Pancreatitis and lipase

Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis and lipase

pancreatitis

Avatar f tn Hi, understand your concern. With pancreatitis usually the lipase and amylase values are increased many folds. And if chronic the imaging studies will usually show pancreatic fibrosis. In the absence of these findings its unlikely that you have chronic pancreatitis. The other causes for the pain could be infections of the bowel and bladder, prolapsed intervertebral disc or inflammatory diseases of the colon. So, if your symptoms persist discuss these options with your doctor. Regards.
Avatar f tn My lipase has been mildly elevated, also my ca 19 (panc tumor marker) is double norm and double what it was 4 wks prior. Dr did say pancreatitis and other factors could cause this to rise. My dad died of PC so I am scared I have it. My ab US, CT w dye and EUS were all clear. My dr and the dr that did my EUS said that they do not think its pancreatitis as it does not present this way, nor last this long, they say doubtfully cancer too.
Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me if exocrine pancreatic insufficiency affects lipase and amylase levels during a pancreatitis flare up? Also has anyone ever had normal blood levels with pancreatitis?
Avatar f tn In pancreatitis both lipase and amylase are usually elevated. Other tests (CT, MRI) are needed to confirm pancreatitis. But elevated lipase doesn't mean you have pancreatitis. Or, lipase level doesn't necessary correlate with severity of inflammation. ERCP was probably suggested because a small stone, either from gallbladder or pancreas can block pancrteatic duct - what results in pancreatitis. There's another, noninvasive investigation - MRCP, which could be done instead of ERCP.
Avatar f tn //www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/322201.php You could also have your symptoms and pancreatitis and have elevated lipase. Sometimes a bland diet will help such as the brat diet. This is banana, rice, applesauce, and toast. Lipase can stay elevated for a couple of weeks after a bout of gastroenteritis or pancreatitis. How long has it been?
Avatar n tn I have the same issue my lipase level is at 203 and my pain was starting in my upper right rib area and seems to be better. Going to have them re test me to see if it’s gone down. Just have nausea from time to time. They have not gave me anything and tested me for h pylori which was negative. Not sure what’s going on.
Avatar n tn They took a blood test and found my amylase and lipase were high. One was around 2500 and one around 350. What would cause this? I have no other symptoms of pancreatitis and am able to eat just fine. However, they did find I am constipated pretty badly.
Avatar n tn I hope to have got digestive correct, as I assume pancreatitis has to do with that. Vet called today, said Ozzie's level are over 1'000 on lipase count and that makes it sure it is pancreatitis, che chronic version. Having had a look at internet, none of the symptoms agree with what he does. He does not, vomit, reject food, loose stool....
Avatar n tn I too have a very low lipase number with acute and pain, blotted stomach, constipation, and gas (coming out both ends). Went to ER. They did a CT and blood work and told me everything was fine and sent me out the door. I was still in pain, bloated and feeling abandoned. I have all my labs and finally my CT scan results. I will be calling them on Monday 11/16/2020. They lied to me.
Avatar n tnPancreatitis - also known as inflammation of the pancreas, can cause amylase and lipase levels to be increased up to 3 times normal. Both values should be increased, in order to carry the diagnosis of pancreatitis. •Lipase may be increased in tumors of the pancreas, or stomach certain stomach conditions. These conditions are usually painful. •Gall bladder infection - Inflammation of the gall bladder (cholecystitis), may cause increased lipase levels (hyperlipasemia).
Avatar n tn my son have been in the hospital for 7 days now and his lipase and aylase levels are high and they dont seem to know what wrong. he has no pain any where and want to eat but when ever her eats regular food his levels go up higher. so now he is on liquid and loosing so much weight. CAn any body help or have answers??????
Avatar n tn The only thing consistent is my high levels of lipase. Interesting to note, I have very low levels of LDL and always have had lower levels. Do you have any thoughts as to what could cause or be affecting my high lipase levels? No one in my family has these levels and no family history of liver, pancreatic or gallbladder diseases or cancers.
Avatar f tn During a recent trip to Mexico, I came down with 'travelers diarrhea' - fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomitting, dehydration. Upon arriving back in the states, I was readmitted to the hospital due to elevated amylase and lipase. I didn't have the severe pancreatitis pain until later that night and then only one other bout two nights later. A CT scan, ERCP, and internal ultrasound were all normal and I was discharged after 5 days.
Avatar f tn I bet it’s pancreatitis....in April of this year, I learned the term Lipase. Lipase and “just shy of 48,000” went hand in hand. I too, thought I could “stomach” the pain and “suck it up” like I was taught in a lifetime of football, boxing, baseball, & basketball, few surgeries, and countless broken bones. When I finally agreed to go the hospital, almost 5 hours after it first started, I thought I was dying.
Avatar f tn Through all of this, his lipase and amylase are still very elevated. They have decreased some since his hospitalization, but they are far from normal (last blood work had lipase at 14 times normal and amylase was 4 times normal). He does not have any pain. He is eating an extremely low fat diet and has restrictions on his activites. Are there any suggestions on what might be causing this abnormality? I am worried about the long term effects for him. I appreciate any comments or help.
Avatar f tn doesnt sound like pancreatitis to me,,,sounds like you have gastro issues, and your nerves are getting your body to think it has pancreatitis!!,,anotherwards, you have to put that out of your mind.,,and some of the issues will subside!!,,i know see,i have gerd, and i also have a good friend who actualy has chronic pancreatitis from alcohol abuse...
Avatar n tn My daughter has chron's disease and had a lipase level of 715 and a normal Amylase level. What are some of the possible meanings of this?
Avatar m tn Anna, these were my symptoms when i first was in the hospt. w/ my pancreatitis, i had high Amalyse and Lipase levels and dull aching pain in my mid to left abdomen(for a week).., and since then my stools have been abnormal, I also have lost about 15 pounds, and i indeed have had a stool test for fat and mine came back negative. Thanks for sharing your story anna, hope your test comes back okay I just would like Dr. Rogue to give his opinion on what he thinks is wrong with me.
Avatar m tn When pancreatitis occurs she always has a strong pain with elevated Amylase and Lipase levels suggesting a pancreatic dysfunction. Yesterday she woke up vomiting with just a litter abdominal discomfort. Blood work shows no significant levels of amylase or lipase. I thought for a moment she probably has a gastric virus but then the Dr. said when the pancreas stop producing this enzymes she still going to experience pancreatitis, Is this possible? Then Dr. said..
Avatar m tn Liver enzymes were highly elevated. Normal lipase/amylase and ultrasound and X-rays came back normal. Only thing noted was a 10mm calcification on right hepatic. Went to GI who ordered MRCP and that came back with 'possible' common bile duct obstruction. During the time I waited for ERCP double balloon, my liver enzymes went back up. Had difficult procedure with history of my gastric bypass where they put a temp plastic stent.
Avatar f tn Ask your doctor to do a blood test for amylase & lipase levels.
Avatar n tn I also need a “red herring” explanation please. With Amylase and Lipase both over 5 times normal, gas, continual deep pain in upper right quadrant, fatigue and nausea, I'm at square one in getting any answers. Tests since Dec 2015: CT, Colonoscopy, Endoscopy, MRCP, Celiac blood test - all "appear normal". Primary Care Doc says "Nothing more to do. Everything looks fine".
Avatar f tn Have they checked his gallbladder? And have they tested him for autoimmune pancreatitis? If not, both should be done. In the meantime, he probably should be following a pancreatitis diet and taking supplemental enzymes to try to 'assist' with ''sick' pancreas.
Avatar f tn Then, I kept having elevated amylase and lipase levels, which required hospitalization for pain meds, fluids, and iv nutrition many times. In my case, when my lipase and amylase levels started to return to normal, I wasn't better like the drs said I should be...I still had really bad pain and if I would try eating or drinking too soon it would flare things up all over again. I couldn't have any fancy tests done because I had gastric bypass.
Avatar m tn is there anyway to make your amylase and lipase go up without having pancreatitis? can you give yourself pancreatitis without drinking a lot? im curious because i had it and they didnt know what caused it. please help respond im having black stools and bad pain and cramps in my stomach.
Avatar n tn My CT Scan was normal, same for my ultrasound, and endoscope. Yet, almost 2 weeks after my attack, my lipase and amylase levels remain very high. I have not been in pain for about 1 week. So what caused the attack? My doc has no idea. CalGal, what is autoimmune pancreatitis -- I never heard of it...
Avatar f tn She is 2yrs old. She only vomitted once and loose stool and lipase elevatef to 2600. Amylase was below normal. She is on Crean10000 every after meals. May I know how do i know if my baby is fully recovered. Is taking Creon a guarantee for me that her lipase and pancreas are safe now? She is on lowfat prescription diet. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Can this mean it’s a cancerous cyst? Can these symptoms make you feel sick. Also my lipase levels are elivated, not sure if the pain and nausea is from the inflamed pancreas or the cyst.
