Pancreatitis and beer

Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis and beer

pancreatitis

Avatar f tn beer is alcohol in large quantities it brings on cirrhosis, pancreatitis hepatitis...does hike the liver enzymes!
Avatar m tn It seems like everytime that I drink acouple beers the next day I wake up with a pain in my stomach and a low grade fever. I went to my GI doctor and had a endoscopy and he said, beside the Barett's Esophagus and hiatal hernia that he knew about everything looked normal. He said, maybe the pain was Celiac disease or even Pancreatitis. He said, I would need to get blood work to check this out.
Avatar n tn Since all your lab works and imaging studies are otherwise normal and you never had any bout of pancreatitis before, a wait and watch policy is likely to be the best course of action for you. Also, the risk of surgery to pancreas is high, so since the side branch lesions are usually harmless, a wait and watch policy is adopted for most lesions less than 3 cm which do not cause dilatation of the main pancreatic duct nor have a solid mass or nodule within them.
Avatar f tn I have chronic pancreatitis and this disease is very hard to diagnose and be diagnosable with! The thing that is hard with it is, which you have experienced, your scans can look normal and blood tests also and you still have pain, nausea, fatigue and the whole pancreatitis everything! The ER will not do anything about this because nothing is showing up on any of your tests and according to the its not an "emergency" so get to a GI fast!
Avatar f tn I washed my boyfriends shirt today and it was soaking wet with sweat and smelled like a bottle of ammonia had been dumped on it. He is diabetic and had pancreatitis a few years ago. He doesn’t take his diabetic medications and still drinks beer almost everyday. He always has headaches, body aches, doesn’t sleep well and sweats buckets just walking. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn There is a website with information on digestive and kidney diseases(and pancreatitis) that the National Institutes of Health sponsor. Perhaps you can find some helpful information. I take one Prilosec, 20 mg(prescribed); Prilosec ,10 mg is sold OTC at any pharmacy. Here is the website: http:digestive.niddk.gov. I do not know why, but the website takes you to Google that list the same URL. Click on the Heading, Digestive, and search.
Avatar m tn My question is after a period of inactivity, say 6 months to a year, is it okay to have a beer or two and go back to normal eating habits? Not eating or drinking like before, but a few beers or drinks on a night out or the weekend?
471161 tn?1317190950 t mind me asking this because a family member has been diagnosed with a fatty liver. He is overweight, about 40lbs. and drinks beer (about four) per day. I am very worried because he seems to be in denial since he was told. I know someone who went this direction and ended up with pancreatitis. Can you please tell me what blood tests he should get and maybe what foods to stay away from or something/ His doctor only told him to lose weight and nothing else.
Avatar f tn Almost 2 months ago, after a particularly boozy bachelorette party, I started having severe acid reflux and regurgitation, as well as nausea and diarrhea. My doctor ran blood tests, and my pancreatic enzymes were slightly elevated (I can remember one was at 108.) My nausea was mild, but the reflux was severe. I felt like something was stuck in my throat, and I would cough up I digested food hours after I had eaten it. I had no stomach pain, or any pain at all.
Avatar f tn This kind of pain with drinking can be from pancreatitis - I know. I have chronic pancreatitis and it all started with alcohol. Same pain in the back that radiates. They will do enzyme tests to see if they are elevated. But you should go in when you are in pain as if you wait, they could return back to normal. Maybe you shouldn't drink AT ALL. Ask your doc to refer you to a gastroenterologist.
Avatar n tn It will not affect your Stent, but excessive drinking will lead to Heart damage, Liver damage, Kidney damage, Brain damage, Pancreatitis and all kinds of problems. So in a week, you can sensibly drink up to 21 units. A unit is a standard measure given in a bar.
Avatar m tn I still drink beer on the weekends and take nexium to control heartburn. Could my liver be out of whack and it not show up at all during a hida scan or all of the blood tests they did?
Avatar f tn Ask you Dr if they will test you for this and if not get it done so you can start managing this if you have it. Hereditary pancreatitis usually will have some acute episodes and will progress into chronic pancreatitis. They can give you enzymes to help digest food if this is what you have. Other reasons for pancreatitis are high fats ( hyperlipidemia) in the blood and high calcium in the blood ( hypercalcemia).
Avatar m tn Since the followup a month and 1/2 ago, I have been drinking in moderation as the doc ordered, drinking beer and wine mostly, but maybe went over 2 drinks a couple times. No major binges or anything. The yellow watery stool now has me terrified that it may be related to cirhosis or chronic pancreatitis, which are both irreversible.
Avatar n tn Trouble was I had a really bad Nicorette habit. Low and behold I have chronic pancreatitis and if I chew the gum--the pancreatic pain skyrockets. I would say "YES" Nicorette either causes, triggers, or aggrevates pancreatitis.
1835769 tn?1318283340 s stuff together and there was a beer there and i drank it and was feeling werid from getting hit in the head and worried about my mother taking my daughter so i called 911.
Avatar m tn I suffer from chronic pancreatitis, sarcoidosis and gastroparesis. I also have the problems with a bloated stomach. The only relief I have is to either purge or wait and go without eating for 5 days. It is very painful and uncomfortable. I am sorry you are having so much trouble with a diagnosis. Hope you get some answers soon.
Avatar m tn I have had an ultra sound done on my gallbladder and it turned up negative for anything. I am sorry if i didnt mention that in the first description.
Avatar f tn im now being directed to take a gastric emptying study which i already have had done a year ago and those results were normal..my question is...is here a link between pancreatitis and bile reflux? and if so, would it not be indicative of an obstruction (due to the minor dilation) of my pancreatic duct....is there any remedies or speculation around these test results?
Avatar m tn One stopped drinking, the other stopped for about three weeks and then started back up and ended up with pancreatitis in the hospital. You cannot drink with fatty liver, period. Sorry...
Avatar n tn I had hyperparathyroidism and it was my understanding that was separate from my thyroid issue. I'm not sure that is clinically correct though. Hope you get more answers.
1835769 tn?1318283340 Why do you have ua's three times a week? Does this have something to do with your pancreatitis? I am concerned with the medications you have been taking and in combination with the pancreatitis, what condition is your liver in? I read your post about having "a beer" and im worried for your health.
Avatar m tn Now its been basically non-stop, confirmed by mri, that it is chronic pancreatitis, and fatty liver. Im being sent to a pain specialist for the pain, and hoping he can offer relief, because Ive been recieving very little help from my doctor with that. Im 5'5", used to be about 138lbs, and now am 162, with gain of 10lbs a month on a low fat diet, no meat, no bread, soft food. I dont understand except unless wieght gain is from thyroid going wrong, im hypothyroid.
Avatar f tn Hopefully they can get to the bottom of all of this. I try to convince him to wean off of all of the pills and beer but he says that I am "nagging him" and he threatens me with divorce!!! So, maybe the doctor can convince him.

Avatar n tn t really given much say in the matter, as the pancreatitis was a nasty attack and I was strongly advised to get my gallbladder out asap after it. It was a straightforward procedure, with no after effects. I can't really say I felt better, because apart from the pancreatitis incident, I never had any problems beforehand! I do sometimes suffer with the "dumping syndrome" which, whilst unpleasant, doesn't worry me too much as I believe it's normal.
