1099201 tn?1338180918 s until I had an ultrasound of my thyroid (my sister had thyroid cancer.) I had no neck pain but sometimes felt a fullness when I swallowed. I would bring it up to your Endo and also have an ultrasound done if you haven't already. Best of luck to you!
1535467 tn?1342231670 The selenium helps with the swelling and pain in my neck (keeps the antibodies from raging so much). Magnesium helps with the muscle/joint pain.
Avatar n tn The AACE recommends to do the thyroid neck check in this case: Hold the mirror so that you can see the area of your neck just below the Adam's apple and right above the collarbone. This is the general location of your thyroid gland. Tip your head back, while keeping this view of your neck and thyroid area in your mirror. Take a drink of water and swallow. As you swallow, look at your neck.
Avatar f tn Did you have an FNA recently, Tricia? The reason I ask is because two weeks after my FNA I had neck pain on the whole left side that felt like I had whiplash and I also had a cold/sore throat. The neck pain lasted about a week and the sore throat lasted maybe 3 days. No one else seemed to think it was related to the FNA, but I couldn't figure out anything else it could be.
Avatar f tn I am taking all of the necessary tests now to be a candidate for a total thyroidectomy. All nodules are benign. Is it normal to feel pain with an enlarged thyroid? I always have this full feeling in my throat and it's very tender. Eating sometimes is a challenge. Sleeping is a nightmare! I can not get comfortable enough to sleep well. And if i talk for long periods at a time it hurts. I have one more scan to take before my head and neck surgeon gives his opinion.
Avatar m tn I am writing for my wife she has had 2 surgeries for Chiari and developed over time pain in the back of her neck when she swallows does anyone else have this problem or has anyone had this an had it fixed
Avatar m tn I seem to only feel neck pain in the right side and only when laying down on my right side and only when swallowing. Have seen a ENT and was told throat looked fine. I am thinking it could be an artery.
Avatar f tn Did you ask the doctor? I would get that but my thyroid had grown into every crevis it could in my neck. My goiter was just that way instead of growing outwards. I had some long name called hashimotos thyroiditis with nodulitis. Hopefully the doctor can do something for you, you should really stress that to the dr. I had to and they removed mine and since it grew the way it did the surgery was longer and recovery was not as good. Good luck!

Avatar f tn For the past 7 months I have been suffering from severe neck and shoulder pain, thought to be from mild DDD, fatique and swelling over clavicles near neck. What could this be? I have seen many doctors who upon examing the swelling say there is no mass there and not to worry about it. I worry about it very much, and suffer constantly in discomfort.
Avatar f tn Could on going neck injury/pain from holding phone between head and shoulder at work for almost five years and stress have any effect on your thyroid ?
Avatar f tn I have hashimotos, i have constant neck arm head and eye pain it is now traveling down my spine, i try to do yoga poses to open up the thyroid area but i feel like im choking.
Avatar n tn I am assuming that it is caused from inflammation again, but do you think my thyroid levels are off again and that is causing the pain in my neck. Is there something other than TSH that the Endo should be testing also? Thanks for your help.
Avatar n tn I am a 39-year-old female, and I have been having terrible left anterior neck pain for about 1 month. The pain seems to be close to my carotid artery and runs along the trachea. My left jaw and ear also hurt. I have been to an internal medicine and ENT doctor, and I have had an MRI and CT scan of my neck, and I was told that everything appears normal. The ENT doctor said my lymph nodes are swollen, but the MRI was normal. My thyroid is not swollen and TSH and free T4 levels are fine.
Avatar n tn I have most of the typical symptoms of Hyperthyroidism and most annoying to me is confusion and short term memory problems. I am experiencing a bit of pain on the left side of my neck as well. I am 5 feet 9 inches tall and currently weigh 290lbs. In my teens and twenties and even into my early ‘30s I was of normal weight and only gradually became obese in my late ‘30s early ‘40s. I have had great difficulty loosing weight on any diet and I do exercise regularly.
Avatar n tn so i've been experiencing some rather odd pain in the front/right side of the neck... it rather feels like somone is pushing on my throat with extreme force from the outside... and i was just curious if anything could be causing this having to deal with my thyroid? the pain comes and goes, lasting up to 5 minutes at a time. it makes me a little bit light headed and is just really annoying. when it started i'd get the sudden pain maybe once a day...
Avatar f tn Hello! I have been experiencing moderate to severe neck pain for ~3-4 months; progressively worsening. I initially thought the cause was my pillow; increased exercise; poor form during exercise, age, etc. Finally, so painful that I visited my primary care dr. thinking it was a disc problem - dr. ordered an MRI. I am also experiencing periodic burning sensation in left ring/pinkie fingers and occasional numbness along with a general clumsiness or stiffness in both hands.
666921 tn?1254990618 all I had was phone call abour MRI results. Yes I do get problems other than neck pain but do not know what pressure on nerves can cause other than pain!! Am I right in thinking that LYME can cause the arthritis? What causes the extremely stiff neck that some Lyme patients experience at on set. I presume it is muscle tension-I guess unrelenting tension in neck/shoulder area can start to impact on the skeleton by pulling etc; I haven't ruled out Lyme.
969163 tn?1281105479 Later in the day, Pain appeared in the right side of the neck around my thyroid, with shooting pain down to my clavicle. All of these places hurt greatly when pressed. Lastly, I have mild hypothroidism. Could this pain and stiffness be related to a swollen thyroid?? Or have any connection to my thyroid??
Avatar n tn Calcium isn't what causes hyperthyroidism; excess thyroid hormones cause hyperthyroidism. The parathyroids are related to calcium and most of us have 4 of them. I've never heard of them taking 3 and 3/4 of the parathyroids; typically, they don't take part of a parathyroid. They take the whole thing. Have you had your thyroid removed? If so, you'd have to be taking replacement thyroid hormones, such as Synthroid, levothyroxine, etc.
Avatar n tn hello i woke up this morning fine then about 10am i couldnt move my neck and i cant laydown and iam having pain where my throid is in my torat and it is now 10 at nightr and still cant move it
Avatar f tn I looked up what I could on Pth. Has to do with the Parathyroid glands. If it is elevated, it means you are not storing/using calcium properly. You may need to take maga doses of Vitamin D to prevent further problems. Also Magnesium was recommended for the throat/swallowing problem. Hope this helps some.
Avatar m tn Shortness of breath can be a hypo symptom - I had it pretty bad when I was very hypo, but I don't believe the pain in the left arm, heaviness in the legs are thyroid related. Neck and jaw "maybe", but only if there were large goiter pressing on something essential, in which case that, most likely, would be felt/visible from the outside. IMO - other things need to be checked out. Hashimoto's doesn't cause the symptoms -- resulting hypo does.
