pacemaker

Avatar n tn the 3 wire pacemaker could need to be programed again after a year of instalation?
Avatar m tn The only rationale to this decision is that the patient is not a surgical canditate for invasive surgery and the pacemaker is only for symptom management. Of course the patient should be involved in making an informed decision. If you are a health care provider involved with this patient, you have every right to ask the cardiologist for the rationale for which he is basing his decision. You offered a great critical reflection.
Avatar m tn This is probably a weird question for the ages! Last week, I had a pacemaker removed because the wound was irritated. The pacemaker was replaced, the pacemaker pocket in the doctor's words "washed out" and the incision closed with steri strips. A few days later, my incision started leaking a golden liquid that I immediately recognized as Betadine or similar. About a week after the surgery, I'm sick. I'm running a low fever, headache, and feel horrible.
Avatar f tn The recommendation for a pacemaker is *never* lightly made, and--unless you are an exceptionally trained athlete--your heart rate was in fact too low. Ordinary people do not faint from dehydration, but they do faint when their blood pressure gets too low to keep them conscious, and that happens when the heart rate is too slow to send oxygen-carrying blood to the brain. Do not kid yourself about this.
Avatar m tn She is not a candidate for the surgery due to her other health problems.
Avatar n tn i had 3 open heart surgery and on my 2nd. pacemaker.. my first pacemaker last me for 18yrs. and just got my 2nd. pacemaker Dec.2006.. my pacemaker was implanted in my upper chest on the right side.. only thing i hate the surgery doctor told me he would use the same cut as the other pacemaker but when i woke up he cut me in another spot.. well i can say.. ask your doctor his he using the same cut as the first pacemaker was in..
Avatar f tn Dear Shabna, The reason that there are 2 incisions for the pacemaker placement is that your child is an infant, which means that the pacemaker is an epicardial pacemaker system. This means that the pacemaker leads have to be attached to the outside of the heart, and this is separate from the placement of the pacemaker generator in the abdomen. Your father, as an adult with large blood vessels, has a transvenous pacemaker system.
Avatar m tn My wife has Lymes. With a history of bowl problems her whole life. Question is, she is on alot of pain and other meds which has seemed to has bascally put her colon asleep. Avatar m tn After the bypass surgery they found that the pacemaker was shorting out. Had it reinstalled 2 days later. Since the surgery I get periods when I am exerting myself where I run completely out of energy, can't take the next step. They have tried to find the problem with a half dozen different tests but it wasn't until the AFib running almost continuosly that I came to the conclusion that it was the cause of my weekness etc..
1866508 tn?1333984613 Hey good folks......i sent this in response to tomskat via PM but thought I would go ahead and throw it out to the general community...everyone here seems to be very supportive, understanding and non-judgemental (a hard combo to find in any group of human beings !!) So here it is.....any response/advice will be appreciated. Hey tomskat thanks for reaching out to me.....where to start......I have had back problems beginning in the late 80's, early 90's.
Avatar f tn I'm 19 years old. 3 months ago I went in for knee surgery. While I was in recovery they found me in 3rd degree heart block. I was sent home with a heart rate of 40 they thought it was just the pain meds. With in four hours I was unconscious on the bathroom floor with a heart rate of 15 quickly fading. I was rushed to the er and put in cardiac short stay for the night. They ran test after test to make sure anistisa had nothing to do with it.
Avatar f tn My mother had her pacemaker replaced in March 09 She went for a pacemaker check today. She has had arrhytmias the past several months so she has an appt next week to see her doc. What causes arrhytmias even when you have a pacemaker. Is this normal? Pacemakers are supposed to treat this, right?
Avatar n tn So you have the pacemaker? Yes, the initial cardiologist URGED me to get a pacemaker, immediately, saying my heart could stop at any moment. This , has added to my stress and I have been monitoring my heart rate and watch it go to 30's. It is without symptoms, though I think sometimes I start to breath funny (because of fear) and feel a bit lightheaded, but then returns to normal.
Avatar n tn I am a 60 yo man with history of bypass surgery 5 years ago due to blocked LAD at bifurcation. Since then have been essentially asymptomatic even during frequent heavy exercise such as running and cycling. Resting pulse is in low 40's which is where it has been for years. During the last 6 months, I have had perhaps four occasions of dreaming that I cannot get a breath, like I had a severe cold. It did not wake me up. When I did awake, I was in no way congested.
Avatar m tn His surgeon mentioned possible pacemaker, but was put on amiodarone since surgery. He has been on amiodarone 6 months. No afib since surgery. He now has hypothyroidism and would like to stop the amiodarone. The cardiologist says ok to stop amiodarone. My understanding is that with a low EF his risk of AFIB or other arrythmia is high. Should he stop and see how he does?or try to become a candidate for a pacemaker?
Avatar m tn The pain associated with an implanted pacemaker may be musculoskeletal or nerve related. Most likely related to the minor surgery required for insertion of the pacemaker. This type of pain related to the incision should heal within weeks. If you have persistent chest pain at the site of the pacemaker, it might be reasonable to see your doctor so that possible causes can be evaluated.
Avatar m tn I recently had a pacemaker installed due to heart block. Prior to the surgery I experienced no symptoms. No fatigue or lightheadedness, in fact I didn't even know there was a problem until the EKG. Since the surgery, I am so fatigued and have a pins and needles feeling in my head and neck. Last week I was told that the top portion of the pacemaker was not working, but that I didn't need it.
Avatar f tn My grandmother had her pacemaker implanted 1 week ago. Is it normal for the area to be bruised, a purple color? She is also experiencing a burning sensation around the area. She is 84 years old and before she had the surgery she was able to walk fine and now she walks a little and she feels very tired and she says she feels like her heart is beating really fast and it might even come out.

Avatar m tn But on the other hand he ordered a 2 week loop monitor and told me the possibility of surgery or medicaition. Who knows, but the pacemaker lab seemed more concerned than him. Better that way then to have the specialist concerned! Thanks again.
Avatar f tn Well maybe I had some pacemaker operating when I was in surgery, Of course don't know anything about what went on in there, thank god, the anesthesiologist kept me under the whole time. My surgeon/hospital was all for back on your feet and I was sitting up in a high back chair within a few hours after surgery. I had several catheters hanging out of me and was hooked up to heart monitoring equipment.
Avatar f tn I just had a dual lead pacemaker put in 3 days ago to control accelerated junctional rhythm. The same night of surgery I had ajr of 135 it had overridden my pacemaker. I continue to have junctional rhythms and very rarely is my heart rate,at 85 which is what pacemaker is set at. I can't walk from one room to another without heart racing and out of breath. I feel horrible.. Will this get better as maybe my heart is irritated? I feel worse than. Before pacemaker.
Avatar f tn The attached picture shows a very serious situation. Given her medical history and her medical condition right now, surgery is probably out of the question. Placing of stents will be very difficult (if possible at all) with so many blockages that need to be treated. But, as for surgery, also for stenting you need to look at the whole situation and not just at the angiogram. You could also post your question in the heart disease forum for extra opinions. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Life Vest would likely be more effective for treatment of these lethal rhythms but you mentioned that there is no history of defibrillator shocks (i.e no history of lethal rhythms or no history of lethal rhythms long enough to warrant therapy). Amiodarone have frequent side effects, most (but not all) are associated with long term use. Obviously it is not a case with using LifeVest. On the other hand you mentioned that biventricular pacemaker helps for ‘irregular beats’.
