Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis and drinking

pancreatitis

Avatar n tn Thank you for all the helpful comments!! He does have an alochol abuse problem and recently moved in with me to try and get his life together. He is still drinking, though, and I'm just trying to figure out if there is any amount he can drink and be safe- or if he does need to stop altogether- as I'm not sure that can happen at this point. He does not have health insurance at this point so I can't take him to the doctor to have them talk to them.
Avatar m tn Well I/we know she has a drinking problem, she has started drinking again. She said she researched and drinking Red Wine does not hurt her Pancreatitis. In my feeble attempts of research I have not found anything that supports her thought process. What scares me is she was in a Coma for about 5 weeks and came real close to death for the first week or so, the doctors didn't think she was going to live.
Avatar m tn It seems like everytime that I drink acouple beers the next day I wake up with a pain in my stomach and a low grade fever. I went to my GI doctor and had a endoscopy and he said, beside the Barett's Esophagus and hiatal hernia that he knew about everything looked normal. He said, maybe the pain was Celiac disease or even Pancreatitis. He said, I would need to get blood work to check this out.
Avatar m tn or it could be pancreatitis.. if you've been drinking or hitting NSAD's really hard lately..the pain is pretty high with pancreatitis and you'd be doubled over..but not always. A blood test for pancreatitis can be used if you've been drinking a lot.. either way with an ulcer i'd avoid alchohol/tylenol/asprin like the plague. That'll kill your stomach.
Avatar m tn The light oily BMS are the result of your food not being digested. Enzymes can help that if it is CP. In the mean time stick to a low fat diet and no drinking at all.
Avatar f tn You can have chronic and not have elevated enzymes and your ct scan can look normal, because chronic pancreatitis is a process not like acute.
Avatar f tn Her symptoms came on suddenly. Because she was not throwing up and still drinking water, the vet sent her home with antibiotics and pain meds. The decision to not hospitalize her was also based on cost. Initially she seemed to get better. However, her belly is swollen again and she is not eating well at all. Her swollen belly is my biggest concern. Why would it do that again even though she just finished her medication. Could she be having a relapse?
Avatar m tn i think that the abnormal liver tests are due to the drinking. if you stop i do not think that you will incur any permanant damage.
Avatar n tn did they say what caused the pancreatitis?,,,alcohol?...ya,the pain could last SOME TIME...and if it was alcohol,,stop drinking!,,or youll soon get it again!
Avatar n tn Hi .. I have the same thing ... started a year or so ago with mild spasms in left back and front area .. now its pretty much constant and it's in my left hip and left shoulder. Sometimes my ribs and side is tender to touch and I get gas and discomfort as well as low back ache. I had one bad lot of pain one night that I thought might be pancreatitis but nothing since and I carried on drinking heavily (I had a drink problem but have stopped now) for several months after and no more attacks.
Avatar f tn I dont't know about the hepatitis but I do know from experience it causes pancreatitis and yellow jaundice when you drink too much. It wouldn't hurt for you to drink a lot of water. I am in recovery from drinking too much all the time. The elevated enzymes can be a sign of liver or pancreas problems.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I had pancreatitis 8 years ago, was the worst pain ive ever had, could barely swallow saliva never mind eat or drink anything went from 11 stone down 7 stone, but after 3 months i got better, only thing is im now 31 like going out and drinking and every now and then my amylase levels rise, and im also a glutten for spicy food and faty foods, i know recipe for disaster, but even when i had full blown pancreatitis my levels where no where near the hights urs has risen, worst mine got to
Avatar m tn is there anyway to make your amylase and lipase go up without having pancreatitis? can you give yourself pancreatitis without drinking a lot? im curious because i had it and they didnt know what caused it. please help respond im having black stools and bad pain and cramps in my stomach.
Avatar m tn Back in Nov 08, during a physical and ultrasound to check for what was first thought to be an ulcer, the Doc told me there was some inflammation of my pancreas and liver (alcoholic hepatitis), and to stop drinking immediately, since I consider myself a heavy drinker. If I stopped drinking I was told, everything would return to normal and be ok over time. I am only 31 years old, so I was suprised.
Avatar f tn Every attack causes damage to your pancreas. Even though you quit drinking the damage has been done. You need to read up on chronic pancreatitis and get more of an understanding.
Avatar f tn re headed to an acute bout of pancreatitis and trust me, you do not want that to happen. Pancreatitis often turns into the gift that keeps on giving and becomes a horribly painful, chronic condition. Alcohol abuse is a common cause of pancreatitis and any doctor will tell you that alcohol has to go out of your life forever or you risk another acute attack. Alcohlic hepatitis is another condition high on the list of suspects.
Avatar m tn Pancreatitis In addition to causing stomach irritation (gastritis), drinking can inflame the pancreas. Chronic pancreatitis interferes with the digestive process, causing severe abdominal pain and persistent diarrhea --and "it's not fixable," Saitz says. Some cases of chronic pancreatitis are triggered by gallstones, but up to 60% stem from alcohol consumption." (webmd.com) I think you need to see your doctor about this.

Avatar f tn The doctors ran test and i was told it was pancreatitis. I was checked for Gal stones, was clear. They said they found no cause, and it was put down to alcohol misuse. I am not a heavy drinker. Could the Solpadol have caused this? I read in the leaflet one of the severe side affects is pancreatitis.
Avatar f tn At the time, the doctors were checking me for diabetes because I guess those things are related. Generally Pancreatitis is caused by gallstones or excessive drinking. I am not an excessive drinker and by then my gallbladder had been removed. I just went for a follow-up this afternoon and now my doc wants to check my Thyroid. So, I guess all of that stuff can be related.
Avatar n tn He has gone through massive blood testing throughout the month and everything is normal except for the elevated Lipase levels, had quit drinking a month ago, had an Ultrasound, CT Scan, and MRI which were all normal. I have noticed signs of depression, anxiety, and his stomach discomfort for at least the past 6 months. His specialist told him that they didn't believe at this time it was Pancreatitis because they stated the levels would have gone down to normal by now.
Avatar m tn I know that pancreatitis can lead to diabetes and she was given Lactulose laxative for the constipation. She was on that last time when she had this problem and honestly, the Lactulose does not work on her. She was getting 3 doses per day and the vet said we would come home to a mess, but it never happened. I was also giving her canned pumpkin with the Lactulose, and a lot more than the 2 tbsp per day that they recommend, and still nothing. I finally got results by walking her.
Avatar n tn Not drinking is an added problem, and in a dog as small as yours, dehydration can set in very quickly and can be very dangerous especially for a small dog. She could, literally die, and quite quickly, from dehydration itself. So I would take her to the vet a.s.a.p.
Avatar m tn t know what impact having lost a kidney will have, but the risks of heavy alcohol consumption including increased risk of cancer, pancreatitis (which can be fatal), cirrhosis, heart attack, and stroke, to name some. No one can tell you IF any of those things will ever happen to you, or when they would if they do. Some people never experience these problems, and others do after only a few years of heavy drinking.
719251 tn?1230340905 Have they explained the cause of the pancreatitis? It is a painful and scary condition, and I think outcome has a lot to do with the cause, but I'm sure it's very hard to watch somebody go through this. I hope she gets relief soon. I think the doctors treating her are the best ones to ask these questions of. I hope they make themselves available to you.
