pancreatitis

Avatar f tn I am a 41 year old woman who has been recently diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis ( trauma to pancreas). I am otherwise healthy and would like to know what the risks are for pregnant women with my condition. I not yet pregnant but I am considering it. Please help.
Avatar f tn I am scheduled for an ERCP. I am not nor have been a drinker and I have had no trauma to my abdomen (except the hernia surgery. I don't feel as if I fully recovered from the hernia surgery. Could a hernia surgery or the scar tissue from that lead to pancretitis or dammage to my pancrease?
1382010 tn?1279643604 My ALT is 77 and AST is 99. I have pain in my right side through to the back and my stomache is all swollen up. Going for more tests Thursday.
Avatar f tn 1. Steroids, mumps, Epstein Barr Virus and Cytomegalovirus, Lupus and other immune diseases, very high calcium, lipids and triglycerides, drugs: sulfa drugs, steroids, NSAID use, diuretics, duodenal ulcer, diabetic drugs especially Byetta. The drugs could be a problem for both the pancrease and liver too. If you have been taking Byetta for diabetis it is very important to get treatment for that right away. I would say there is cause for concern but you are getting it checked out.
Avatar f tn The most common causes of pancreatitis are gallstones and heavy alcohol use. Other less common causes include medications, metabolic disorders (hypertriglyceridemia and/or hypercalcemia), infection, trauma, surgery/procedures (ERCP), autoimmune disorders, and anatomic variants (pancreas divisum). Sometimes, a cause for pancreatitis is never found.
Avatar f tn MRI/MRCP abdomen with and without contrast is a reasonable test to further characterize pancreatic cysts/cystic lesions. Pancreatic cystic lesions can represent pseudocysts (if history of pancreatitis or trauma), sidebranch IPMN (benign), serous cystic neoplasm (benign), or mucinous cystic neoplasms (not benign). It is helpful to include MRCP sequences for better evaluation of biliary and pancreatic ducts.
Avatar n tn (That is, the pancreas is close to the gallbladder and can itself cause complications of pancreatitis, but there are many causes of pancreatitis). http://emedicine.medscape.
Avatar n tn , acute MI, unstable angina, thoracic aortic dissection, tension pneumothorax, esophageal rupture, pulmonary embolism) are immediately life threatening. Some (e.g., angina pectoris, pericarditis, myocarditis, pneumothorax, pneumonia, pancreatitis, various thoracic malignancies) are potentially life threatening.
Avatar f tn I was told I had pancreatitis, also they found a big bruise on my liver. When I asked what could have caused it, being I had no trauma to that area. I was told, I had back luck. Ever since they released me from the hospital I have pain along the right side, it runs to my back. I can no longer sleep on my stomach nor on my right side. I have an appt with a gastroenterologist this week. I am very affraid, Should I be???? .
Avatar n tn Trouble was I had a really bad Nicorette habit. Low and behold I have chronic pancreatitis and if I chew the gum--the pancreatic pain skyrockets. I would say "YES" Nicorette either causes, triggers, or aggrevates pancreatitis.
Avatar m tn He was in hospital for a couple of weeks and got better gradually. Doctors established that he had acute pancreatitis and secondary diabetes. The cyst was drained. As my husband has had pain for years and we found out that pancreatic cysts coupled with secondary diabetes (doctors established that he has had secondary diabetes for years without knowing) are symptoms of chronic pancreatitis, we thought he had, had chronic pancreatitis for years.
Avatar m tn t know what impact having lost a kidney will have, but the risks of heavy alcohol consumption including increased risk of cancer, pancreatitis (which can be fatal), cirrhosis, heart attack, and stroke, to name some. No one can tell you IF any of those things will ever happen to you, or when they would if they do. Some people never experience these problems, and others do after only a few years of heavy drinking.
Avatar f tn I have been having abdominal pain on my right side that radiates into my back for a couple of months now, and after being fobbed off with many painkillers I am finally going for an endiscopy. Doc says It might be an ulcer. Not convinced as I have pain in my lower back and stomach now and my back is tender to touch. Any ideas as to what it might be, Im getting very worried.
Avatar f tn Hi there, This evening I was sitting down watching a movie after a relaxing day when suddenly I got this very sharp pain at the very tip of my pinky. I've had no trauma to it and I have long natural fingernails so really the very tip of my finger is not that accessible to even a random bang. After about an hour of the sharp pain it began throbbing relentlessly, my heart now lives in my pinky finger I am convinced.
Avatar f tn im now being directed to take a gastric emptying study which i already have had done a year ago and those results were normal..my question is...is here a link between pancreatitis and bile reflux? and if so, would it not be indicative of an obstruction (due to the minor dilation) of my pancreatic duct....is there any remedies or speculation around these test results?
Avatar n tn I had hyperparathyroidism and it was my understanding that was separate from my thyroid issue. I'm not sure that is clinically correct though. Hope you get more answers.
Avatar m tn They are really still not positive what, exactly, causes pancreatitis but dogs who are overweight and dogs who have a lot of human table food in their diets are the most prone because of the high fat content in these foods. Our food is not geared toward the way a dog's digestive system works, so it can be the most expensive, well cooked meal in the world, it's still not OK for a dog to eat in any quantity or for any length of time.
Avatar m tn Now its been basically non-stop, confirmed by mri, that it is chronic pancreatitis, and fatty liver. Im being sent to a pain specialist for the pain, and hoping he can offer relief, because Ive been recieving very little help from my doctor with that. Im 5'5", used to be about 138lbs, and now am 162, with gain of 10lbs a month on a low fat diet, no meat, no bread, soft food. I dont understand except unless wieght gain is from thyroid going wrong, im hypothyroid.
Avatar n tn My 5 year old has had pancreatitis twice in 4 1/2 months. Once in Nov 2009 and again in April 2010. No cause was found - tested negative for gall bladder issues, negative for cystic fibrosis, cholesterol was normal, no trauma to belly, no family history, no pancreatitic cysts. She did receive a flu shot one month before the first attack, and then received her MMR and Chickenpox vaccine one month before the second attack. Possible connection, we don't know?
Avatar n tn It is similar to MedHelp except everyone in the webgroup has some familiarity with Acute Pancreatitis, Chronic Pancreatitis, Autoimmune Pancreatitis, Minimal Change Chronic Pancreatitis, Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction and/or other Undiagnosed Digestive Illnesses. I belong to two groups, Michele's (Sphincterofoddi_pancreatitis) and Maddi's (Pancreatitis_sphincterofoddi) but there are others. To find them, go to Yahoo! On the left-hand-side of the page, click the link for Groups.

Avatar n tn t really given much say in the matter, as the pancreatitis was a nasty attack and I was strongly advised to get my gallbladder out asap after it. It was a straightforward procedure, with no after effects. I can't really say I felt better, because apart from the pancreatitis incident, I never had any problems beforehand! I do sometimes suffer with the "dumping syndrome" which, whilst unpleasant, doesn't worry me too much as I believe it's normal.
Avatar f tn t seem to care about the Pneumobilia and one Dr seemed to think its normal and I might have it forever, but I am concerned especially about possible infection coming from the small bowel into the Biliary hepatic vessels and also can this air be causing the ongoing Pancreatitis?
Avatar n tn In about 15% of cases of acute pancreatitis and 40% of cases of chronic pancreatitis, the cause is never known." Source: http://www.emedicinehealth.com/pancreatitis/page2_em.htm Doing your own research can only help. Check out the "First Principles of Gastroenterology", http://gastroresource.com/GITextbook/en/Default.htm. I would take special note of the biliary system, Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction and pancreatitis.
Avatar m tn been suffering from pancreatitis and doctors thinking my gallbladder may be messed up....How common is it to have had a normal HIDA scan with no apparent stones?
