Avatar n tn Vw, what type of surgery did he have when the stomach removal was performed? Different forms of the surgery to correct severe ulcerations can result in different forms of problems.
564032 tn?1216312671 I have a friend that is having to undergo stomach removal because she can not afford the $50,000.00 fee to get a pacemaker placed. Her insurance or medicaid will not pay for the pacemaker. I have heard that the life expectancy for a stomach removal is not very long. My friend is like a mother to me and she is way to young to die! There is not alot of time left before her surgery and I am trying to find out what I can do to help her.
Avatar m tn I realize that the pacemaker itself is a fairly simple procedure, however, as I am only 38, I will definitely need replacement leads over time, and the risk factor of lead removal surgery has me quite frightened. Most of the data available for CCHB is either old or hard to find. It seems that pacing is suggested in nearly every case especially with increasing age. These days when infants are born with this they are immediately paced...
Avatar f tn I have a pacer, and agree with ireneo, pacemaker (generator) removal is pretty straight-forward, but removing the leads would like pulling a fishhook out of your heart muscle.
1835862 tn?1318373061 Removal is not always legally possible. For example, if the atrial pacemaker is not functioning, removal of the implant could result in death. Discuss this openly with your physician. The case for implanting a pacemaker is sometimes absolutely clear-cut and in other cases more of a precautionary procedure.
Avatar n tn To my knowledge, the closest point to skin level of wires of a pacemaker it is just in the union with the pacemaker itself, therefore the easy thing it is just to detach them and leave them inside the pacemaker pocket. Why to cut them?. Now some of those wires are quite long and some surgeons roll them in circles to shorten them. At least theoretically, if there are a few circles and he is close to any electro magnetic field some current can be generated by induction producing a zap.
Avatar n tn I would recommend you get more testing done on your intestines and trying more conventional treatments before resorting to something involving surgery like a colonic pacemaker.
Avatar m tn org/wiki/Endocarditis Yes surgical removal of pacemaker is the mainstay treatment in pacemaker induced endocarditis with intravenous antibiotics. http://www.chestjournal.org/cgi/content/abstract/124/4/1451 Please keep us posted. All the best!
Avatar f tn My pacemaker battery had been dead for over a year and a half, and I just now was told that the pacemaker will have to be removed because it can damage the heart if it doesn't have a battery. Is this true? Incidentally, my pacemaker had not been activated for several years, as it was set for the minimum and didn't ever have to kick in.
Avatar f tn At 83, it's really hard to say if the benefits would outweigh the risks, unless, of course, you're family enjoys longevity past the 80's. The implantation of an ICD is pretty simple, and the rehab is pretty short. The main problem with the new implant is keeping a patient from pulling the wires loose before they have had a chance to heal into the wall of heart.

Avatar n tn The left lung is well-aerated with no definite nodule or mass. There are mild to moderate emphysematous changes. A left transvenous pacemaker is in place. Mutichamber cardiomegaly.

Avatar f tn My mother had her pacemaker replaced in March 09 She went for a pacemaker check today. She has had arrhytmias the past several months so she has an appt next week to see her doc. Avatar m tn The pain associated with an implanted pacemaker may be musculoskeletal or nerve related. Most likely related to the minor surgery required for insertion of the pacemaker. This type of pain related to the incision should heal within weeks. If you have persistent chest pain at the site of the pacemaker, it might be reasonable to see your doctor so that possible causes can be evaluated.
Avatar m tn I recently had a pacemaker installed due to heart block. Prior to the surgery I experienced no symptoms. No fatigue or lightheadedness, in fact I didn't even know there was a problem until the EKG. Since the surgery, I am so fatigued and have a pins and needles feeling in my head and neck. Last week I was told that the top portion of the pacemaker was not working, but that I didn't need it.
Avatar f tn My grandmother had her pacemaker implanted 1 week ago. Is it normal for the area to be bruised, a purple color? She is also experiencing a burning sensation around the area. She is 84 years old and before she had the surgery she was able to walk fine and now she walks a little and she feels very tired and she says she feels like her heart is beating really fast and it might even come out.

Avatar n tn I am a 30 yr old mother of 3 with a pacemaker. I have had the pacemaker for 3 years in July. It was originally placed because of a severe problem with fainting. My heart was stopping for nearly 50 seconds(documented) during these syncope episodes. The pacemaker has basically cured this problem. At my last visit they said it was working 25% of the time. Whatever that means. But now the pacemaker unit has shifted for the second time.
