pacemaker

Avatar n tn For example, if her mind was in such a state where no one could care for her unless she was heavily sedated in a nursing home, we would consider removing the pacemaker. For now, I believe we did the right thing.
Avatar n tn My mom had shydraggers syndrome. I was in the same predicament as you. Knowone in the family could take care of her. We took care of her for a long time while she was sick, but she got so bad in her sickness, that we eventually had to put her in a nursing home. She did die from the disease about 5 years ago. She went peacefully in her sleep. The main thing is that she knows you love her and support her.
Avatar m tn I have a close friend who has been told by her doctor that her pacemaker will only last up to 6 months. She has no insurance and is low income. Does anyone know how to help her with this. She has been going to different clinics and is exploring every avenue but keeps being told no one can help her. Can anyone give advice on how to help her.
Avatar n tn She told the nurse in the ICCU that she did not want a pacemaker and just wanted to have relief from the pain. The hospital has her advanced directives on file and she is designated as DNR. She made me promise that I would not let them put in a pacemaker. But, as the pain worsened and they wouldn't give her anything for it, the doctor and nurse told her that the pacemaker was the only way to make the pain go away.
Avatar f tn The use of E-33 for diabetic wound care is not acceptable nursing home practice.
Avatar m tn It's a good thing to consider because there will be someone who will look after for your loved ones 24 hours a day who are having this kind of disease. In fact, some families consider a nursing home for their aging loved ones who mostly facing Alzheimer also. They believe that any nursing home can accommodate and will take care of their loved ones, as well as to protect them and make them feel valued and loved.
Avatar m tn All of the nursing homes are crummy and I don't agree with a nursing home stay as a cure or treatment for depression. Nursing homes are necessary and fulful a definite need, but psychiatric treatment is not one of those needs. In the best nursing homes there is a shortage of staff. They treat "depression" with a chemical straightjacket. Furthermore, the diet in most homes is lacking and good nutrition is part and parcel of treatment for depression.
Avatar n tn My father, 89, recently had a pacemaker inserted due to bradycardia. His PMD and internal medicine specialist started him on Coumadin afterwards. Since my step-mother had been hospitalized a week before with GI bleeding due to long term (20 years) effects of Coumadin, my father is reluctant to keep on with the medication now he's at home.
659608 tn?1318289366 I told her she could fall anyway, because she is unsteady and could end up in a nursing home anyway, and if the dementia continues, would just prolong her life in a way she would not want. Other family members think it should be done, even though she has requested not to do anyithing to prolong her life, or to ressitate her. Can the heart stop during the Cardio Version, and if so how would her DNR apply? I am very confused on what is the right thing to do. I need to know soon. Thank You.
Avatar f tn My mom is 89, had a stroke, diabetic, almost blind, living in a nursing home for 3 years. Her pacemake is going out, it is to regulate her heart beat. My mom did not want to have artificial means to be kept alive. She just lays in bed hurting. Our question is this, is the pacemake an artificial mean? Her doctor says without the new one, she will be gone in 1 to 3 months.
Avatar m tn He is frail, has congestive heart failure, and lives in a nursing home. The cardiologist there said that he needed to replace his 8 year old pacemaker. Obviously, the operation would require transportation to a hospital. Does this make sense? Is the risk of an adverse outcome outweight the risk of not having the operation performed? Thanks for your thoughts on this.
Avatar f tn They did try to shut it all down with the catheter ablation but ran into problems with the phrenic nerve. I am all for the idea of being fully paced, but not with the thought of also not being able to breathe unassisted. I was so disappointed when I woke up from that surgery only to find that they were not able to complete the goal.
Avatar m tn This is probably a weird question for the ages! Last week, I had a pacemaker removed because the wound was irritated. The pacemaker was replaced, the pacemaker pocket in the doctor's words "washed out" and the incision closed with steri strips. A few days later, my incision started leaking a golden liquid that I immediately recognized as Betadine or similar. About a week after the surgery, I'm sick. I'm running a low fever, headache, and feel horrible.
Avatar f tn There was a big fire in Canada at a nursing home recently. Any smokers involved????? Add this to your reasons to quit.
Avatar f tn I understand that smoking is extremely addictive, but there are certain things we do for our kid that are very hard, and one of them is being pregnant, taking care of our bodies while pregnant and nursing (and I am not even talking about giving birth!). That is only the start of a difficult life of a parent. So, let me give you the facts that you probably already know, but they are important to repeat.
484160 tn?1343397921 I have done some research and I have some issues wit her current medical care. First, they diagnosed her with a heart attack. Then they took out her gallbladder on the 10th of this month. Now they are calling it diabetic stomach (gastroparesis). She has been throwing up uncontrollably off and on for 2 years. She went in on the 10th and they removed her gallbladder. She went home from that and was back in the hospital on the 14th or 15th.
Avatar f tn Have any women thought of choosing "kangaroo care" over the normal care of having a nurse wash and.swaddle your.baby before he/she is handed to.you? If you have thought about it what's option are you wanting to be part of.your birth plan or if you have chosen to do.it this way how was the.experience?
Avatar n tn There have been cases of infection from the insertion of the pacemaker. There may even be an occasional rare care of allergic reaction to the metal in the device. Beyond that, I don't know of an auto immune "rejection" of the device.
Avatar f tn Doctors will not operate on AAA or pacemaker replacement due to frailness. What can I expect as the battery on the pacemaker fails?
Avatar f tn The pacemaker itself should not be a deterent from having an ablation. I've had a pacemaker for 6 years (because of an ablation actually), and then had another ablation about a year ago. Unfortunately, the ablations don't work for me, but I have IST, not SVT so hopefully they're more effective for that.
Avatar n tn My husband had a Medtronic Insync II Marquis pacemaker/defilrillator inplanted in 3/04. Even though he is end-stage & under the care of Hospice, we have been blessed with a pain free illness and would like to keep it that way. Can the defib portion of the pacemaker be turned off so that it does not interfere with a peaceful, painfree death when the time comes?
341190 tn?1295467125 Hi All, I had a pacemaker fitted last april since then i have been really tired, i have had a few problems along the way, my lung collapsed then i had water on it now i have blood on it, but it,s the tiredness i cant cope with even if i sleep for over 12 hours, im wondering if anyone else has been through this.
Avatar f tn hello my uncle who lives with me had a pacemaker fitted 2m ago he was given tablets to take [ furosemide 2.2mg ] since he has been takeing them his breathing is not right wen he talks he misses out words cos he cant catch his breath i took him doctors and gave less mg 20mg could it have been tablets that caused this problem he still gets out of breath quickly ?
Avatar m tn I don't think that's the general use of a pacemaker. People usually get them because their heart rate is too low and the pacer will keep it up where it belongs (60-65 bpm). PVC's are so random and unpredictable, I don't know how a pacer would correct that.
Avatar m tn My father had a stroke in July and at the time he didn't qualify for therapy... he was in a semi vegetative state & required a peg tube. He was discharged to a skilled nursing home & his prognosis was not great. We started the process of applying for Medicaid for long term care which he was approved for. However, my father was a fighter and began to recover quickly!
