pacemaker

Avatar f tn My mother had her pacemaker replaced in March 09 She went for a pacemaker check today. She has had arrhytmias the past several months so she has an appt next week to see her doc. What causes arrhytmias even when you have a pacemaker. Is this normal? Pacemakers are supposed to treat this, right?
Avatar n tn It is not posible to determine if a pacemaker is warranted without more information, but medication can be beneficial for arrhythmia. If RBBB is not controled with medication, then ablation (destroy unnecessary electrical pathways) is an option. That can be accomplished with cath...intervention but not surgery.
Avatar f tn Hi on 10/13/08 my mother had a pacemaker placed because her HR was 27 bpm. After the surgery she has been dizzy, confused and forgets thing, depress, emotional. She has not been back to work yet because she is a medication nurse. We have had a EEG, CAT Scan done and nothing has shown up. Where do we go from here? I was also wondering can the pacemaker be set to high they have it set at 60 bpm.? They are trying to tell us that it might be her inner ear I do not believe it.
Avatar m tn metoprolol is a beta blocker class of medication which works by limiting the activity of the heart muscle. There are beta receptors on your heart which react to stimulants such as Adrenaline, telling the heart to speed up. This medication (depending on dosage for effect) decreases the ability of those receptors. So if you are on beta blockers and a Lion jumped into the room, my heart would get to racing pace quicker than yours.
Avatar n tn High reading has been 204/189 to a low of 157/94. He also has a pacemaker. Is it possible that the pacemaker simply needs recalabrating?

Avatar m tn t with his left arm... the side the pacemaker is on. He recently had a sharp pain in his chest where the pacemaker is due to overdoing. Being a minister, he was talking about societies issues and had another severe sharp pain in the same area. I told him he should stay calm and keep things light. I am guessing if he follows Doctors orders he may not have the pain?
Avatar m tn that could have been utilized instead of a pacemaker? 5) Should I have been given an antibiotic after the surgery or is it normal practice to not prescribe one? 6) Should I feel the pacemaker when it kicks in? 7) Currently, my pacemaker is set at 40 and has kicked in less than 20% of the time. Is that normal? 8) I have read on internet that septic shock reaccurs. How likely is this?
Avatar n tn But the pacemaker might allow him to survive the surgery.....however implanting the pacemaker is a risk in itself! Quite a lot of older dogs go through surgery ok. But it depends on what surgery, and it depends on their overall condition for their age. I they are generally well, the risks are greatly lessened. It sounds as if he is in quite bad shape. In my opinion, the worst-case scenario would be that he didn't survive the surgery.
Avatar f tn A week later I was released with 7 medications and a LifeVest with plans to get a pacemaker after the 1st of the year. The heart failure team and cardiology team want to try a pacemaker before looking for a new heart. I pray the pacemaker works wonder. Anyone else with an EF below 15% and have been able to make improvements to increase your EF? If so, what has worked for you?
Avatar n tn I had a spinal fusion with instrumentation when I was 2 years ago for scoliosis. About 6 months after my surgery I started to have constipation and from then on it just stopped all together. I started seeing a specialist and was diagnosed with gastritis, esophagitis, slight signs of barrets esophagus. After many tests and many medications, I had a colonic motility study done showing that my colon does not move at all.

Avatar m tn They decided it would be best to do the dual pacemaker. I was admitted the day before my surgery as I was very sick. During that time I was put back on the halter monitor to where there were episodes of my heart stopping for 9-12 seconds at a time. I am assuming when he says stopping this meant completely as he said I was flat lined for that period of time.
Avatar m tn On Aug. 7, 2009 I had a dual chamber, rate adaptive pacemaker implanted. The surgery was successful, but I became hypertensive within 12 hours after the implant with a reading of 160+/80 which rose to 203/93. I was given medication to reduce my blood pressure which did eventually drop to about 145/75 . I was discharged and prescribed 10 mg. of Lisinopril daily. However, my bp has remained high at 177-155/93-74. Before the implant it was 140-125/70-62.
Avatar m tn m beginning to wonder whether these headaches are associated with a side effect of the pacemaker, surgery or a medication that was/is used during/after having a surgical implant. I'm going to continuing looking for research articles on this matter, but if you have already found them and know the answer, I would love to know. Thank you!
Avatar f tn t usually a big reason for pacemaker implantation). The treatment options for these anomalies include antiplatelet medication to decrease the risk of clot formation (aspirin, warfarin) versus surgical or percutaneous correction. There is no clear evidence that closure is better than medical therapy because it is not clear that strokes that occur in this population are actually related to the defect.
Avatar f tn After several weeks of discomfort in the sole of my foot after surgery, and not finding an answer from my primary doctor, All my primary suggested was inflamation in my foot. It wasnt enough for me so I went to a specialist I already have problems with my doot so I thought it best to go to a specialist. He took x rays and determined it was Osteoarthritist. The big concern at first was blood clots since it was right after surgery. I still am concerned about this. Can you still get them?
Avatar f tn My son is 17 year old. I was advised by to input pacemaker by 1 doctor. Another cardiologist said that pacemaker can have side effects like leads leakage which ultimately can lead to heart problems. And other infections as well. They said he is too young to have pacemaker. Has anyone got any experience or suggestions please? Thanks in advance. Worried mom.
Avatar n tn Its not a bad surgery, I was awake for mine. They gave me some medication to help me relax, and a local anesthesia. I could feel some pressure and stuff while they were actually doing the implant, but it wasn't painful. I stayed overnight one night in the hospital, and then was released the next evening. Recovery was fine...my incision was a little sore and tender, but nothing I couldn't handle.
Avatar m tn The pain associated with an implanted pacemaker may be musculoskeletal or nerve related. Most likely related to the minor surgery required for insertion of the pacemaker. This type of pain related to the incision should heal within weeks. If you have persistent chest pain at the site of the pacemaker, it might be reasonable to see your doctor so that possible causes can be evaluated.

Avatar m tn However a day surgery a defective sinoatrial node was revealed and corrected with a pacemaker. I was started on Amiodarone, and discharged with instructions to continue the medication. My condition improved for about 6 days, and then things started to go downhill. By 14 days post op, I was essentially bedridden, unable to walk more than a minute without sitting and resting. My symptoms were bronchial / lung congestion, nausea, and extreme fatigue.
Avatar n tn can you please tell me why after having double bypass and a pacemaker fitted for missing beats why I can not get a erection ? Is it the meds i take ? These are the meds I take Nicorandil 30mg twice a day Cardicor 3.75mg once a day Ramipril 2.
351404 tn?1299489130 t have the bradycardia prior to taking the med then I would question even more about surgery for a pacemaker; which would be invasive and if your hr then changes could be dangerous for them to remove. You may want to ask in the expert forum on medhelp also to see what the doctors say =) it's worth a shot to get a 2nd opinion; but it may take a few tries to get a question in, so keep trying.
