Pancreatitis and ileus

Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis and ileus

pancreatitis

3241370 tn?1346753869 The most common post-pump abdominal complication is pancreatitis which can look like an ileus. I would assume that he has had his amylase and/or lipase level checked to rule this out.
Avatar n tn If your intestines have been "manhandled" during surgery then it is possible that you might have developed an ileus which, in layman's terms, is a reluctance by the intestines to restart the peristalsis process after such manhandling. I believe that there are drugs that can alleviate this condition if recovery is delayed. You might like to check "ileus" on google/yahoo etc and see whether the description matches your experience.
Avatar f tn a bowel obstruction..which caused a GI shutdown and stomach pain, constipation, weight gain, cramping, and poor quality of life. I told my situation in my previous entry. I truely need help. If anyone has any suggestions...I am going to be seeing a new Family Physician in 2 weeks and need direction.
643805 tn?1243968843 I believe if there is a small section that has serious damage from ulcerative colitis they can remove the section and give at least temporary relief. As far as ileus, it can have many causes and I don't know if you've just had surgery or if it is a direct result of the colitis or what. Maybe this article will help. http://digestive-disorders.health-cares.net/ileus.
Avatar f tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! An ileus and adhesions/small bowel obstructions are two different processes, both of which are common after an abdominal surgery. An ileus occurs immediately after surgery and it is when the bowel isn't pushing things through because it needs to "re-set" itself from the operation and the anesthesia given during the operation.
Avatar f tn In the meantime I would appreciate it if the other members of the forum who have had bowel problems would chime in and discuss what they suffered, what they have discovered for it and generally how they deal. the last time we really discussed this it was an astonishingly long thread. People need to see discussions of this. Be back tomorrow. It's into the wee hours of the morn and I am truly pooped. (ooops - pun not intended, but, what the hey!
Avatar m tn I was then advised to take an antibiotic, and a fat-free diet while waiting to repeat the ultrasound that I repeated a few days later and from which it emerged: "Gallbladder in place, inside large colaculus with clear cone of rear shadow with a diameter of 2.1x0.8x0.7 with walls of regular thickness and free infundibulum ". The doctor then advised me to take Deursil (225mg slow release twice a day), a fat free diet and to wait for it.
Avatar n tn He still has a tube down his throat to pump his stomach and is fed intraveously. The doctors feel they have ruled out any blockage and told him to hang in there and it will eventually start working. After nine weeks we are not satisfied with that. Has anyone known of a case where it lasted that long, and/or is there a possibility that this could be permanent? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I believe that there are drugs that can be administered to negate this complaint - but also, after some time, the ileus disappears and the intestines start to function normally. Before that happens vomiting of bile juice (green-yellow coloured vomit) is a symptom.
29837 tn?1414534648 The spinal surgery (Leminectomy at L 3-4 and L 4-5) went well. However, there was a complication called Ileus. This is blockage of the small intestines. I didn't eat for 9 days. I had ice chips and Jell-O coming out of my ears. That cheeseburger on the 10th day was almost as good as sex... Ileus = The relaxing of muscles due to the anesthesia forces the food to remain in your stomach instead of being digested, as a blockage of the small intestines.
Avatar f tn I suiggest that your mother revisits the surgeon and asks for help - and specifically asks whether she is suffering from an ileus. If so, are there drugs that can be administered to re-start the peristalsis of the intestines and thus return to a normal nutrition cycle?
20445453 tn?1498061430 My mother (58 y/o, had total abdominal hysterectomy 2016, hospital stay was 21 days with severe ileus) underwent incisional hernia repair surgery for a large hernia in the incisional area, which was caused by her having a severe case of ileus last year. She was sent home the day after, contrary to what was programmed and paid for. She spent most of the day okay, BUT then around 9 PM she got really sick, all nauseous and bloated.
Avatar f tn A CT scan revealed two large haematomas in his abdominal area as well as ileus. He has now had paralytic ileus for two weeks, is still very distended, and his intestines are full of air. The surgical team keep saying “wait for up to 6 weeks”. My question is, how long can he wait before he ends up with necrosis? Is there anyway to deflate the small bowel? Stoma output is 100-200ml over 24 hours, urine about 1500ml, however input around 2500ml. Thanks.
Avatar n tn The downside of this, is that your guts may occasionally behave erratically, expecially when challenged with altered feeding schedules, and variable loads of food to digest. It reacts in its own way and recovers in its own time. You've probably had one of these, and learned from experience that your guts start to improve in a few hors or days or so. During the operation, the anesthesia knocks out the normal cycles of the intestines.
Avatar n tn Not only do I have bone spurs but an ileus. And on top of that my back Dr who I was referred to b/c of the bone spurs....informed me about the ileus. I am worried that these Doctors are missing something huge...they already have! I had an MRI yesterday and now by looking at it and comparing it to other Spine MRI's online..it appears that I have a herniated disc.... (on top of the back spurs and ileus) I have to wait until July 10th to go back to my Back Doctor... I'm a mess!!
Avatar n tn Trouble was I had a really bad Nicorette habit. Low and behold I have chronic pancreatitis and if I chew the gum--the pancreatic pain skyrockets. I would say "YES" Nicorette either causes, triggers, or aggrevates pancreatitis.
Avatar n tn Hi. My kid is 10 yrs old. She has big belly. She weighs 30kgs and stands 4ft 3in. She has a good appetite and very active. But I notice that she farts alot. Every morning before eating anything for breakfast, her tummys is normal not bloated. But when she started eating even with a piece of biscuits, gas accumulates inside the tummy and looks like bloated. Her Xray result reads as "ADYNAMIC ILEUS' what this means? If a kid has this condition, what will happen, orwhat will I expect?
Avatar f tn His small intestine is still not awake. Ng tube for bile. Will intestine ever wake up? He is 78 and extremely weak. Any one else experienced this or known of anyone? He is in agony and hoping it will just take time...
Avatar m tn When I underwent colon surgery I was told that there were drugs that could be administered to nullify an intestinal ileus and you may wish to ask the surgeon about this.
Avatar f tn im now being directed to take a gastric emptying study which i already have had done a year ago and those results were normal..my question is...is here a link between pancreatitis and bile reflux? and if so, would it not be indicative of an obstruction (due to the minor dilation) of my pancreatic duct....is there any remedies or speculation around these test results?
Avatar n tn I had hyperparathyroidism and it was my understanding that was separate from my thyroid issue. I'm not sure that is clinically correct though. Hope you get more answers.
916369 tn?1243367446 just tylenol which to me does nothing but I understand that the narcotics are not good on the stomach. Did anyone else form an ileus? The surgeon told me that it happens to 10% of people and that the type I had was very rare. He also scared me when he said there was no guarantee it would not come back later on. I also formed a blood clot in my liver so now I am giving myself Lovenox shots in the stomac every morning. I go to a doctor on March 9th to start coumadin pills.
Avatar m tn Now its been basically non-stop, confirmed by mri, that it is chronic pancreatitis, and fatty liver. Im being sent to a pain specialist for the pain, and hoping he can offer relief, because Ive been recieving very little help from my doctor with that. Im 5'5", used to be about 138lbs, and now am 162, with gain of 10lbs a month on a low fat diet, no meat, no bread, soft food. I dont understand except unless wieght gain is from thyroid going wrong, im hypothyroid.
Avatar m tn I also had one local hospital that identified the same issues (the other hospitals reported nothing), but the local hospital that did report something did not tell me, I had to pull the record to see what was on it. But now I have a somewhat general consensus of ileus, enteritis and a fistual at the anastomosis. That all basically means Chrons disease, bowel atrophy, and a cyst where I was reconnected. I orignially had a very powerful GI local doctor.
