No doubt we would all do better if we were more eager to consume healthy foods and less willing to rely on pharmaceutical solutions. Personally I have absolutely no doubt diet is a factor in MS. Unfortunately I have a hard time seeing myself coming anywhere close to achieving compliance with a paleo diet. I know - I defeat myself. I've had success controlling some of my symptoms with supplements.

738075 tn?1330575844 t see any results) Interestingly all of the different diets the recovery diet, paleo diet and swank diet claim to make a huge difference but what is or is not allowed on the diets vary. Some allow red meat (grass fed) but limited carbs and others allow no red meat. So I started thinking, they all in my mind have shown some improvement for the people following the diet. I agree I take this with a grain of salt, but I do think there is a truth to diet affecting MS.

Avatar m tn Whatever, My diet which was great before is now a mix of Paleo and a just regular healthy diet with some grains and a bit of dairy. Paleo has some killer recipes and lucky for me, I love to cook. The added protein on Paleo gave me a much more steady and continuous form of energy with far less dips. Was never comfortable with sharing this info after the outburst on this forum about my wheatgrass juicing.
Avatar f tn A low-carb diet will give you a flat belly faster than any exercise. The paleo diet is the healthiest form of low-carb diet, IMO. I would not go on a low-carb diet that was composed of low-carb junk food. If you eat a paleo diet, you are only eating real, whole foods (no junk food) and no grains. It's a lot of meat, vegetables, and healthy fats.

Avatar n tn If you have time to go to the gym to do weights, throw in some cardio -- something you can handle, don't start at too high a level. Paleo is fine for some people, but it isn't really one diet -- there are many forms of the so-called Paleo diet and it isn't really Paleo -- nobody ever ate this way.

Avatar f tn I eat like Alex. Always have. For a month, I did a paleo diet, eliminating dairy, gluten eggs. It was just veg, fruit, nuts and lean meat. It did nothing to help my MS symptoms, but I noticed the elimination of dairy, gluten and eggs was much easier on my digestion. Since I've stopped such a rigorous regimen, I've slowly added these things back to my diet, and have decided FRESH dairy products just don't agree with my system.
Avatar f tn I like the paleo diet. My weight loss had stalled for a long time, and now I'm losing again on the paleo diet. There's a lot of information out there about the paleo diet, nowadays. A book called The Paleo Approach is a good introduction. I also like the PaleoMom website, and she also has a book that has just come out. Nom Nom Paleo is another good source. In effect, the paleo diet is a low-carb diet, because you don't eat any grains.
Avatar f tn I've got the same issue, but with me... I lose it and then gain it back. So Ive had success losing it but always manage to gain it back. Obviously, diet and exercise are key. I am on a high protein diet, the paleo diet. Not only do I use the treadmill but I also life weights. The weight won't just fall off. Remember, it took a while to get where you are, it is going to take a while and a lot of work to get it off. It is doable though.
Avatar f tn Everyone's situation will be different, especially if you are on insulin or other medications vs being diet controlled. I'm diet controlled (for 2 years) so I have to be very mindful of what I eat and I had to learn what foods made my sugar spike. I NEVER recommend trying to eat a certain amount of carbs, I believe we should limit them as much as possible unless your sugar dips too low. Focus on eating as many leafy green veggies as possible. Drink lots of water.

I didn't expect that it would help as much as it has, but I can really feel the difference. I'd be happy to send it to you if you'd like, at which point you should probably check with your doctor on whether it's right for you. I have to stay away from gluten as well.

Avatar m tn Yeah, (yawn) it's interesting...Many of us on this forum have done our own experimentation of diet as a means of fighting MS. It's not that she wasn't helped by this paleo diet (personally, I think it's great for anyone), and she may be enjoying a wonderful remission. Studies have shown paleo, or gluten free diets, or the Swank diet, really aren't effective in fighting the relapse rate or progression rate of MS.
Avatar m tn Lots of opinions ("professional" and other) re diet/nutrition. What is working for me now, is a "South Beach/Zone" type of diet which is basically lean meat/fish and vegetables. Almost no starch (bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, etc) and very little fruit -- maybe one portion three times a week. With this diet -- and copious amounts of exercise -- Ive lost ten pounds, brought my cholesterol down from 200 to 150 and normalized my bp from pre-hypertensive.
