Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis and diabetes

pancreatitis

Avatar f tn Okay I am aware this is a diabetes forum, but the thyroid ask a doctor forum is full, like they usually are.. and am seeking advice.. I was wondering, because a friend of mine has shown symptoms of hyperthyroidism, after I had done some research, and I plan on urging them to get this checked out. I also know that this person's father has pancreatitis. I read that thyroid disorders can be hereditary.
Avatar f tn Okay, I was wondering because a friend of mine has shown symptoms of hyperthyroidism, after I had done some research, and I plan on urging them to get this checked out. I also know that this person's father has pancreatitis. I read that thyroid disorders can be hereditary. Do you think that this has anything to do with the possible hyperthyroidism, the association between pancreatitis and thyroid disorders? I can't find much about it. And are thyroid disorders linked with diabetes?
Avatar m tn He was in hospital for a couple of weeks and got better gradually. Doctors established that he had acute pancreatitis and secondary diabetes. The cyst was drained. As my husband has had pain for years and we found out that pancreatic cysts coupled with secondary diabetes (doctors established that he has had secondary diabetes for years without knowing) are symptoms of chronic pancreatitis, we thought he had, had chronic pancreatitis for years.
Avatar f tn I am 30 and was diagnosed with chronic/ acute recurrent pancreatitis about 4 and a half years ago. The doctors believe mine is related to CF, because I also have some lung issues. I was put on a morphine pain pump 2+ years ago. After MANY discussions with my doctors: Pain, GI, Pulmonary and High risk OB, the doctors still were not sure...they said they had never dealt with a pregnancy with someone this severe, but that I could try it and we would find out. I am now 5 months pregnant.
Avatar n tn Hi, Scars and calcification in the pancreas are features of chronic pancreatitis. In this condition, the secretion of enzymes and hormones from the pancreas gets affected and this effect depends on how much of the pancreas is affected. There will poor absorption of the nutrients resulting in weightloss and nutritional problems. It may cause diabetes mellitus. It is also a risk factor for pancreatic cancer though the risk is not 100%.
Avatar n tn you mention your cholestoral was i little high,,,sometimes pre diabetes can increase your cholesterol, and blood sugars...and people in pre diabetes can have elevated enzyme levels if the pancreatitis symptoms are from diabetes...
Avatar n tn Hi, I wonder if anyone can offer any advice at all? I am reluctant to go to my GP, as I am currently being treated and investigated for so many other issues (diabetes, Cushing's disease to name just two!) and I'm sure he's going to think I'm a moaning hypochondriac! I had my gallbladder removed 18 months ago, following NO symptoms of gallstones (despite being full of them), BUT following an attack of acute pancreatitis.
Avatar f tn It's possible you have chronic pancreatitis instead of acute- that condition can lead to diabetes and does require more treatment. I'd go for a follow up or get a second opinion to make sure that they are addressing this- it might not be chronic, but it's worth another check in if you are still experiencing pain.
Avatar n tn One thing I should mention, pancreatitis can be a precursor to diabetes. A year later, max developed diabetes. (We manage it very well with diet and Vetsulin but it takes dedication, a rigid feeding schedule and 2 shots a day.) Keep an eye out for the symptoms once your pal is well. Early symptoms include increased drinking, iurinating more (accidents may be a sign), weight loss, increased appetite, dehydration and sudden cataract formation.
Avatar f tn The doctor told me I have type 2 diabetes and chronic pancreatitis. Which is a crap combination since I overly avoid eating anymore in fear of the potential consequence. Idk what to do, where to go, how to gain some semblance of normalcy back, and it's destroying me. Any insights would be appreciated and welcomed..
Avatar f tn I read somewhere that chewing and spitting can cause an insulin response which is how you develop type II diabetes (too many insulin responses and your body loses its insulin sensitivity) and it would make sense that bulimia would also. I don't really know. if it did, you would think you would have heard about it by now though.
Avatar n tn My father was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis shortly after WWII. He developed it shortly after being shipped back from England in a coma with a very high temperature. He had the usual symptoms of RA but it was not symetrical. It affected different joints on either side of the body. He died in 1965. About a year before he died, he developed unusual symptoms- loss of taste, areas of de-pigmentation etc.
Avatar f tn Ask what is happening and is this from gallstones and do you have pancreatitis and if so, what can you do and what can you expect. http://www.ddc.musc.edu/public/problems/diseases/pancreas/pancreatitisChronic.cfm I hope this finds you already seen by your endocrinologist and feeling better.
Avatar n tn WELL THIS IS ALL VERY NEW AND UNPLEASANT FOR ME. I DID NOT REALIZE HOW MANY PEOPLE THIS EFFECTS. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I JUST HAD A WEEKS STAY IN THE HOSPITAL FOR PANCREATITIS. I DID EVERY TEST UNDER THE SUN, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND A CAUSE. I DO NOT DRINK, I DO NOT HAVE GALLSTONES, AND MY TRIGLYCERIDE LEVEL IS NORMAL. I'M LOST BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT I CAN AND CAN'T HAVE TO EAT.
Avatar n tn no evidence of masses or pancreatitis, the absence of the pancreatic body and tail, no pancreatic ductal dilation, difficulty in visualizing the pancreatic duct, and hypodense areas in both lobes of the liver. A previous ERCP showed pancreas divisum. Liver biopsies showed missing small bile ducts, but the ERCP showed normal major bile ducts. Could these CT results be the source of my daughter's chronic pain? Would an ERCP procedure to correct the pancreas divisum provide relief?
Avatar m tn With geriatric cases you have to consider all past history (diabetes and pancreatitis) and look at current status. A complete physical exam plus some current status blood work would be a great idea right now. Diabetes control varies with age and pancreatitis recurs. Get to the vet for a physical assessment. Good luck, caring for a senior is hard - but special.
Avatar m tn If your dog had it 6 years before diagnosed there is probably already damage to the liver and kidneys. And I would watch for blindness and diabetes. I had to give my angel insulin shots. When she lost her eyes I carried her everywhere. She became incontinent and had to wear diapers. Now my 5 year old schnauzer had her first attack of pancreatitis. Standard treatment is to withhold food for 72 hours. Drink small amounts of water.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes 9 years ago and noticed a cyclical change in blood sugars that get worse, then better since 2015. This year, I had pancreatitis from Ozempic. Since then, I have had continuing pain in my upper left side with inflammation of the small intestine. I am now on insulin and the pain and inflammation are now going away. Anyone with Type II DM experience this before? My doctor wants to test me for auto-immune diabetes.
Avatar m tn I have had pancreatitis before and this does feel very similar. Fortunately, this time it went away but pancreatitis is extremely painful and doesn't go away. I was kept in the hospital for 7 days, no food, no water, intravenous fluids and strong pain medication every 2 to 4 hours as needed! I NEVER want to experience that again but I can't help but fear that I will. My pancreas was damaged by both the diabetes and by the pancreatitis so my chances are high of having this reoccur.
Avatar n tn Tests showed many of her organs were swollen and inflamed and her heart was not beating properly. This was only a about 10 days ago. She is still recovering, but to my alarm, I find her vision has also suddenly deteriorated. What could possibly have caused all of these things to go so wrong so fast? She has been a very healthy dog all of her life, until this. I can't imagine why everything has gone wrong at once. Please help.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Pancreatitis 2 years ago and had 2 be hospitalized for a month beacuse of my Diabetes being too high and amylase & lipase being over 1000 (it was 1500). So I was wondering if I need 2 be re-hospitalized 2 see if it's up because I'm very scared if I don't something about this soon.
