Pacemaker surgery cardiomyopathy

Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker surgery cardiomyopathy

pacemaker

Avatar f tn If medications do not help to resolve symptoms then a pacemaker may be indicated. In dilated cardiomyopathy a pacemaker that coordinates the contractions between the left and right ventricles (biventricular pacing), may help improve the cardiac output. Pacemaker will sometimes help with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Please discuss with your consulting doctor. Regards.
291222 tn?1210048328 The treatment for non-ischemic dilated CM is beta blockers like Coreg, an ACEI at a minimum. Depending on the severity a strict low sodium diet may be necessary. Sometimes the heart will return to normal relatively quickly, for instance if a virus attacked the heart muscle. That is difficult to prove though as biopsies are not routinely done any more. The treatment is essentially the same.

Avatar f tn can you improve - have a defib + pacemaker after sudden death - cardiologist isn't very informative.
Avatar m tn Hi, Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle which results to difficulty in pumping blood. Cardiomyopathy can be treated. The type of treatment you'll receive depends on which type of cardiomyopathy you have and how serious it is. There are three main types of cardiomyopathy: dilated, hypertrophic and restrictive. The overall goals of treatment for cardiomyopathy are: to manage your signs and symptoms, prevent your condition from worsening, and reduce your risk of complications.
Avatar n tn I have already explained in detail the conditions of my sister who was suffering from Cardiomyopathy with low ef 15%,which led to her sudden death.I had earlier also posted this as to if my sister had arrthymia ten why did not the doctor prescribed pace maker.Secondly,is STEM CELL helpful in treating this disease with proven results.I reside in India.
1600503 tn?1305349464 I have dilated cardiomyopathy. So does my Mom. When she had her ICD implanted she had complications and the pacemaker mark of the implant could not be connected. What are the chances of me have the same complication. She ended up being in the hospital for 3 days and then rehab for a week.
Avatar n tn If the pacemaker is the only concern, in other words he is not dealing with any other heart diseases such as a cardiomyopathy, he will have a normal life span. The pacemaker batteries last for years and before the batteries stop working, there are signs of that happening months before the pacemaker stops working. His doctor will have plenty of time to have the pacemaker battery replaced.
Avatar n tn I have had all four valves replaced. I also was left with severe cardiomyopathy. I suffer from chronic heart failure since then and am hospitalized frequently. I am currently five months pregnant, and was encouraged to not have the baby, but I chose not to terminate. Right now I am hospitalized and am not doing too well. My heart rate is fluctuating between 150 to 190. The nurses are in here since mid week listening to my heart like every fifteen minutes.
1159932 tn?1262735207 I was diagnosed at age 35 with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, I am now 46. Yesterday, for about 3 hours my heart rate was 42 beats per min. I was sweating, pale, couln't walk, dizzy, and ended with a migrane. I was wondering how concerned I should be with these episodes?
Avatar m tn His surgeon mentioned possible pacemaker, but was put on amiodarone since surgery. He has been on amiodarone 6 months. No afib since surgery. He now has hypothyroidism and would like to stop the amiodarone. The cardiologist says ok to stop amiodarone. My understanding is that with a low EF his risk of AFIB or other arrythmia is high. Should he stop and see how he does?or try to become a candidate for a pacemaker?
Avatar m tn If you have an ICD-CRT device (also with defibrillator), your doctor can leave the ICD turned on and change the pacemaker (ventricular pacing) as a backup if needed (e.g. when your own pacemaker runs too slowly or if appears a blockade between the upper and lower part of the heart). You can discuss about this option to your doctor and define with him the pros and cons. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Hi my boyfriend is 31 years old and we're waiting for his appointment to get his pacemaker installed. He has to find some other type of work to do then what he was doing before because he's always done physical jobs. What jobs can he do with a pacemaker? He has cardiomyopathy and we're unable to get a list of programs he can go study or jobs he can do. His heart is at 25%. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I had a pacemaker installed 6 months ago for sick sinus syndrome. Despite exercise I have never gotten back my former energy level and am easily fatigued. Is this common with a pacemaker? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/867956'>Pacemaker complications</a>.
Avatar f tn Hi, as you have multiple problems in the heart, its difficult to predict the exact cause for your symptoms. Your symptoms may not be due to cardiomyopathy. Cardiomyopathy is a disease of abnormal heart muscle. There are three main types of cardiomyopathy, dilated, hypertrophic and restrictive. You will need to check with your doctor, please consult him for a complete evaluation. Regards.

Avatar n tn And all in the same breath said that his heart was very weak and he only had a enjection fraction of 25% and even felt that his heart was to weak for any farther testing, and he would never be able to work again, for him to rest as much as possible and make sure he took his medication, not push his self to do anything. His diagnoses was Cardiomyopathy.
755175 tn?1334994778 Sir,my sister aged 29yrs was diagnosed with dialted cardiomyopathy after giving delivery her second daughter in jan'06 by casearian operation. Her first daughter was born in nov'03. with an ef of 25% in oct'06.She got treatment from escorts specialty centre, where after the tests she was recomended the following medicines:digoxin,cardiovas,dietor20.However,inspite of taking all precautions, when another echo was done in may'07,her ef had fallen to 15%.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone. I have a friend who has just been told she has cardiomyopathy and an EF of 25%. She's in her early forties. She has also had pulmonary hypertension diagnosed. She will have to have a pacemaker and defibrillator fitted. Can EF's improve? She had a food intolerance and i'm wondering that now that is being treated (and she felt tons better) whether the heart might improve?
Avatar f tn I have idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, [diagnosed 2002] LBBB, and CAD in rca. with 8 stents. I've recently developed frequent PVC's and been told that my systolic function had returned to normal range but have developed diastolic dysfunction with shortness of breath. I have an implanted [2006] bi-v pacemaker and defibrillator which helped relieve my early symptoms enormously. IS the diastolic dysfunction a progression of the cardiomyopathy?
Avatar m tn I am not diabetic, have had Gastric Bypass in the past and several dental procedures in the past. I have had Gyn myemectomy surgery in the past and did have post-op ever treated with antibiotics. I don't have a documented history of Rheumatic Fever, but I did have at least one episode of Strep throat as an adult diagnosed and treated by my ENT Physician. I have never had syphillis.
Avatar n tn I had a pacemaker put in 1979 after my daughter was born in 2004 they took it out now it is 2008 a ekg showed I have abnormal t waves could it be because I do not have a pacemaker anymore
745331 tn?1232830226 My mom have CHF and cardiomyopathy and had a pacemaker for 12 years. She was able to take Plavix, but doctors said not Coumadin. You can have blood work to determine the thickness of your blood. The aspirin may be enough for you.
Avatar m tn A pacemaker may also be used to treat fainting spells (syncope), congestive heart failure, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. A pacemaker implant is more for assurance of good, normal heartbeat than a remedy for heart failure.
Avatar n tn First time I post here for some patients there is help for heart failure with a cardiac resynchronization pacemaker crt pacemaker also called CHF pacemaker one also needs a very good EP electrophysiology cardiologist as they specialize in this area and several heart medicines and daily diuretics. For 2 ot of 3 patients this really helps I was told.
Avatar n tn Would ablation, pacemaker or another drug be a better option for a 77 year old man? I have been told that PVCs are originating in the left ventricle. Would ignoring them lead to more serious problems like ventricular tachcardia? My heart function is good with ejection fraction 60% to 65%, and normol exercise tolerance. My heart rate is 55 beat, however, at night it slows to mid forties.
Avatar f tn Please do your best to get rest and take things at your pace. When are you scheduled for your pacemaker implant? You may actually find that you will feel better with the unit. Please think about posting your question on the Heart Disease forum also. It's great here, but the Heart Failure forum is new and more members will see your question if it's on both boards. Also, try putting something in the subject like: Postpartum Cardiomyopathy so our other PPCM moms will see it.
