Avatar n tn Hi, The most common cause of throbbing neck pain on one side is Carotidynia . Carotidynia is a common neck pain syndrome characterised by dull, throbbing, localized pain over the carotid artery bifurcation, but may radiate to the mandible (jaw), cheek, eye, or ear on one side .The causes are Carotid artery aneurysm ,Cranial arteritis , Infection , Carotid artery occlusion . Please go for an MRI or arteriography to rule out the condition .
Avatar f tn Sitting too long in one posture to read or at computes can cause neck strain and pinched nerves in neck which can also cause similar symptoms. Hence, improve your posture and see. Do neck exercises. Apply local analgesic cream or take pain killer by mouth. If all the above measures do not help you, then please consult a doctor. Hope this helps. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar n tn I am a 39-year-old female, and I have been having terrible left anterior neck pain for about 1 month. The pain seems to be close to my carotid artery and runs along the trachea. My left jaw and ear also hurt. I have been to an internal medicine and ENT doctor, and I have had an MRI and CT scan of my neck, and I was told that everything appears normal. The ENT doctor said my lymph nodes are swollen, but the MRI was normal. My thyroid is not swollen and TSH and free T4 levels are fine.
Avatar f tn at the bifurcation of the left carotid artery You must probably be having CAROIDYNIA (it is a form of vascular neck and face pain in which the vascular change occurs in the carotid artery in the neck). This can be treated with the prophylactic medicines used to treat migraine. Any doubts you are welcome.

1300754 tn?1273845780 I have been having for about 6 months pain on my right side of my neck, where it gets very intense! Sometimes it feels like a straight line down to my shoulder & chest. After doing research on carotid arteries it states there is NO SYMPTOMS! But i have read all the posts here which it seems everyone is having pain.
Avatar f tn Your symptoms too do not look like involving carotid artery. A throbbing pulsing pain in the ear can be due to fluid in the ear or middle ear infection called otitis media. This can cause severe pain in the era, radiating to the neck too. Another possibility is caries tooth which can cause pain in both ear and neck. The third possibility is wry neck Hope this helps. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor and parents.
Avatar f tn Carotidynia usually refers to neck pain arising from the carotid artery in the anterior cervical triangle. Pain in the carotid artery may be caused by various pathologic processes, such as arteritis, dissection of the carotid artery, thrombosis, aneurysm, or direct trauma to the artery. If your doctor who has examined the neck is suspecting carotidynia or carotid artery inflammation, then you should get a MRI neck or MRA of the carotid artery to confirm the diagnosis. Hope it helps.
Avatar n tn m getting scared. I lose balance get bad pain up my neck and have bouts with vertigo. The pain in my neck feels like rushing to my head(I think it's blood) I think it is some kind of impingement in the vetebral artery. I turn my neck and sometimes feel the rush. Avatar f tn About a month ago I started having neck pain along my carotid artery, I have full range of motion and no muscle ache, just a squeezing or throbbing pain from my clavicle up the side of my neck behind my ear, the side of my head, and under my jaw. The pain can be quite severe, I don't have any swelling. It's tender to the touch, and I can't lay on the side it hurts. Within a few minutes of trying to lay on that side my head and neck start throbbing and squeezing in pain.
Avatar n tn She was very fortunate that all that really is troubling her is her speech and thought process. My question is about pain in her neck past two days. She says it hurts on left side, not like a stiff neck but actually hurts. Is this something to be concerned about?
Avatar m tn As for chest pain, a dull ache usually directly behind the sternum(breast-bone) which radiates or travels down the left arm and also up the neck and jaw with sweating, nausea, pain between the shoulder blades being symptoms of a heart-attack(AMI). If you have these symptoms- go to the emergency room.
Avatar n tn Stimulation of the internal carotid artery causes pain along the artery that is sometimes accompanied by pain in the eye and parietal cephalalgia. These symptoms can result in wrong diagnoses, such as cluster headache or migraine. Symptoms may also include aphasia, sight disturbances, weakness or even syncope episodes. Stimulation of the external carotid artery causes facial pain, mainly in the area under the eyes.
Avatar f tn My head was at an angle and my chin was inward towards my the front of my neck on the right. I coughed again and I felt pain on my neck. The corner of my jaw had hit my neck. It felt like it hit a vein but I'm not sure. I've been cautious about touching my neck too hard due to what I read about the carotid artery and how people have gotten strokes and arrhythmia from touching it too forcefully.
Avatar f tn Can you tell me the symptoms of twisted arteries in the neck area. I believe I have this problem. For 30 years I been having the pinching feeling in my neck on and off. Now that I'm older I been having this pressure in my neck with the same pinching feeling. I now have pressure in my right ear. I did see two ENT Doctors and both told me its not related to my ears. I also have this balance problem for the last 10 years. I do not have vertigo.
Avatar f tn t have any experience with artery problems and or symptoms. Neck pain I do, imo it could be something as simple as a pulled muscle or since u did mention pain traveling down the arm, a pinched nerve. Might be a disc bulge or a bone spur pressing on one of the nerves, and yes I know it can be very painful, I've experienced it first hand. Regardless, u need to get in an see someone, have some imaging studies done and find out what exactly whats causing the problem.
Avatar n tn I have had pain for 12 years. This pain is in the carotid artery area of the neck and in the cheek / upper right dental area. I also get occasional pain in the back of the neck. I get a lot of inflamation now...under my right arm...my neck...my cheek even down to my entrie right side inflamation increases depending on what I eat. Avatar m tn 2) For the last 3 weeks, my neck also hurts on the opposite side of the ICAD (right). The pain on the right side is very similar to the pain on the ICAD side in that hurts both in the side and the back of the neck. 3) I sometimes have a feeling as if someone is choking me - there seems to be pressure across the front of my neck but I can still breathe. 4) I can sometimes hear and feel what sounds like tiny bubbles ascending the back of my neck.
Avatar m tn M25, do smoke. For the past week now I've had this mild sharp shooting pain in the right artery (area) of my neck, it sort of comes and goes every few hours, I can't pinpoint it to a nerve issue as it's literally a feeling on the right front side of my neck and it just doesn't feel healthy. I am a bit concerned it might be some sort of minor clot. Look through my post history I have had similar issues, and have been seen by a doctor and also the ER staff several months ago.
Avatar f tn Three weeks ago I had the same kind of head and neck pain and was diagnosed with a right internal carotid artery dissection, extracranial. No stroke. I am now on full strength aspirin, probably for life. Both dissections involved tremendous pain and I'm still recovering right now. I spent some time in the hospital for both but was not really given much information other than this is rare. I'm now going to have an autoimmune disease work up.
