Avatar f tn I get a weird feeling in the back of the rounded part of my head. I know my brain can't feel itself, but I get odd sensations of vibration and tingling there. It's not usually painful, but it's distracting and unusual. I try to exercise regularly. Usually it is a low start, but once I get going I think that it does help a lot with my inflammation.
Avatar f tn For around 30 years I have suffered from occasional flare ups of pain in the back of my head, always on the left side. I have been to numerous doctors, chiropractors, physical therapy, and taken lots of pain meds but nothing helps. The flare up usually starts as a twinge and by the end of 1 wk is full blown pain that lasts another 1 -2 wks. I try heat, ice, rubs, you name it and nothing helps. I believe it is some kind of nerve pain as it is somewhat like shingle pain but no rash.
Avatar n tn In the back of my neck where the top of my neck meets the back of my head, I have a lingering pain. I also feel pain in he top of my pac and around my shoulderblades. I get tingling pains in my fingers and tensing feelings in my arms. I also feel pain in my forearms of tingling and tightening. The final place there is pain I worry about is above my ears on each side. The tingling pains in my hands are mostly at the tips or index finger. I can also feel it in my legs. What could this be?
Avatar f tn I went to the Dr yesterday. He asked me to do neck stretches every day and to take IBprofen.......he thinks I have pulled muscles. (they took my blood to test for infection) I hope it will go away soon, like I said, the head pain itself is better since I relaxed my jaw. Now I just have to heal my neck/shoulders.

I have constant head pain...The worse part is...no one can give me an explanation for this....

Mostly, these symptoms aggravate after turning head and typically occur in patients with previous neck injuries and in patients with marked arthritis of the upper cervical spine.

Avatar f tn Hi, this could be occipital neuralgia, lesion of occipital nerve causing pain at the back of head. “Occipital neuralgia is caused by damage to these nerves. Ways in which they can be damaged include trauma (usually concussive), physical stress on the nerve, repetitious neck contraction, flexion or extension, and as a result of medical complications.” Taken from http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar f tn The pain is very intense for the first few seconds, blurring my vision, then fades over a period of about 10 minutes. It occours above my neck and behind my ears, beside the squishy part of skull on the back. When this happens, I also feel a warm and tingly sensation in my ears and often hear ringing. I'm an 18 year old, healthy girl and have never had serious health problems, but this continues to worry me.

Avatar n tn I've had some pain in the back of my head, and my chirpractor/holistic doctor discovered that my C-1 disk (a.k.a. Atlas) was subluxated. That means the soft tissues of my neck are not holding it exactly in place where it needs to be, due to tight muscles from computing and tension and sleeping wrong. When he adjusts it the pain goes away. It is not likely related to the trigeminal nerve at all. That is the facial nerve that controls your ability to make facial expressions.
Avatar f tn Your brain (stem) can not feel pain. It has no pain receptors. The back of your head is a different issue. The occipital nerves provide feeling to the back of your head and upper neck. Occipital neuritis is pretty common with MS.

Avatar n tn I have a muscle that goes from the back of my head to the bottom of my right shoulder blade that is hurting. I have had this pain for almost 2 weeks now and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. It makes it hard to sleep, work and what hurts the most is driving. Every time I turn my head from left to right or up or down it sends a sharp pain all through my shoulder. I would like to know what I can do to help with the pain until it gets better.
Avatar f tn For the last week I have been experiencing dull pain behind my right ear and back of head. This pain will also move to the top of my head. It is much worse at night. There are times during the day that it is almost gone but comes back for no apparent reason.I also have a very sore spot on the right side at the base ofmy neck. I did have cervical fusion on C 5-6-7 about 2-1/2 years ago. OTC meds do not help. Thank you for any suggestion. My GP does not know what causes it.
