bladder taken out at 18. And had pancreatitis multiple times only to find out the two ducts in my pancreas aren't connectes. I had an ercp to enlarge my bile dict because my food wasn't digesting and had gotten pancreatitis after that as well. I can't remember the last time I have had a normal bowel movement. I have gone to the restroom 6 times this morning in three hours with loose stool.
Avatar m tn Hi, your persisting symptoms of diarrhea and abdominal pain could indicate a viral gastroenteritis. The other causes could be jaundice if there is yellowish discoloration of skin, food poisoning if the symptoms occurred shortly after taking food, peptic ulcer disease and sometimes cholecystitis and pancreatitis. Please consult your primary care physician for further evaluation. In the meantime take oral fluids and OTC acetaminophen for the pain. Regards.
Avatar f tn I recently had an ultrasound that said I had a borderline enlarged pancreatic duct (4.2 mm). I do not have pancreatitis. I am wondering about causes, if there are any besides cancer or pancreatitis. That is all I have found on this subject. Am scared.
Avatar f tn In pancreatitis both lipase and amylase are usually elevated. Other tests (CT, MRI) are needed to confirm pancreatitis. But elevated lipase doesn't mean you have pancreatitis. Or, lipase level doesn't necessary correlate with severity of inflammation. ERCP was probably suggested because a small stone, either from gallbladder or pancreas can block pancrteatic duct - what results in pancreatitis. There's another, noninvasive investigation - MRCP, which could be done instead of ERCP.
