im suffering from back pain now for 3 weeks already. when i cough my upper back is aching and also when i take a deep breath. i don't cough really hard, i only cough when i take deep breath and that also my upper back ache. does my back pain is related with the coughing? do i need to go to my doctor already? my back pain is getting worst especially when i try to lift heavy things. does this mean there's something wrong with my lungs? do i need to have an x-ray?
My doctor stated there was a mild decrease in flow in the back but not in the front. He stated he wanted to refer me to a headache specialist to rule out anything else, although my headaches spund like chiari. He said Chiari is not black and white that he operated on an 18 year old with a much larger herniation but no headaches. I will get the actual report but this is where I stand now. I asked him if my wreck and whiplash casused me to become symptomatic.
Any over the counter cough meds do not work. Seems like the only thing that helps this cough is codeine medicine or like percocet pain medicine...in which both is hard to get doctor to give prescription for. Can you help with any suggestions on home remedies that i could try? Please help!

Last year I developed a very bad cough, I was coughing so bad, my chest was in constant pain, my head would throb, I was prescribed everything to relieve my cough, nothing worked. Visit my Cardiologist, told him what was going on, he stopped my bp med Lisinopril, changed med over to Avapro which I no longer take, but after two weeks my cough stopped.
This happened about ten years ago, and it doesn't pain much, only when I have been sitting for some time, and the back is stiff so I can't bend much. Earlier when I coughed, it used to pain in the lower back and the legs when there was sciatica, but for the past few days, it has been paining more in the region between the legs. I don't know what its called, maybe the pelvic floor? Also, the muscle or tendon or whatever of the left hand side of the right leg also pains.
I always have awful pain in my back when coughing or sneezing. It drives me nuts! That's why I do everything in my power to stay clear of colds, etc. With me, it has to do with a herniated lumbar disk. Do you have something like that? If not, I wonder if there's something going on in your lungs. I know sometimes the pain in the lungs can feel like its coming from the back. Maybe you should call your Dr and at least tell him the symptoms. Good luck and hope you feel better soon!
When I'm lying down, I get a sharp pain in my back when I breath. Also, if I'm lying on my back and try to sit up, I get a sharp pain that shoots through my back and through my chest. I don't have any other symptoms, such as coughing or shortness of breath. What could be wrong with me?
When ever I breath in deep to cough it feels like I'm being stabed. It hurts even when I'm not coughing but not as bad. I've never had the back pain befor so I'm worried. What could it be?

Now every time I cough I get extremely sharp headaches, the pain is on both sides and like the back of my skull. Any ideas or knowledge if this indicates something serious?
Now, in addition to still having the cough I'm having joint pain -- pain in one of my fingers, one of my ankles and one of my wrists. It sort of reminds me of those "growing pains" from when I was a child. Could this cough and pain be related? Should I go back to my physician? And ask for what?
- Constant coughing (most when I am sitting, when it's hot outside, or when the air is wet, but other times as well; no link to excercise), every day - Short, stabbing pains in my upper chest, an inch or two below the clavicule (both sides), my left armpit my left shin bone (when running), my shoulders (especially when leaning on them), and occasionally my upper or lower back; something, usually more than one something, hurts every day - Drawn-out, aching pains in my left calf muscle (when sit
Sharp pain could be ligiment pain, stretching, coughing is just a cold. I had two back to back and I thought I was strep throat, and my chest was congested, aweful! Hard coughs and getting up to fast, changing position also cause the sharp stab,or dull achey, I had both sides hurt for hours! But felt the sharp pain on the left, apparently it's common. Wouldn't worry.
I DO HAVE SCRAING ON MY RIGHT LUNG AND MY DOC SAID THAT WOULD NOT MAKE ME COUGH. ALSO WHEN I TAKE ANY KIND OF PAIN MEDS WITH A NARCOTIC LIKE HYDROCODONE I DONT COUGH NO PAIN AND I CAN BREATH? WHY IS THAT AND WITH OUT IT IM SO MISERABLE. IAM VERY WORRIED ABOUT THE WAY I FEEL I HAVE NO ENERGY AND GET OUT OF BREATH VERY EASILY. SHOULD I WALK MORE? WHAT DO I DO IAM NOT GETTING ANY ANSWERS TO MY PROBLEM AND NOW I HAVE TO HAVE A NARCOTIC TO KEEP ME COMFORTABLE.
Hi, The symptoms you described seem to be intermittent, which is not similar to cancer pain (which is usually persistent and progressive). Back pain in a lung cancer patient is usually due to involvement of the bones. If the ribs are involved, then there may be pain during breathing, if it is one of the bones on the spine it could mean weakness to paralysis of the legs. The odds of cancer for someone your age would be small but not impossible, quitting smoking is a good step to take.
00 pm now on the same day and she is still coughing non stop but added to that she is having soreness to touch in her neck, front and back, her upper chest and even her arm pits. She said that it almost feels like someone is choking her although she is not having problems swallowing. This is a new symptom that started about a half hour ago. My question are: Can this new symptom be from the medication she took almost 12 hrs ago? Do you have any idea what this can be?
The coughing is really very violent and i have permanently sore ribs. I have also got chronic pain in my lower back (a new development today after a coughing fit) I have an inhaler which just aggrevates the problem. As a child I had the same thing and was told i had post-nasal drip, and hd my adenoids removed which seemed to solve it. I'm not sure i actually am asthmatic as i never had breathing problems before. Is there a chance my post nasal drip came back?
have sharp pain in left side of back below shoulder blade. Hurts when coughing or twist body. started when I reached to open a gate door while cutting grass. Happend two days ago. I work out at least 3 days a week and hard to believe if I pulled a muscle in back, although thats all I hope I did.
my 5 year old daugher, has a consistant cough, that gets worse when she lies down at night and when she gets up in the morning.. she was a very sick child when she was 2 and all upper resp. ending in the hospital after a year and a half of antibiotic and hospitalization, with overwhelming resp bacterial inf. or menenjitis at that point.. almost death.. she was also born with mecomium... and 2 weeks early she gets sick easily, and it always is bad..
I've been having trouble sleeping, and when i do get some sleep i wake up coughing (like i am gasping for air). My chest is very sore, the pain is mostly on the left (as is the pneumonia). The cough has improved a tiny bit but it's still there and hurts. Now what do i do?
im 12 weeks pregnant and the coughing(mostly in the evenings and the morning) is so bad sometimes that it makes me throw up (ive only actually thrown up twice, but ive gagged and 'almost'thrown up a few times) ...i take benadryl-D to help me sleep and halls cough drops during the day..also tylenol when the cough gives me a headache...my question is: is there a chance my coughing could hurt the baby? and do you think its possible i might be developing bronchitis? or something along that line?
This is not a reverse sneeze, it is more like a dry hacking cough and then she will wheeze for several minutes (about 10 minutes on average). She sounds like she is in pain and she cannot breath properly during those spells. Her cough is especially prevalent during the night and morning. She will have coughing spells throughout the day as well (around once every two hour). Sometimes when she coughs a lot, she will cough up something and swallow it.
