Common Questions and Answers about Pain neck sleeping

pain

Done it that way before too, Doesn't always work the same way. I have used a heating pad and it does help me, the pain in my neck is where is helps and it takes a while for me to drift me off. Thanks!
Last night I had severe upper back pains that shot across my left shoulder and neck. I had a long day yesterday riding in the car over 6 hours. I also had to sit in a waiting room for a long time with my husband for his dr. appt. I always have a lot of back and shoulder pain when I ride in a car. I hadn't slept very well the last few days so I took and ambien and a sleeping pill along with a pain pill to sleep. I finally slept a few hours that made me feel better this morning.
I also get a aching tight pain into my right underarm pit and what feels to be under my right breast. The pain in the neck never really goes away. The pain in my neck goes up into the back right side of my head, and face, and sometimes feels like a burning spot in the lower right side of the head. I have aslo been getting alot of pain in my right shoulder blade along the spine side and callor bone.
I also have a long neck. During the day I do have some neck pain, but it's not really that bad (it used to be so bad but I fixed it with physical therapy). I also use hot and cold packs which fix my neck during the day, if needed. I also broke my arm when I was younger and was supposed to get an additional surgery that I never went for-I doubt this is connected. Also one shoulder is very slightly higher than the other (the higher shoulder is the side that hurts more when sleeping).
I still get a lot of neck pain and my midwife said it's all normal. So, it may be from pregnancy or changing your sleeping positions. I'm 22 weeks along and I am still sleeping on my stomach! It's the only way I can fall asleep.
Have you been sleeping more on your left side than normal??
I have neck pain so back that it is hard to feel comfortable sleeping. What is the best thing I can do to relieve my pain?
I have had a severe pain in my left neck, mostly right under and below my skull for over 2 weeks now. It hurts so bad I am unable to roll over in bed or lift my head when getting out of bed. It is eased by sleeping in an almost upright position, but every time I lie down, the pain returns and does not go away. I am 7 wks pregnant and cannot take meds other than Tylenol, which is not helping. I have tried ice and heat, but with little effect. Any ideas of the cause?

I don't want to go through all of that again. What is making my neck go WRY? A physical therapist at work said sleeping under a ceiling fan. Any thoughts?
Go to YouTube looking for exercises for neck pain. Get referred to a physical therapist if this doesn't resolve.
I do not know if the pain is normal but, I had TT on 11/16. Pryer to surgery I did experiance pain on the side that was affected. Since surgery, I have not been troubled with the same pain. If you do as well as I have post-op you will be fine.
I have had a constant neck ache for about 3 weeks now. It is worse while sleeping and arising in the morning. Eventually through the day, it feels better (but not healed). I have tried different sleeping positions but nothing has helped. Of course this is just one of the mysteries that we all experience with MS. Maybe it's not MS related at all.

I am having a lot of pain on the left side of my neck accompanied with weakness in my left hand. Every now and then will get a headache, but mostly in the middle of the night. I was wondering if anyone knows the symptoms associated with brain tumors and how fast one can grow. I had a CT scan done 14 months ago and was just wondering if symptoms would already show if I had one.
I have continual chronic pain in my neck when lying down. It is in the back of my neck and feels like I'm sleeping on a sharp rock that keeps poking me and attacks the areas around my neck. I've been through physical therapy five times. I've had acupuncture once. Could this be due to the sciatic nerve from a herniated disc I have at the L5 S1 lumbar spine. This nerve has caused me pain down my left leg with stinging and numbing tingling if I stand, lift or walk too long. I need sleep.
for the past few weeks I have had neck pain where my spine is located. I have also had pain in both arms from the shoulder to the elbow, but more so in the right arm. I also have pain at the top of my right leg. It hurts more when I first stand, but lessens as I walk. The pain in my neck is constant...its like a stiff neck. The arm sometimes has shooting pain, but mostly when I turn it a certain way.I also have slight pain in my lower back and sides but nothing like the other pain.
For the past week or so I've been having some upper back pain, along with terrible neck pains at night, like my neck is going to fall off, I also get headaches about every other day!! I know that I am a terrible sloucher, could this be from poor posture? or something more serious?!

Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! In all probability this is neck stiffness due to wrong sleeping posture. Other than that it can be occipital neuralgia which results from compression of higher cervical vertebral nerves. It can also be due to an inflamed carotid artery or jugular vein. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage without examining. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper investigations and referral. Hope this helps. Take care!

Dear all am getting neck pain last one week.. am age of 28 and am software professional..
But then I wake up this morning and the whole back of my neck is in pain, and I cant stretch it or touch it without pain. And it comes with verry annoying pains in both temples and ears and behind my eyes as well. And thats not the worst part, my shoulders both are in pain when I move them, or lift things. All the way down to the palms of my hands, and then when I change sleeping positions at night, my hips hurt the same way and all the way down to my feet ..
Without medication pain level is above 10, after medication pain level is 9. My pain is so severe that it appears to lock the turning of my neck to the right. I am asking for any help regarding if there is exercises for this type of problem. My mornings after waking are the worse for me. I have been sleeping with 2 pillows under my legs, flat on my back, and 1 pillow under my head but this doesn't seem to be helping either. Is there any help for me?
About 3 or 4 days ago I started getting pain starting on both sides of my neck, starting at my jaw line. It radiates down and into my shoulders. It's a kind of burning pain. Don't take any medications. When it happens it lasts a few minutes then stops but usually starts again right away, then stops totally.
The posture of the neck (for example, do you like me, have a forward thrust to your neck?) can cause pain also. I'm sorry the chiro made it worse! Have they taken any pictures of your neck to see if the discs, etc. are alright? If not, with a dull ache, I hope someone will do that! I hope on a temporary basis, you can find something to help with your emotional distress during this post natal period so you might feel better.
And it got a little better about two weeks ago and then I woke up one day last week and it's way worse!!! Every time I move my neck it hurts. When I turn it to the side, Its a pretty sharp pain about an 8 out of ten that shoots all the way from the top to bottom. Letting my head lay straight down doesn't really hurt. Turning it in any way or putting it back hurts. Sleeping hurts. And I never rallied how much Swoosh my head to move my bangs until recently, when it started to hurt.
