pacemaker

Avatar f tn and have an effective radiated power exceeding 1 Watt. This is a far greater power level than the power emitted from Bluetooth devices. I'm curious if you have ever been warned about these devices?
Avatar f tn Pacemaker batteries will not run out unexpectedly. When a battery is running low, the elective replacement indicator (ERI) is activated. Physicians can detect this activation during a routine office visit. In addition, the battery status and the general functioning of the pacemaker can be tested over the telephone. This is generally done every one to two months.
Avatar f tn To remove the pacemaker itself isn't difficult. They make a small incision like the first time, remove the pacemaker and disconnect the leads, clean out the "pocket" and close things up. Or they can connect a new one before they sew you up again. If they also want to remove the leads, that's another story. The leads become rather embedded in the heart tissue and they don't simply slide out like unplugging the toaster.
Avatar n tn She has to be careful to know what to avoid with having a pacemaker. High power lines can actually cause the pacemaker to stop working and then she would need to get another one.
Avatar m tn ll offer the following. 100% pacemaker dependent says to me one has to be very careful about protecting the pacemaker and its ability to run (battery, other?). We are all dependent on our heart beating or face sudden death. For those pacemaker dependent that means (to me) the pacemaker has to keep running. If you have not been given detailed instructions on what to watch out for or stay away from you should seek this information from the professional who installed/prescribed the pacemaker.
329165 tn?1515471990 You got power in Pretoria today? Apart from a bit of a flood yesterday, we in Jo'burg have had power ALL DAY LONG. I sleep with oxygen at night and the o2 machine lets out a terrible screech with there's a power failure, nearly does my heart in every time, but then my pacemaker kicks in and I'm fine again - see, pacemakers are good things after all and they don't rely on Eskom to keep them powered!
Avatar n tn when they went in to replace that lead they found the other lead off, they also found a black oily substance on my pacemaker. the pacemaker company was called, they told the dr to replace it free of charge. we have no idea what the substance was. the dr said he had never seen anything like it. we are waiting to hear from the company. since then i have been hospitalized twice, because my heart feels like it is skipping beats. now i have facial and neck swelling.
Avatar f tn My partner has Dialated Cardiomyopathy, his heart is currently in afib, he has a defib/pacemaker, type 2 diabetes, kidneys aren’t functioning well & has peripheral neuropathy. He is currently in the hospital and the docs have him on dobutamine and will try and flush him with extra lasix. Just looking to see if there is anyone else in the same boat that he can talk to? Any help would be really appreciated!
Avatar f tn Has anyone out there had a pacemaker implanted because the beta blocker, in my case atenolol, makes their bp and pulse too low? Thanks.
Avatar n tn This seems like a very difficult situation for you and your family. The best way to begin addressing this question is to ask your cardiologist whether your mother is "pacemaker dependent" or not. Pacemaker dependent means that the heart is reliant on the pacemaker, and without it, the heart cannot pump fast enough to meet the demands of the body. (There are others who need the pacemaker infrequently as a "back-up", for the rare times when the heart rate slows down).
Avatar m tn Hi Doctor, My bro aged 21 recently jus joined army force as regular, physical fit in average, not really stressful workout in camp as he's a military police. During 1 week ago, he went for full medical check up in camp & founded out by MO his HR is only 36/min. Immediately warded to hospital. 24hour EKG, worst result during resting was 26/min.
Avatar n tn We are in the same boat/I am 59 post CAD AWMI LV dysfunction EF 28% .Currently suffering from sinus bradycardia(a rhythm disturbance) I have been advised pace maker surgery and follow ups. However I am deviating from it and trying out Siddha-Ayurvedic regimen to combat my ailment. The results are not yet evaluated.Yet I feel that there is much scope in Ayurvdic treatment.
Avatar m tn Hi - my husband had a dual chamber pacemaker implanted 4 days ago for Sick Sinus Syndrome (with 2 to 4 second pauses) and Atrial Fibrillation. After the procedure, the surgeon indicated that it was difficult to position the atrial lead due to mild cardiomegaly and it dislodged within the first 24 hours. The electrophysiologist deactivated the atrial lead explaining that it targeted Atrial Fib and was primarily for quality of life, whereas the ventricle lead targeted bradycardia and pauses.
1507741 tn?1290022955 I have been living for 14 months with complete Heart ablation 100% reliant on pacemaker. Doc says I need a new unit (AICD) apparently with defibulator. my question is, Does it hurt alot when a defibulator kicks in?
Avatar n tn My father aged 100 has decided not to replace his pacemaker battery and in September was told he had 3 months life left in it. To date is is almost 4 months - can anyone give me the symptoms he will experience when the battery starts to wind down - will death be immediate or slow? He has no underlying heart rythym - can the doctors be wrong when they give this diagnosis? Currently there are no obvious signs of failure.
Avatar f tn You sound like a very compassionate person who has gone through a lot. Perhaps you can help me. I am 53 with a heart pacemaker and a bladder pacemaker due to a neurogenic bladder. I have NO signal from the brain to the sacral nerve to stimulate my bladder to contract. That's taken care of now with the device. My symptoms began 3 years ago. I've have numerous EMG's, etc. over the years--all negative.
Avatar f tn Resting pulse was 125bpm, shot up to 140 the moment I stood up, this is the upper limit on my pacemaker. The oddest thing is that I just had a cup of coffee - I very very seldom drink anything with caffeine as I have an average pulse rate of 110bpm, but since I had the coffee my pulse has slowed down to 113bpm. It seems very odd as I'd expect it to increase my heart beat, not slow it down.
Avatar n tn I assume you are referring to the risks involved with the pacemaker. You should be aware of your surrondings and devices that may interfere with the pulse generation. Because it is pulse generation, interference can cause irreguar heartbeats that could be serious.
220090 tn?1379167187 one night we were having dinner and a gust hit the boat so hard that we heeled over as if we had a sail up! No damage, but unnerving to say the least. The winds have been light for the past couple of days and are predicted to stay that way until the weekend. All the cruising boats planning to head south wait for a “weather window”: a favorable forecast for an ocean passage.
Avatar n tn after the completion of around 12 months i developed bradycardia resulting in the installation of a pace maker in end july 2008. Ever since the fixing of the pacemaker my pulse rates are now regulairized between 70 and 130 . since installation of the pacemaker I am continously suffering from a heavy head 24 X 7 with a nausea feeling and discomfort in the head and shoulder region. I am also feeling very week and lethargic. if any one can provide an answer to my problem i will be obliged.
Avatar f tn I, too, ruminated over the finality of it all. I was on a boat load of meds (tikyson, diltiazem, atenolol) and they were not doing the trick. I already had a pacer so it did not have to endure that part of the procedure. When I finally made the decision, I was ready to proceed. I am glad I had it done as it has cut down on the recurrent AFib by quite a lot. I feel so much better. Life on a battery is not bad at all. I went to a large teaching hospital 2.5 hrs away for all of my work.
Avatar f tn I still have AFib but I am not on any meds except for coumadin. Previously I was on a boat load of meds including Tikosyn. The pacer reegulates your heart and you are not reaching those high rates any more. That is such a great feeling to be in NSR for sustained periods of time. I am due to have my pacer switched in 6 weeks as as the generator is low on power. I am looking forward to the new pacer model as they continuously make improvements (maybe the new one will come with a GPS..
148588 tn?1465778809 https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/07/power-causes-brain-damage/528711/ " ..... The historian Henry Adams was being metaphorical, not medical, when he described power as “a sort of tumor that ends by killing the victim’s sympathies.” But that’s not far from where Dacher Keltner, a psychology professor at UC Berkeley, ended up after years of lab and field experiments.
518798 tn?1295212279 Is it just me, or have you guys noticed that when you give someone just a little authority, it totally goes to their head and they get on a major power trip? I encounter people all the time who are given just a little bit of control over something and they feel like God. This is something that really bothers me. I try to treat people with the respect they deserve, but sometimes they make it really difficult.
Avatar f tn However these heart rhythm have been recorded on an ecg. Where can I go from here? Anyone else the same boat? Please help, I am desperate to get something done as I cannot work like this. Thank you...............
