It took a total of 10-15 min for the procedure itself, then I had to be taken to have a pacemaker/icd implanted since my arteries were clear.
I think normally, you go back to your room after the procedure and have to lay flat for awhile and then have the stint removed and pressure placed on the site for a certain amount of time [mine was 20 min] the pressure part was worse then feeling the cut, but that's just my exeperience.
I went for a tilt test in July to confirm whether I truly have dysautonomia or not. My starting heart rate was 55 b/m and b/p 119/64. 15 minutes into the test, I passed out and my heart rate was 38 with b/p of 64/28, I was told the top chambers of my heart stopped functioning. I have family history of sudden death, maternal grandparents, maternal aunt and two uncles but my mother is fine. I also have lupus and don't want to go on a variety of medications.
Hi Selma. My surgeon is not going down the pacemaker route as my stomach emptying test was not bad enough. He is still wanting to do a partial wrap - toupet I think it is called!! It has been on hold as my pre-op assessent threw something up and they have not told me what. I am now beginning to question myself if want to go through this major operation or not. A partial wrap is an option if you have motility problems ie the muscles in the gullet do not push the food down into the stomach.

You can have a normal EKG and still need a pacemaker. The RATE on the EKG would be the determining factor. His EKG being normal means that he hasn't had a heart attack, his heart structure is okay, things like that. If his heart rate is 'GOING UP TO 45 beats per minute, (normal heart rate is 60-100bpm with a mean of 72 for men) that's too slow and therefore your father isn't getting enough oxygen to his brain and other body organs, that is why he's short of breath.
I'd ask him why not just put in the pacemaker and skip the rest. I just put a question on the forum myself about something similar. I have no problem with getting a pacemaker.
I really can't see messing with ablation which may or may not work when I know a pacemaker will work and stop messing around with tests.
Maybe pacemakers are as good as I think they are, but my mother lived a very long life because of one. She sure felt better too.
The surgery was accompanied with a maze procedure to normalize the heart beat rate to normal. However, after the surgery she has still been kept on pacemaker as cardiologists said her heart rate is still on 48-55 per minute (which is quite slow). The cardiologists have suggested that if the heart rate does not return back to normal a permanent pacemaker maybe required. Can anyone please suggest whether to wait for the heart beat to be back to normal or go for the pacemaker.
My daughter had a duel chamber pacemaker and has had several cardioversions for A-Fib and she has NEVER had any problems with the pacemaker or leads following all of her cardioversions. They didn't need and replacements standing by or anything else.
I was wondering if Tachy-Brady Syndrome can coexist with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome and what the best treatment options are. Is a pacemaker indicated? Since my cardiologist mentioned it as a last resort.

My father had cognitive changes resulting from his head trauma and the first pacemaker implantation procedure and the related sedation knocked him for a loop. I had a pacemaker implanted 8 weeks ago; I was pleased on how I felt after the procedure. I was climbing 3 flights every day after walking from the parking lot to the building. Last week I underwent an av node ablation as the final procedure to correct my arrhythmia. Since, I started to retain fluids and, consequently, my physical activities diminished considerably. Went to the doctor for the fatigue and breathless issues and I was put on Lasix 40mg/day.
If people have side effects to the medications, sometimes the best option is to place a pacemaker and do a simple procedure (AV node ablation) that makes you pacemaker dependent. That why the pacemaker is in full control of the heart rate and the medication doses can be decreased. I have noticed that older women are often the ones that have the most medications side effects with atrial fibrillation and are more frequently the patients that end up with a pacemaker.
My cardiologist told me before the stent was put in that i should have my 2-wire pacemaker replaced with a 3-wire pacemaker. So I began making arrangements for this procedure. Now my Cardiologist tells me that I have to wait another 5 months to do this because I don't dare stop the Plavix and aspirin. In March my Mother had a replacement pacemaker box fitted. As soon as she came back to the ward she complained of intense pain in her sternum, she was told by the nurses that she was suffering from indigestion, they gave her Gaviscon. Although she was still in pain they discharged her two hours later.
I know from researching on-line that this is a relatively quick and simple procedure with minimal risks. Both my dad and I are nervous about the procedure. I am hoping I can receive some positive reassurances that this is the right thing for him to do to improve his quality of life. My dad is stubborn and thinks he does not have too long to live so why bother with the procedure.
