pacemaker

Avatar n tn But the pacemaker might allow him to survive the surgery.....however implanting the pacemaker is a risk in itself! Quite a lot of older dogs go through surgery ok. But it depends on what surgery, and it depends on their overall condition for their age. I they are generally well, the risks are greatly lessened. It sounds as if he is in quite bad shape. In my opinion, the worst-case scenario would be that he didn't survive the surgery.
Avatar n tn i had 3 open heart surgery and on my 2nd. pacemaker.. my first pacemaker last me for 18yrs. and just got my 2nd. pacemaker Dec.2006.. my pacemaker was implanted in my upper chest on the right side.. only thing i hate the surgery doctor told me he would use the same cut as the other pacemaker but when i woke up he cut me in another spot.. well i can say.. ask your doctor his he using the same cut as the first pacemaker was in..
Avatar f tn The pacemaker itself should not be a deterent from having an ablation. I've had a pacemaker for 6 years (because of an ablation actually), and then had another ablation about a year ago. Unfortunately, the ablations don't work for me, but I have IST, not SVT so hopefully they're more effective for that.
Avatar n tn I would recommend you get more testing done on your intestines and trying more conventional treatments before resorting to something involving surgery like a colonic pacemaker.

Avatar f tn t helping me), 2) increase the Metoprolol (which would have lots of side effects and make the pacemaker need to be used more; resulting in pacemaker surgery again since I only have one lead now since they couldn't get the second lead in the first time) or 3) ablation. I never knew of anyone who had ablation and the thought of it was extremely frightening. I go to see him again in two weeks to discuss what I would like to do.
Avatar f tn My mother had her pacemaker replaced in March 09 She went for a pacemaker check today. She has had arrhytmias the past several months so she has an appt next week to see her doc. What causes arrhytmias even when you have a pacemaker. Is this normal? Pacemakers are supposed to treat this, right?
Avatar m tn The pain associated with an implanted pacemaker may be musculoskeletal or nerve related. Most likely related to the minor surgery required for insertion of the pacemaker. This type of pain related to the incision should heal within weeks. If you have persistent chest pain at the site of the pacemaker, it might be reasonable to see your doctor so that possible causes can be evaluated.
1388357 tn?1280189493 I have to share this because we hear of so many doctors who don't know about cm/sm... I took my dog to the vet yesterday, and mentioned that because I had surgery, I've been having my daughter bathe the dogs, so I'm not as "hands on" with the dogs as far as noticing any physical changes on them. She asked what kind of surgery, and I explained about chiari and the decompression surgery.
Avatar n tn I read where after every ablation procedure patients reqiure a pacemaker. I am scheduled for this procedure but there has been no reference to a pacemaker ????
Avatar f tn My grandmother had her pacemaker implanted 1 week ago. Is it normal for the area to be bruised, a purple color? She is also experiencing a burning sensation around the area. She is 84 years old and before she had the surgery she was able to walk fine and now she walks a little and she feels very tired and she says she feels like her heart is beating really fast and it might even come out.
Avatar n tn His cardiologist does not recommend surgery to fix the valve (too risky) but suggested a biventricular pacemaker be considered (he currently has a pacemaker). He went for assessment and the dr at the clinic said it would not benefit him. We are running out of options. Do you know of anyone with a similar background that has had success with the biventricular pacemaker? would you recommend any other treatment? thanks.
Avatar f tn Not only was this in 2005, but this was for an external pacemaker which is used for a few days in the hospital. The leads are generally removed before the person leaves the hospital, but one of mine could not be removed. It is dangerous to forse it, so in a case like that they just leave it in. In any case, I am sure that even today they do not use those new special leads for a temporary external pacemaker.
Avatar m tn I recently had a pacemaker installed due to heart block. Prior to the surgery I experienced no symptoms. No fatigue or lightheadedness, in fact I didn't even know there was a problem until the EKG. Since the surgery, I am so fatigued and have a pins and needles feeling in my head and neck. Last week I was told that the top portion of the pacemaker was not working, but that I didn't need it.
Avatar m tn A Vet prescribed Deramaxx for my friend's dog, and ithe dog began having seizures within 24 hours- (never had seizures before). And then it was one problem after another. May have been coincidental, but my friend didn't think so. Maybe Metacam would be a safer alternative (?) There are over the counter (herbal/supplement) type painkillers available at pet stores or on-line, though I don't know if they'd work for the particular ailment your dog has.
659608 tn?1318289366 Should a 93 year old female diagnoised with a blood clot on her heart, with the top & bottom of her heart not beating correctly, be given a pacemaker? She is in good health for her age, & never had surgery before, but getting a little demetia. What are the risks for this age, and is the cure worse than the problem? She is currently on Warfin to thin her blood. What will the quality of life be if she has this done?
Avatar f tn a pacemaker was implanted after surgery because she had complete heart-block. She thrived after her surgery and lived life to the fullest. On June 20,2009, when she was three and a half years old, she tragically fell to the ground. She was rushed to the hospital, but they were unsuccessful in reviving her.It was later determined at autopsy that her pacemaker lead had fractured. It was a Medtronic pacemaker. I have been in disbelief since then. I understand that these are just wires.
Avatar m tn Does she have written wishes or did she express wishes? Is she healthy enough for the surgery? Patients with dementia are not always healthy in the end. Either way, the pacemaker is not going to extend her life.
Avatar f tn My husband has been totally reliant on a pacemaker since unsuccessful surgery for WPW 27 years ago. Recent nuclear testing shows CI although his pacemaker is rate-responsive. He's at the end of life of his 3rd battery. One failed lead was replaced 13 yrs ago and so 3 are in place. He now needs a 4th lead but has ongoing circulation issues from the space occupied by leads. Would a dual-sensor pacemaker be likely to help the CI? Would all models require 2 new leads instead of one?
Avatar n tn I'm curious. If you're having a pacemaker, how do you know there is an A-Fib? Do your pacemaker senses if A-Fib then it'll pace it out? Isn't it during A-Fib, the EKG will show "paced rhythm"? Why the ER doc told me, they can't tell what rhythm that I got during pacing. All he can tell "Paced rhythm"! Do you have 2 leads pacemaker or 1 lead pacemaker? Sorry for asking that, I want to learn my condition.
