Avatar n tn Replacing the 2 wire pacemaker with the 3 wire pacemaker is a surgery. My mom had this done and it was more than she expected, so it would be wise to wait as your doctor recommended the 5 months.
Avatar f tn Not only was this in 2005, but this was for an external pacemaker which is used for a few days in the hospital. The leads are generally removed before the person leaves the hospital, but one of mine could not be removed. It is dangerous to forse it, so in a case like that they just leave it in. In any case, I am sure that even today they do not use those new special leads for a temporary external pacemaker.
945463 tn?1266521933 ( I always get an infection after surgery.) Earlier this year I had surgery and got an infection and I was in the hospital for 45 days. I don't want another long hospital stay. It is very dangerous for me to get an infection especially in my abdomen because I have two shunts that drain into my abdomen that drain from brain and spine. If bacteria reaches those shunts it gets a free ride straight to my brain. I don't really know why I keep getting an infection and either do my doctors.
Avatar m tn t with his left arm... the side the pacemaker is on. He recently had a sharp pain in his chest where the pacemaker is due to overdoing. Being a minister, he was talking about societies issues and had another severe sharp pain in the same area. I told him he should stay calm and keep things light. I am guessing if he follows Doctors orders he may not have the pain?
620923 tn?1452915648 thanks guys. It was a rough surgery. My insurance only approved ONE DAY IN THE HOSPITAL -- and it's normal to stay 2-7 days. So I was back in the ER the next day with horrible abdominal pain. Another complaint aimed towards the hospital ... or my neurosurgeons fellow, is that I was sent to an "unmonitored" room. And after my last surgery they had HUGE issues keeping my pain under control.
Avatar m tn My pacer was inserted three years ago, and my heart rate and blood pressure rates were great afterwards. However, I had to have bypass surgery, and following the surgery my heart rate and blood pressure was hard to control. The docs contacted my pacer manufacturer and together, they found the problem. I'd strongly urge you to contact St. Judes and send them the very well worded post that you sent us, and ask them for some help. St.
Avatar m tn that could have been utilized instead of a pacemaker? 5) Should I have been given an antibiotic after the surgery or is it normal practice to not prescribe one? 6) Should I feel the pacemaker when it kicks in? 7) Currently, my pacemaker is set at 40 and has kicked in less than 20% of the time. Is that normal? 8) I have read on internet that septic shock reaccurs. How likely is this?
Avatar f tn A lady friend underwent open heart surgery to repair/replace two heart valves and to do a mini maze to stop atrial fibrillation. She has been in the hospital for the past 10 days due to complications and had a pacemaker installed a few days back to address low heart rate. This, new to me, is due to swelling due to surgery and the swelling is restricting heart beat signals to the ventricle muscles - it is our hope that when the swelling goes down the pacemaker will not be needed.
Avatar m tn is there a hospital stay to replace battery in a pacemaker, or same day procedure
Avatar n tn My mother-in-law, who will be 95 is April, was recently hospitalized has several episodes of arrhythmia at the hospital. the doctor recommends a pacemaker. What are the pros and cons of someone her age to have a pacemaker implanted?
1411632 tn?1281642993 I had a halter monitor test done by my PCP and they said they recorded several pauses. One that was 9.5 seconds, one 6 seconds and two 3 seconds. I was referred to a cardiologist who recommended a pacemaker. What are the odds that in that 24 hour halter test there are 4 pauses but now my pacemaker has not recorded any in an 8 month period? I also did not have tachycardia until after the pacemaker implantation.
Avatar f tn a pacemaker was implanted after surgery because she had complete heart-block. She thrived after her surgery and lived life to the fullest. On June 20,2009, when she was three and a half years old, she tragically fell to the ground. She was rushed to the hospital, but they were unsuccessful in reviving her.It was later determined at autopsy that her pacemaker lead had fractured. It was a Medtronic pacemaker. I have been in disbelief since then. I understand that these are just wires.
351404 tn?1299489130 I was not aware of the bradycardia before I started Bisoprolol which was during my hospital stay in September. (This replaced the Atenolol I was taking up until then). Consequently wearing a Novocor monitor for a week revealed this condition. Seems to me that our medical service is a passive thing rather than proactive and it is really up to the individual to research and suggest or one can get left on a treatment which is just accepted and not changed.
Avatar m tn He has already gone over the risks high chance of ending up with a pacemaker. I will have to stay in the hospital over night to have my heart continuously monitored. I wanted to hear some other stories from people who have had this procedure, how long was the hospital stay? when did you go back to work? any complications?
Avatar n tn I volunteer in a hospital cardiac wing, and work with loved ones who have had heart related surgeries several days a week, and certainly, pacemaker insertions are very common. We get feedback from the patients about their care, etc., and I can't recall anyone who said they had problems other that a sore spot on the chest, but almost all people with pacemaker insertions report greater energy and a better quality of life. I also have a pacemaker, and am feeling great.
Avatar f tn my father is admitted in a hospital. he had bypas surgery on 24th of september. at present his heartbeat or heart rate is 84. is he need any pacemaker?
1331422 tn?1326566597 I got a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted the end of June. The surgery is only a couple of hours and they kept me overnight. I was a little sore but nothing like other surgeries I've had. I recovered extremely quickly. They say not to raise your arm for the first week, no lifting, pushing or pulling for 6 weeks, no jogging or cardio workout for 4-5 weeks. Pretty much the same restrictions as with any surgery except you have to be really careful not to pull the leads out of your heart.
Avatar m tn Immediately after aortic valve replacement, the patient will frequently stay in a cardiac surgery intensive care unit for 12-36 hours. After this, the patient is often moved to a lower-dependency unit and then to a cardiac surgery ward. Total time spent in hospital following surgery is usually between 4 and 10 days, unless complications arise. Common complications include heart block which typically requires the permanent insertion of a cardiac pacemaker.
Avatar n tn Recently she traveled from Colorado to Montana and her heart rate dropped tremendously (29bpm). She was taken to the hospital in Bozeman, MT. After many tests they decided to put a pacemaker in. Ever since this surgery she has been Extremely tired constantly and unable to do her normal activities. Is this a normal side effect after this surgery? If so, is it expected to get better with time? Her check up appointment was scheduled for two months after the surgery.
Avatar m tn Hi Doctor, My bro aged 21 recently jus joined army force as regular, physical fit in average, not really stressful workout in camp as he's a military police. During 1 week ago, he went for full medical check up in camp & founded out by MO his HR is only 36/min. Immediately warded to hospital. 24hour EKG, worst result during resting was 26/min.
Avatar f tn This is very difficult for me to answer because I live in the UK and over here it depends on the trust running the hospital. It varies. However, I do know that a cardiologist will be on call and they stay in the hospital over night, sleeping in any available room. The hospitals which have a cardiac ward are strict on this. Usually it will not be a consultant cardiologist, but they are in the hospital for many hours every day, early hours until late evening.
2079510 tn?1332114779 I feel worse after the second surgery. I have been told that a pacemaker will not help this condition and I am very hesitant to have the "maze" surgery. I have been cardioverted 13+ times in the last year (lost count after having it done so many times). Is there anyone out there that has been in this situation with the ablation procedure not working for them at all?
Avatar n tn In my experience, when a Pacemaker is inserted by a Cardiologist, a representative by the Pacemaker manufacturer follows up the insertion and programs the pacemaker in the hospital. It's not unusual that it has to be tweaked from time to time. If your husband still isn't feeling right, I'd request that you contact your Cardiologist and ask for a manufacturer's rep to be present to review the history of your heart beats since it was inserted.
