237152 tn?1206651036 Opiates depress your respiratory system also. I would think that long tern depression of the respiritory system would have lingering effects. It is best to get a check up. You don't want to become clean and die of something that could be fixed with a check up. Wouldn't that be ironic. I'm scheduling a check up as soon as I get back from vacation. I already know that I have problems with a fatty liver which is most likely from opiates. Always better safe than sorry.
Avatar m tn In other cases, people may have no symptoms but are at high risk for dangerously slow heart rates because of disturbances of the electrical system of the heart. A pacemaker may be recommended for these people before symptoms occur. There are no electrical disturbance shown with your post?! Because a wrong decision can be very serious I would hesitate to second quess a doctor's assessment.
Avatar n tn I went into complete heart block three days after valve replacement and this is reason for Pacemaker which paces 90% of the time for my lower chamber of heart. My clicking started in middle of summer and now is so constant that it wakes me up at night. Can not lay on my left side or it will click like crazy. My PM tech tells me I shouldn't be experiencing the clicking and even after many setting changes I'm still no better.
Avatar n tn My cat has had a sinus problem since earlier in the fall -- lots of sneezing, runny nose, etc. I took him to the vet who prescribed antibiotics. They were effective but about two weeks after completing the antibiotics, the sneezing started again. Since then we have gone throught two additional rounds of antibiotics, the latest was horrid pink stuff (Novolexin) that I could barely get down his throat!
Avatar m tn It may be something else, but opiates depress the respiratory system and a week or two after the drugs are gone your respiratory system kicks into overdrive. I've got a sponsee just over 2 weeks clean and he's goin thru the same thing. I'd get it checked just in case, the immune system is all spun off after detox. Good Luck!
Avatar n tn he is a peritonel dialysis patient too,,they cannot find out why he is having these episodes,,,,,,,his 3 month read out of his heart never shows anything to them when we sent his transmission to his doctors office,,,,a doctor today said it has to be his implant of the pacemaker,,,,,does that make sense to you..........
Avatar n tn metoprolol may not correct SOB! The pacemaker has corrected bradycardia!? The pacemaker will override any disruptions of the normal electrical impulses controlling the rate of your heart's pumping action. SOB is almost always a serious symptom...it was the only symptom for the admitting personal to put me in an emergency status, but I had other symptoms, dry cough, hyperventilating when laying down, etc . She said that is all that is needed is SOB.
Avatar n tn The report you have posted is an echo report which looks at the heart wall sizes and chamber sizes as well as the valves, it does not show the electrical system of the heart and how that is working. A pacemaker deals with the electrical system; HY is your doctor saying you need a pacemaker? What is your heart rate during exercise and rest?
Avatar n tn My Doctor suggested a pacemaker...I declined at the time because of not having any symptoms. Anyway, about a month ago after some some exhausting work building a wall in my yard I came into my house. I was quite thirsty and drank several glasses of water, I was also worn out. After laying down for several minutes I noticed that my heart was still beating pretty fast. It stayed higher than normal all night.
368646 tn?1208393887 Virus in the central nervous system would usually affect the coating of the brain (meningitis) or the brain itself (encephalitis) which could lead to brain edema, behavioral problems with or without fever. The virus does not really directly affect the blood supply of the brain which should have been compromised or blocked to cause an inschemic stroke, or make them fragile to cause a hemorrhagic one.
Avatar n tn i never felt better after receiving the pacemaker than before i got it. my wife was persistent with my doctor, after two weeks of complaing, she finally got his attention when she noted that my heart rate kept dropping innthe 30's during a medical procedure. she confronted the doctor. i was brought into the er, where they checked my pacemaker, one lead was off. when they went in to replace that lead they found the other lead off, they also found a black oily substance on my pacemaker.
Avatar f tn I stopped taking the medicine 12 days ago could it still be in my system and be causing slow heart rate 40-45 during th day.
Avatar f tn The most common possibility would be bronchial asthma. It is important to rule out respiratory system dyspnea (shortness of breath) from cardiovascular dyspnea. Or else you may have more than one problem contributing to the breathing discomfort. The most common causes of dyspnea are asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, and cardiomyopathy, valvular disorders, pericardial diseases, anemia etc. Another important possibility needed to be ruled out is myocardial infarction.
Avatar n tn I don't believe a pacemaker is used to control AFib. Perhaps your father has other heart problems. The most common use for a pacemaker is to keep the heart from beating too slow, or stopping. Some times a PM is used when the heart electrical system has to be totally shut down, in which case there would be no AFib or other arrhythmia, but this is not done to my knowledge, to control AFib.
Avatar n tn I am a software engineer which is trying to write a pacemaker system specification for a research project. My question is about what the heart does when it receives a pacemaker stimulus. Suppose that the heart is slow (eg: 1 beat every 3 second) and that the pacemaker lower rate limit is 60ppm (1 pulse every second) then what happens? how the heart reacts to our stimulus? if the heart make a contraction based on the pacemaker stimulus, then when the next natural contraction is supposed to be?
Avatar n tn Please can someone explain why a patient with a pacemaker kept her paced rhythm of 70 bpm with a fever 39.3 to 40 degrees C? I thought pacemakers could vary the rate to meet metabolic requirements. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I thought he died in front of me. He has CHF, biventricular failure, aortal backflow, a-fib and has a pacemaker w/ defibulator. I called 911 because I thought he was dying and figured his defib kicked in because after a minute he regained consciousness. I'm getting zero answers beyond "low blood pressure/orthostatic hypotension". But to me, OH would not cause the agonal respirations. WHY did he get this agnonal respirations and then came to?
Avatar f tn Hi Esther You have my sympathy, dont know if that is any help or not, My husband coughs all the time, he has had all the tests you have had (apart from the tumour). He is 59 yrs old. He was diagnosed with COPD a couple of years ago then they decided it was a heart problem so he had a pacemaker fitted about 6 weeks ago. Now they have decided that the pacemaker is working but he still has a breathing problem. He is on inhalers, nebulisers, etc etc.
Avatar n tn I started to get episodes of AF set of by bending down exercise ,drinking etc now it is controled by tablets but I still cant get back to full fitness ,i was a keen runner before but now I tire easy and can only manage a snails pace if i jog my legs drain of oxygen and seize up and my respiratory system works overtime ,do you have any idea what this may be -------- lactic acid ? poor respiration ? magnesium ?
Avatar n tn If it is indeed stopping regardless of the blood pressure issues then a pacemaker like I said before is called for. However if she has an autonomic nervous system disorder like Dysautonomia or some other neurological issue causing the problem meds may help correct the issue if it the problem is simply passing out from low blood pressure. Has your girlfriend been to a doctor who specializes in Dysautonomia? You may want to check it out if she is still having wild fluctuations in her bp.
326176 tn?1239515689 If you are having problems with bradycardia and irregular heart beats, you could have problems with your electric system of your heart. If the electric system fails, then your heart will stop. The pacemaker will help to prevent your heart from stopping. We just had a friend in his 40's die this week, because of this "the electric systems failed" and his heart stopped.
Avatar n tn The Human body is a great design and has more than one system to increase oxygen. When we are at rest, around 98% of Haemoglobin will be saturated with Oxygen, and the body only uses around 20-25% of this which leaves a LOT in reserve. If the body starts to use more and levels start to drop, we produce more Haemoglobin in bone marrow and send it into the blood stream, giving a higher saturation.
Avatar f tn Our daughter is 20 months old. She had two heart defects at birth and had a really rough start. We notice that she is frequently ill. In the last 10-12 months (ever since she stopped receiving Synagis) she has had croup 8x, she's had several sinus/upper respiratory infections, 3 or 4 ear infections, a throat infection, a couple 24 hour fevers, and now, just this past week, all in one week she developed: ear infection, oral thrush, a vaginal yeast infection, and then a viral rash.
