Avatar f tn She has been in the hospital for the past 10 days due to complications and had a pacemaker installed a few days back to address low heart rate. This, new to me, is due to swelling due to surgery and the swelling is restricting heart beat signals to the ventricle muscles - it is our hope that when the swelling goes down the pacemaker will not be needed. It was a first to me to hear of a too slow HR associated with atrial fibrillation - but here it seems it is due to surgery not Afib...
Avatar m tn The pain associated with an implanted pacemaker may be musculoskeletal or nerve related. Most likely related to the minor surgery required for insertion of the pacemaker. This type of pain related to the incision should heal within weeks. If you have persistent chest pain at the site of the pacemaker, it might be reasonable to see your doctor so that possible causes can be evaluated.
539989 tn?1218832080 I still have alot of pain from where the chest tube was and I have some numbness on the left side of my back, side and arm. My chest is still extremely tender from where my pacemaker was placed. I am wondering if this is all normal. My pacemaker scar is very bad looking as well. I have had double bi-pass surgery and even that scar looked better than this one does. Thank you.
Avatar f tn My grandmother had her pacemaker implanted 1 week ago. Is it normal for the area to be bruised, a purple color? She is also experiencing a burning sensation around the area. She is 84 years old and before she had the surgery she was able to walk fine and now she walks a little and she feels very tired and she says she feels like her heart is beating really fast and it might even come out.
Avatar n tn However, after the surgery she has still been kept on pacemaker as cardiologists said her heart rate is still on 48-55 per minute (which is quite slow). The cardiologists have suggested that if the heart rate does not return back to normal a permanent pacemaker maybe required. Can anyone please suggest whether to wait for the heart beat to be back to normal or go for the pacemaker. Thanks in advance for the help.
Avatar f tn My surgeon/hospital was all for back on your feet and I was sitting up in a high back chair within a few hours after surgery. I had several catheters hanging out of me and was hooked up to heart monitoring equipment. When I talked with the surgeon I got all happy answers, no problem, no blood transfusions, yes he was able to repair my valve, yes I was in normal sinus rhythm.
Avatar f tn However, last night it dropped to 70 bpm and they plugged the pacemaker back in. Why would it beat fine for 3 days and then misfire? Just trying to get some ideas.
Avatar n tn Has anyone ever encounterd this type of pain after pacemaker surgery, and if so, what was the cause and what did your doctor do to correct the problem? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Replacing the 2 wire pacemaker with the 3 wire pacemaker is a surgery. My mom had this done and it was more than she expected, so it would be wise to wait as your doctor recommended the 5 months.
Avatar f tn After the surgery she has been dizzy, confused and forgets thing, depress, emotional. She has not been back to work yet because she is a medication nurse. We have had a EEG, CAT Scan done and nothing has shown up. Where do we go from here? I was also wondering can the pacemaker be set to high they have it set at 60 bpm.? They are trying to tell us that it might be her inner ear I do not believe it.
Avatar m tn She is not a candidate for the surgery due to her other health problems.

Avatar m tn I recently had a pacemaker installed due to heart block. Prior to the surgery I experienced no symptoms. No fatigue or lightheadedness, in fact I didn't even know there was a problem until the EKG. Since the surgery, I am so fatigued and have a pins and needles feeling in my head and neck. Last week I was told that the top portion of the pacemaker was not working, but that I didn't need it.
Avatar f tn I had a pacemaker put in November 2010. It was the most horrifying experience I have ever gone through as the lidocaine had absolutely no effect and versed does not work on me so I had full feeling of surgery from the initial incision to the creation of the pocket into my muscle and placement of the pacemaker. My heart rate and blood pressure had been dropping to critical levels. A BP of 60/40 at night and a heart rate in the low to mid thirties was commonplace.
17471205 tn?1456977307 This rate slowly kept declining and for the past 2 years prior to surgery 30 bpm was normal for me . On August 18th of 2015, I had a pacemaker implanted at the age of 26. Before this I had the shortness of breath, light headed, dizzy, major lack of energy, always tired, terrible chest pains. After my implant surgery I still get chest pains but not s often now. However, my dizziness and lightheadedness seems to be happening more intense now. Still get shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn Next week I will go back to have it moved back and sewn into place. It is uncomfortable to say the least.
Avatar n tn After Pacemaker Surger my ECG test came back abnormal. Is it normal for them to come back with Right Bundle Branch Block and T Wave Abnormality, consider Laterial Ischemia? And what does this mean? This discussion is related to lateral ischemia.

Avatar n tn My mom is 52. She's had her pacemaker for 4 1/2 years now. Fractures, while rare, are fixable. the original plan was that hers was fractured. So the procedure would be to snip both ends, cap them and sew them down, and then implant the new lead in another spot close by. In that procedure you do not have to have open heart surgery. It's much like the original surgery where you get the pacemaker. They go in through the original scar site and fix everything and finish up.
Avatar n tn High reading has been 204/189 to a low of 157/94. He also has a pacemaker. Is it possible that the pacemaker simply needs recalabrating?
Avatar n tn Following surgery he had excessive bleeding in icu and after being unable to control it for 4 hours he was taken back to surgery to assess where the bleeding was coming from. Once openeing him up they were unable to find a source for the bleeding and by then it had subsided. We still have no idea where this bleeding came from. Any ideas??? Currently my dad who remains in hospital is experiencing an irregular heart rate. Prior to surgery his heart rate was around 50-60.
Avatar f tn they did an x ray which shows the same as the x ray taken at the hospital the day after the pacemaker was put in. but i go back in 2 weeks to do the test again as they say the ex ray does not pick up micro changes. my question is. is this normal? and my dr. if so adamet about me not lifting my arm above my head after surgery for 2 weeks. but the ex ray tech. had me lift my arm above my head the day after surgery. could that have caused the lead to move.?
