pacemaker

Avatar n tn I don't believe a pacemaker is used to control AFib. Perhaps your father has other heart problems. The most common use for a pacemaker is to keep the heart from beating too slow, or stopping. Some times a PM is used when the heart electrical system has to be totally shut down, in which case there would be no AFib or other arrhythmia, but this is not done to my knowledge, to control AFib.
1569985 tn?1328247482 This mode is used to protect against a heart stop in people with Bradycardia (a too slow HR)... there may be other uses. The pacemaker can also be used in a heart that has had its sinus node (maybe more, don't remember) ablated (put out of service). In this case the pacemaker provides the only beat signal to the heart, the patient is fully dependent on the pacemaker to keep the heart beating.
Avatar n tn Need an upgraded pacemaker? Pacemaker recall? What kind and what brand of your pacemaker? Do you have the serial number? You can directly contact the producer and find out why? Mine is St Jude and implanted in 2002. Still got 3 years to go. Once stage they said all the professional needed to download a programme because it reading the battery life in error. The programme in error but NOT the pacemaker itself. http://www.medscape.

Avatar m tn ll offer the following. 100% pacemaker dependent says to me one has to be very careful about protecting the pacemaker and its ability to run (battery, other?). We are all dependent on our heart beating or face sudden death. For those pacemaker dependent that means (to me) the pacemaker has to keep running. If you have not been given detailed instructions on what to watch out for or stay away from you should seek this information from the professional who installed/prescribed the pacemaker.
Avatar f tn Not only was this in 2005, but this was for an external pacemaker which is used for a few days in the hospital. The leads are generally removed before the person leaves the hospital, but one of mine could not be removed. It is dangerous to forse it, so in a case like that they just leave it in. In any case, I am sure that even today they do not use those new special leads for a temporary external pacemaker.
Avatar m tn I would wonder if it could be rebound anxiety. Known to happen when you come off various types of medication. Bit like an aftershock after an earthquake. Can occur for a short period of time. Talking maybe two to three weeks. Having the pacemaker wouldn't help any. I think that would make you a bit more nervous. My late father had one and used to always say his stopped. He used to hit his chest and say ' working again '. What an idiot. ( LOL ) Bless him. Any roads.
Avatar m tn m not an expert on pacemakers, but I do not believe they are used to control tachycardia, rather they are used for cases of bradycardia and heart conditions in which the heart stops for periods of time. I also don't understand you question about sleeping pills. All your questions are best asked of the prescribing doctor(s).
Avatar n tn In August this year I had a pacemaker implanted (3 lead MEDTRONIC C2TRO1) The rate was set at 90 and although relieved that I would not go out of sinus I did not feel well, suffering insomnia, short of breath with almost any sort of exercise. I went last week for my 6 weeks check up and the rate was set at 75. This has improved my awareness of the heart beating but I do not sleep much better, am very tired and a small flight of stairs means that I an beating around 87. Can the rate be lowered?
Avatar m tn A pacemaker is a small device that sends electrical impulses to the heart muscle to maintain a suitable heart rate and rhythm. A pacemaker may also be used to treat fainting spells (syncope), congestive heart failure, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. A pacemaker implant is more for assurance of good, normal heartbeat than a remedy for heart failure.
Avatar f tn was a runner up to age 67, when atrail fibrillation put a stop to that. I still do not have a pacemaker, but it could be used if my atrial fibrillation gets out of control now achieved with medication. Again, your son's age says look for the most permanent-fix possible. The pacemaker technology continues to improve and whatever its shortcomings and risks, I believe they few and low, respectively.
Avatar f tn no. 84 is not high, it's only generally if it gets to over 100 at rest that tachycardia is diagnosed. As long as his heart rate is stable and there are no rhythm problems, then there is certainly no requirement for a pacemaker.
Avatar m tn Arc welding with a pacemaker. Is there any protection? This discussion is related to Pacemaker and protective devices while welding.....
Avatar n tn Doctors tell us heart arrythmia may be cause - EKG confirms that her heart slows/stops. Pacemaker is recommended. Our issue is that she is very frail and weakened - unable to support herself or walk even with walker. She states "I am ready to go." Will pacemaker help her do better in rehab and maybe go back to her ACLF (independent apartment) or at least assisted living? Is she likley to regain function lost due to recent fall?
Avatar f tn What's interesting about the acupuncture/gastroparesis 'connection' is the gastric pacemaker is partially based on the principle of the acupuncture points that are used to help treat symptoms of gastroparesis by acupuncturists. There are two specific acupuncture points that relay to specific areas in the stomach and the acupuncture points are known to help stimulate digestive motor movements.

2073485 tn?1331662298 Sometimes i can be watching tv, or laying down or just standing and i get this shock like pain near my left breast (which is wear the pacemaker is). Is it possible to feel the pacemaker sending electrical signals to the heart? Does anybody else experience this? Thank you!!
Avatar f tn I am 25 years old. I have a a pacemaker for 24 years. My current pacemaker is located on my left side just below my rib cage. I want children. I am afraid that the placement of it will become an issue if I am pregnant. I am on day 37 of my cycle, it usually is an average of 30 days long. Although this past 2 years have been very unusal for my cycle. In the begining of last year I used to get period and then bleed again 2 weeks after I got it. This happened until Sept.
Avatar n tn Hello -- I have a two-lead ICD for HCM and then had a septal myectomy. The surgery decreased my risk, but also left me with complete heart block. So, when the ICD wears out, I'll switch to a pacemaker in the generator changeout. My question: can I keep my leads stay intact, with the high-voltage lead in my right ventricle simply being used as a second pacemaker lead?
Avatar m tn I agree - it's probably your pacemaker that isn't programmed right. Note however - that your pacemaker only will work taking care of bradycardia. Your tachycardia events must be treated with beta blockers or other antiarrhythmic drugs. Though, with a pacemaker installed, medications may be used more aggressively, as there's no risk of bradycardia present.
Avatar f tn I suspect that I have sleep apnea although have not been tested for it or even discussed it with my doctor. I've had a pacemaker for almost 3 years. Should the pacemaker keep me going or is this something that I really should discuss with my doctor?
