pacemaker

Avatar n tn My mother had placement of a pacemaker 6 months ago. She was told that the battery should last 7-10 years. When she recently had her pacemaker checked the physician told her that she now has only 2 1/2 years of battery life left. Unfortunately, the reason for a loss of battery life was not given even after the question was presented. Can you help us understand what has happend.
Avatar m tn Unless your mother is in superior condition and will live many years I would not subject to the pacemaker. The pacemaker part is fine but not the defrib part of it. If she slips away that defrib unit will bring her back. As some one who is up in years I would not want that. A nice peace passing is what I would want. Warm regards.
Avatar m tn t with his left arm... the side the pacemaker is on. He recently had a sharp pain in his chest where the pacemaker is due to overdoing. Being a minister, he was talking about societies issues and had another severe sharp pain in the same area. I told him he should stay calm and keep things light. I am guessing if he follows Doctors orders he may not have the pain?
Avatar n tn Ive been keeping an eye on this for ages First of all i had what seemed to be a spot on the shaft of my penis, but then it seemed to become more of a small pink lump! So.. i wait a week or two. And now it started to go down.. but it has gone really smooth and pink, and round the edge is a faint white line? almost like peeling skin, except it wont peel. Anyway, i dont think its a chancre.. because it doesnt go inwards, its only slightly sticking outwards like a spot still.
Avatar n tn And two, in the setting of this A fib and a slow heart rhythm, putting in a pacemaker may reduce the amount of atrial fibrillation you're having. But more importantly, the presence of a pacemaker will allow your doctor to put you on anti-arrhythmic medications safely. If you have a tendency for a very slow heart rhythm, if you were placed on and anti-arrhythmic medication, your heart rate may get so slow you could get dizzy or pass out.
422881 tn?1257603579 We pierced our ears with a needle and thread and a chunk of ice too at the age of 13! That day we also became blood sisters we pricked our fingers too! Didnt realize that was popular..
Avatar m tn This is probably a weird question for the ages! Last week, I had a pacemaker removed because the wound was irritated. The pacemaker was replaced, the pacemaker pocket in the doctor's words "washed out" and the incision closed with steri strips. A few days later, my incision started leaking a golden liquid that I immediately recognized as Betadine or similar. About a week after the surgery, I'm sick. I'm running a low fever, headache, and feel horrible.
781550 tn?1236029747 I continued to have reflux - but there were no cardiac enzymes so it was assumed that I had Gord or severe reflux disease. Anyway, I took a Hilux utility for a drive after posting this, and had a severe heart attack. I was rushed from Toowoomba Hospital to Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane. Despite massive medication, my heart would not slow down until I arrived at hospital. I was put on a balloon pump. It took 3 weeks before I was able to leave hospital.
Avatar n tn When I do any exercise that really contracts the muscle that my pacemaker lies under, I pay attention to how it feels and stop or switch positions if it feels like it is putting too much pressure on the pacemaker. If your pacemaker has been implanted recently, be especially careful for the first few months while the scar tissue grows to hold the pacer and leads in place.
Avatar n tn My husband is totally dependent on the pacemaker and we want to keep that part of it operational, but NOT the defib portion of it. I didn't know you could have one without the other.
Avatar f tn org/ it has a forum specificially for pacemaker and icd patients, it has tons of useful info on the process of implant that is easy to understand if you have any questions after reading, let me know or post in either site and you'll get some answers

Avatar n tn He said when the pacemaker pacing, at the echo looks like hypokinesis. The LV didn't contracted at the same time as RV (paced). Left side is a bit lazy, didn't catch up to the right side speed. My EF is 55 - 59. No one wants to hear the dizzy spells, they said the pacemaker can cover it. The day when I wore the holter monitor, I was very dizzy like walking on the space. The QTc came out 675. I'm wondering was the dizziness caused by QTc or not?
Avatar f tn When I was at the doctors office they explained that it is working everytime her heart beats. They told us that the lower right side of her heart is bad. They said the pacemaker is set at 60bpm to keep her heart at a steady beat but when her blood pressure is taken the lower number is always in the 80's. I tryed to ask could the pacemaker be set to high for her body.
Avatar f tn So im just curious your ladys ages and how far along you are and is this your first?
Avatar f tn It might take a few weeks to get rid of the bruises but not the pain. The pain that I had (first pacemaker), it last for a few months. May be it was done under a Local anaesthetic. Yes, second, third. fourth........ It heals much quicker because they don't need to dig a pocket. Less burises and less pain. It takes a week to heal. After 3 days no more pain. May be it was done under a General anaesthetic. It heals faster and better. Those are my experience.
Avatar m tn I injured my shoulder several months ago and have tried cortazone injections and physical therapy. I have been taking celebrex and ice , moist heat but the pain has not stopped.
Avatar n tn I do have a tens unit but since it is on the worst of the pain, in my back I am finding that the back stays more flexible but the pain in the other parts of my body is still horrible. I also try ice and heat, the ice works better for me. I read one of the medical reports yesterday where it stated that the Fibromyalgia gets worse as a person ages. I sure didn't like that part one bit.
Avatar m tn In other cases, people may have no symptoms but are at high risk for dangerously slow heart rates because of disturbances of the electrical system of the heart. A pacemaker may be recommended for these people before symptoms occur. There are no electrical disturbance shown with your post?! Because a wrong decision can be very serious I would hesitate to second quess a doctor's assessment.
539989 tn?1218832080 pierced my lung and a chest tube had to be inserted. I still have alot of pain from where the chest tube was and I have some numbness on the left side of my back, side and arm. My chest is still extremely tender from where my pacemaker was placed. I am wondering if this is all normal. My pacemaker scar is very bad looking as well. I have had double bi-pass surgery and even that scar looked better than this one does. Thank you.
1411632 tn?1281642993 I had a halter monitor test done by my PCP and they said they recorded several pauses. One that was 9.5 seconds, one 6 seconds and two 3 seconds. I was referred to a cardiologist who recommended a pacemaker. What are the odds that in that 24 hour halter test there are 4 pauses but now my pacemaker has not recorded any in an 8 month period? I also did not have tachycardia until after the pacemaker implantation.
Avatar n tn metoprolol may not correct SOB! The pacemaker has corrected bradycardia!? The pacemaker will override any disruptions of the normal electrical impulses controlling the rate of your heart's pumping action. SOB is almost always a serious symptom...it was the only symptom for the admitting personal to put me in an emergency status, but I had other symptoms, dry cough, hyperventilating when laying down, etc . She said that is all that is needed is SOB.
