Avatar n tn What is the recovery time for Ablation Therapy? I have had one performed on 7/15/08 (the AFIB never stopped) and the second on 12/2/08. I am still going into AFIB. I take Sotalol and Metoprolol (bad side effects), along with commoudin. My surgeon says it may take up to 4 months for the AFIB to stop. I have worn an event monitor for MONTHS and it clearly shows the AFIB events.I wonder if I am being stalled / put off until time when a pacemaker may be installed. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn I had a pacer implanted two years ago. I felt fabulous after the procedure. It was short and the recovery time was about 4 hours. When I was ready to leave the hospital, I was allowed to walk out on my own. I stopped all meds at this point. I had 69 events in 22 days after the AVJ. I had my pacer interrogated again on April 15 and had no significant events to report. I am able to go to the gym, walk, etc with little difficulty.
Avatar m tn I understand that immediatly after getting a pacemaker installed there are lifting restrictions. After the healing period (how long is that any way?) are there any lifting restrictions?
Avatar m tn I met with him last July, also looked into a FIRM ablation procedure at OSU. At that time they had only done 26 and I opted to wait. This procedure has a much higher success rate. I am now being seen at the Cleveland Clinic this summer to get their opinion. I don't know where you are located, but they are one of the best centers in the Midwest, and one report I read said in the world. The AV node ablation with pacemaker is a possibility also, and some people are in permanent afib.
Avatar f tn In Feb.2008 I had a battery change. Since that date, there is a lead outline visible in the skin, the PM is floating toward my underarm when I sleep on that side. I am uncomfortable but the functionality of the PM is working. My issue is that I have been given the option of having a smaller PM inserted, repositioning of pocket and the leads tucked under the PM. SInce I thought I was through all this in February's changeout, I am having a difficult time making a decision.
Avatar n tn I read where after every ablation procedure patients reqiure a pacemaker. I am scheduled for this procedure but there has been no reference to a pacemaker ????
Avatar f tn t already have one, a pacemaker will be implanted at the time of the AVJ ablation. The setup took the longest... shaving the groin, IV, placement of patches on your chest, etc. Once the ablation starts, the procedure is only 30 min. I was fairly coherent but felt no pain. I had to lay on the table for another hour and then the doc tested to see if I conducted. I didn't so they removed the catheters and off to recovery I went.
Avatar m tn t like feeling lightheaded all the time so my option seems to be this or abalation. the doctor performing the procedure says there is a 10% chance they could burn off too much and I would have to have a pacemaker. Is anyone out there going thru this??
Avatar n tn My daughter had a duel chamber pacemaker for years without any difficulty from that pacemaker at all and she had very severe heart disease that eventually ended with a transplant. She was having presyncope and syncope and went into shock the one time the doctors had the gutds to do the tiltr test on her. With a pacemaker you may have a two inch scar from the insert, but so what??? Are you more concerned about a scar at your age or dying?
Avatar n tn i've had 2 ablations...mine were for SVT. both of mine took about 6 hrs each. the first one was an outpt procedure; the 2nd one i ended up in the hospital for 5 days. i was pretty much knocked out during both in a deep la-la land...don't remember a thing. the recovery time was a few weeks...i did go back to work after a couple of weeks; but i felt "wiped out" for a very long time. i went back on meds after both procedures....
251395 tn?1434494286 Becuase of multiple failed medication trials for afib and my junctional rhythm my EP had planned to put in a pacemaker last Fri. and then bring me back to the lab in a few months time to do an AV-Node ablation. So, I checked into the Brigham at 6am and was told to wait in the family center in the brand new Shapiro Center for Cardiovascular Excellence until the cath lab was ready for me. A short time later a man came to escort a group of us to the basement for our procedures.
Avatar n tn I'm 27 now, and I had my pacemaker implanted in 2002. Its not a bad surgery, I was awake for mine. They gave me some medication to help me relax, and a local anesthesia. I could feel some pressure and stuff while they were actually doing the implant, but it wasn't painful. I stayed overnight one night in the hospital, and then was released the next evening. Recovery was fine...my incision was a little sore and tender, but nothing I couldn't handle.
Avatar n tn when I was last in hospital, an 87 year old man in the bed next to me had a pacemaker fitted. Before the procedure, he could hardly walk, even using a frame, and was always panting/going dizzy. Within one day of the procedure he was walking without the frame and wasn't panting. His colour returned to normal and I was totally shocked and blown away by the transformation.
Avatar m tn What would be the average recovery time for a 40 year old Tarsal coalition ankle fusion?
Avatar m tn I have to have a catheter ablation procedure done and am trying to decide when to schedule this. I was wondering if anybody who has had this procedure or has in depth details on the procedure could inform me on what to expect. How long is the procedure? Will I be able to leave the hospital the same day as the procedure? Will I be "out of commission," so to say, for any period of time after the procedure? Will I be able to perform physical activities shortly after it?
Avatar m tn is there a hospital stay to replace battery in a pacemaker, or same day procedure
Avatar m tn My father had cognitive changes resulting from his head trauma and the first pacemaker implantation procedure and the related sedation knocked him for a loop. He is ambulating now, regaining memory and stamina but is still quite weak. Should he wait or just have the repositioning done now? He will be going for rehab after hospitalization. Avatar f tn How long is the Papilloma lesion breast surgery and how long is recovery time?
Avatar f tn Pacemaker batteries will not run out unexpectedly. When a battery is running low, the elective replacement indicator (ERI) is activated. Physicians can detect this activation during a routine office visit. In addition, the battery status and the general functioning of the pacemaker can be tested over the telephone. This is generally done every one to two months.
Avatar f tn In my 6 years associated with this forum, I've found that recovery time from this procedure varies greatly, so I can't give you a definite answer. Speaking for myself, my ablation for SVT was done back in late 2010. It was straight forward, 17 burns, back at it in 4 days, and 100% by 4 to 6 weeks. I had no TEE done for mine, and aside from an orange-sized hematoma in my upper thigh, left the hospital the same day in pretty good shape.
1019152 tn?1336074292 He is not the one doing the procedure though. He didnt say what % though. I wonder if recovery time is different between getting an rf ablation / cryo . Maybe there is cases of no reoccurance, but I would still like to talk to someone that has had that happen.Having a pacemaker is my worst fear.My dad had one put in and he died weeks later. The more I read some of these posts the more I dont want it done.
Avatar m tn Immediately after aortic valve replacement, the patient will frequently stay in a cardiac surgery intensive care unit for 12-36 hours. After this, the patient is often moved to a lower-dependency unit and then to a cardiac surgery ward. Total time spent in hospital following surgery is usually between 4 and 10 days, unless complications arise. Common complications include heart block which typically requires the permanent insertion of a cardiac pacemaker.
