Pacemaker of aging

Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker of aging

pacemaker

Avatar m tn I do not believe a pacemaker in-and-of-itself can cause a change in personality. However, the fact that one needs a pacemaker may be depressing emotionally and also cause anxiety. I am only 75 (compared to 91) and I know dealing with aging is difficult at best... I men when one feels "good" as can be expected (of course less than desired). You may want to try a post on Senior Health or on Anxiety.
574170 tn?1277941303 my gf has be in the hospital for 4 weeks and she had heart problem where the heart would stop beating they put pace maker in then she had the same problem with it stop beating aging but my quesstion is with her heart like that will it be wise to hold off sex we do want to start a family soon
Avatar n tn My 90 year old mother has had a pacemaker for more than a year with no complications or problems. She lives independently, uses a walker, and is relatively active for her age. Her cardiologist wants her to come in to talk about starting to take coumadin. This is not based on any recent testing, etc. Why would she need to take such a strong blood thinner, one with so many potential complications?
Avatar m tn My nasal congestion interferes with my sleep, along with other issue of the aging. But, this congestion does not my be breathless - but I do have some dizziness problems when I arise from a resting position due I think to the heart medications I take. I'm a 1939 guy, so 8 years older than you, and believe that fact alone impacts my sleep/dream problem.
Avatar n tn It usually is the result of the aging process. You may want to see your GP to get advice on how to prevent any further calcification, there isn't any therapy unless the valve is severely dysfunctional and then there would be a replacement or repair. Does you echo indicate any enlarged heart chambers? Is the amount of blood pumped with each heartbeat normal (ejection fraction [EF], normal is 50% to 70).
Avatar f tn s terms, but make sure that your cardiologist has set the PVARP period as small as possible, because if not it may cause inappropriate pacing when beats are not sensed by the pacemaker because of this long refractory period.
Avatar f tn I had a pacemaker placed 4 months ago. Since then, I have a lot of pain and burning sensation in and around the area of the pacemaker. It feels like someone's holding a hot match against my skin in one particular area. I have sick sinus and tachybrady. I take atenolol, digoxin and have the pacemaker. I was dropping down as low as the low 30s freguently. I pace 22% of the time. Could there be a lead broken or what would cause the pain and burning?
Avatar m tn will go to some sort of national healthcare system before 2016, In 2018 the battery in my pacemaker will likely be exhausted. I do not need the pacemaker to live but but without it I would have a heartrate between 40 & 42 bpm - i.e. not one to allow me to be very active at all. In 2018 I will be a 67 year old type 2 diabetic who is likely retired (or at least semi-retired) and has a couple of other medical problems. My procedure a year ago cost over $40k.
Avatar n tn I ended up having every type of SVT except Wolf H Syndrome. My cardiologist was scared he would have to put a pacemaker in at the time and wants to go back in for another ablation 3-d mapping in 3 mths. My questions are: 1. Is it normal or common to have more than one type of SVT? 2. If I ended up with a pacemaker could I have more children? 3. What would the risk of future pregnancies be with and without the pacemaker??
Avatar m tn Fainting, near fainting, dizziness, lack of energy, fatigue, shortness of breath and exercise intolerance. Extreme slowing or complete stopping of the heartbeat can be fatal. In other cases, people may have no symptoms but are at high risk for dangerously slow heart rates because of disturbances of the electrical system of the heart. A pacemaker may be recommended for these people before symptoms occur. There are no electrical disturbance shown with your post?!
539989 tn?1218832080 pierced my lung and a chest tube had to be inserted. I still have alot of pain from where the chest tube was and I have some numbness on the left side of my back, side and arm. My chest is still extremely tender from where my pacemaker was placed. I am wondering if this is all normal. My pacemaker scar is very bad looking as well. I have had double bi-pass surgery and even that scar looked better than this one does. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Looking up side effects of Flecainide I do not see any mention of shortness of breath, a common side effect of the often taken beta blocker medications. I think you should discuss with your doctor as soon as possible.
Avatar n tn metoprolol may not correct SOB! The pacemaker has corrected bradycardia!? The pacemaker will override any disruptions of the normal electrical impulses controlling the rate of your heart's pumping action. SOB is almost always a serious symptom...it was the only symptom for the admitting personal to put me in an emergency status, but I had other symptoms, dry cough, hyperventilating when laying down, etc . She said that is all that is needed is SOB.
Avatar m tn 2) Considering her need for a higher dosage and her occasional heart block, the combo of verapimil and a pacemaker is an appropriate next step. As I recall, a member of this board, scouser costa rica, has a pacemaker like your wife's doctor is recommending and it's working out well for him (he also takes amiodarone to decrease the frequency of afib episodes and to lower his heart rate when it does occur).. 3) There are two types of ablation to consider.
Avatar n tn My mother had placement of a pacemaker 6 months ago. She was told that the battery should last 7-10 years. When she recently had her pacemaker checked the physician told her that she now has only 2 1/2 years of battery life left. Unfortunately, the reason for a loss of battery life was not given even after the question was presented. Can you help us understand what has happend.
Avatar n tn I am a 30 yr old mother of 3 with a pacemaker. I have had the pacemaker for 3 years in July. It was originally placed because of a severe problem with fainting. My heart was stopping for nearly 50 seconds(documented) during these syncope episodes. The pacemaker has basically cured this problem. At my last visit they said it was working 25% of the time. Whatever that means. But now the pacemaker unit has shifted for the second time.
Avatar m tn After getting the pacemaker, my BP readings have been progressively worst week by week. Befor the pacemaker, for years my top (systolic) readings used to around 110 to max of around 160, and after the pacemaker, they even reached worst level of around 190, and yesterday scary level of 225. - Even though my family phys added Clonidine to previous BP-meds of Altace, HCTZ, and Cardura, my BP keeps moving higher an higehr each week... I never had so high numbers before the pacemaker.
Avatar m tn s pacer, I have a Biometric, but EVERY pacemaker I know of gives you access to the manufacturer and consultants on the card.
Avatar f tn Are they speaking of another pacemaker or of a biventricular ICD (implantable cardio defibrillator)? The guidelines indicates that bellow 30% EF, the ICD is recommended to avoid risk of sudden death. If this is the case probably they need to extract the existing leads, which is a delicate operation. The use of bivent pacing is recommended if the movement of the ventricles is not in sync. Or she has a long QRS interval (more than 120ms). In those cases she might feel better after implant.
Avatar n tn SVT brought on by physical activity would be in the neighborhood of 250, and I had plenty of them. What finally prompted my EP study and ablation was I had been experiencing 3 to 5 episodes per month. I finally caught two by wearing a 30 day monitor. This caused my cardiologist immediate concern as he had never actually seen me in SVT, and when he saw, he believed.
Avatar n tn And two, in the setting of this A fib and a slow heart rhythm, putting in a pacemaker may reduce the amount of atrial fibrillation you're having. But more importantly, the presence of a pacemaker will allow your doctor to put you on anti-arrhythmic medications safely. If you have a tendency for a very slow heart rhythm, if you were placed on and anti-arrhythmic medication, your heart rate may get so slow you could get dizzy or pass out.
Avatar n tn My husband is totally dependent on the pacemaker and we want to keep that part of it operational, but NOT the defib portion of it. I didn't know you could have one without the other.
