Pacemaker not working

Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker not working

pacemaker

Avatar f tn Have you found out how much her pacemaker is working? If it is working at 100%, she could have these symptoms. My mom's pacemaker was working at 100% when sitting and a little less than 100% when walking around. She was dizzy, confused, forgot things, tired, and depressed.
Avatar n tn If the pacemaker is the only concern, in other words he is not dealing with any other heart diseases such as a cardiomyopathy, he will have a normal life span. The pacemaker batteries last for years and before the batteries stop working, there are signs of that happening months before the pacemaker stops working. His doctor will have plenty of time to have the pacemaker battery replaced.
Avatar n tn I do not know what model your father has and even if I did would not know how it works, I just know how mine works and it seems to be working well so far. The pacemaker part of it is programmed to record heart rate that is too fast, my heart rate usually runs at 120 beats per minute but is not considered fast enough to do serious damage by my electrophysiologist so mine is programmed to slow things down if my heart rate reaches 135 beats per minute.
Avatar m tn Is there any other tests than a MRI for finding a tissue injury ? I have an ICD/PACEMAKER and can not have a MRI. I injured my shoulder several months ago and have tried cortazone injections and physical therapy. I have been taking celebrex and ice , moist heat but the pain has not stopped.

Avatar m tn at that you may need a pacemaker, then they are worried about you irradict heart rate. A pacemaker will help keep your heart rates at an optimal level, while both working out and when at rest.
Avatar m tn I recently had a pacemaker installed due to heart block. Prior to the surgery I experienced no symptoms. No fatigue or lightheadedness, in fact I didn't even know there was a problem until the EKG. Since the surgery, I am so fatigued and have a pins and needles feeling in my head and neck. Last week I was told that the top portion of the pacemaker was not working, but that I didn't need it.
Avatar n tn You have to show your card that you have a pacemaker or ICD and they will scan you with a hand held wand. They should NOT hold the wand over your pacemaker.
Avatar n tn Hi, Yes, changes in blood pressure with a pacemaker should alert you about the replacement of the pacemaker, because if your mother is completely dependant upon the pace maker for her heart beat, then this will affect her heart rate and hence the pressures. It is necessary to consult a cardiologist immediately for a temporary pace maker, to support the heart rate while he changes the pacemaker. Hope this helps. Best.
Avatar n tn The problem is, with rates below fifty, the atrial pacemaker is not working. Usually this is because there is dead tissue (an infarct), however the atrial pacemaker may be destroyed. Your rate indicates you are on the back-up pacemaker site. There are rare exceptions to this, but normally a rate such as yours does not come from the atrial pacemaker site. The rate comes from the last-ditch-emergency back-up site.
341190 tn?1295467125 Yes, I have experienced what you are reporting. An important question... at the time of the pacer implantation, were you prescribed any new medications, or existing medications bumped up in dosage? After my pacer was implanted, I became quite tired easily, as you described. I had them check it again, and it was re-programmed, I was told the pacer was working me too hard. It was adjusted and I felt much better.
Avatar n tn You have suffered a great injustice, and I'm sorry for your experience. I do not know what the black substance was, or what the results of exposure may be. However, the skipped beats may be caused simply by confusion in the heart muscle itself. Your heart cells are all capable of contracting and causing the heart to beat. Usually, this job is segregated to specific cells that most people refer to as the "natrual pacemaker.
Avatar n tn We protested the findings so they scheduled a 6 month appt for June 2022. At that time, a 2nd technician said the pacemaker had pretty much been working at its lowest capacity since Feb. 2022 which accounted for the reason my husband was feeling horrible, had no stamina, was sleeping 18 hours a day etc. It was finally replaced on July 6th, 2022 but since then, he is experiencing AFIB, shortness of breath and swollen ankles and leg.
Avatar m tn Just to add, the pacemaker is adjusted to pace at the setting put into it. It doesn't 'need' beta blockers to actually function properly. Beta blockers are a medication to prevent your heart over working and allow the muscle to be more relaxed. It will also lower your blood pressure to some extent.
Avatar n tn I am a 30 yr old mother of 3 with a pacemaker. I have had the pacemaker for 3 years in July. It was originally placed because of a severe problem with fainting. My heart was stopping for nearly 50 seconds(documented) during these syncope episodes. The pacemaker has basically cured this problem. At my last visit they said it was working 25% of the time. Whatever that means. But now the pacemaker unit has shifted for the second time.
Avatar n tn Is the pacemaker actually working? Are the settings correct? It sounds like sounds like he may be going into a dysrhythmia and the pacemaker not kicking in, therefore causing him a lack of oxygen to brain so he passed out? He may be dropping his heart rate too low and the pacemaker not kicking in lick it should be, therefore causing him to pass out.
Avatar n tn She has to be careful to know what to avoid with having a pacemaker. High power lines can actually cause the pacemaker to stop working and then she would need to get another one.
Avatar f tn The ventricular part is 100% pacemaker, the Atrial was only 3% pacemaker. I found out 3 weeks ago the Atrial is now 49% pacemaker. The Atrial has been going down for 2 years. What effect will that have with my double chamber pacemaker. Apparently my Cardiologist foresaw this happening, I hope. Is it natural to lose all of the electricity in your heart and still do fine with your pacemaker? My new Cardiologists don't seem at all concerned.
492869 tn?1285018933 I too am curious about the two pacemakers. Are they working well for you? What exactly does a stomach pacemaker do? Do you feel the pacemakers actively pacing? All of this is unknown to me since I've never had a pacemaker.
Avatar n tn The report you have posted is an echo report which looks at the heart wall sizes and chamber sizes as well as the valves, it does not show the electrical system of the heart and how that is working. A pacemaker deals with the electrical system; HY is your doctor saying you need a pacemaker? What is your heart rate during exercise and rest?
351404 tn?1299489130 I have had a dual chamber pacemaker implanted and am waiting for an AV node ablation very shortly. I know that the pacemaker so far will not be controlling the AFib which now seems permanent. However, I am told that after the AV node is destroyed, I will notice the effects of AFib much less as the chaotic signals will not be transmitted to the venticles. I am on 200 mg Flecainide daily and also 7.5mg Bisoprolol.
Avatar n tn In my experience, when a Pacemaker is inserted by a Cardiologist, a representative by the Pacemaker manufacturer follows up the insertion and programs the pacemaker in the hospital. It's not unusual that it has to be tweaked from time to time. If your husband still isn't feeling right, I'd request that you contact your Cardiologist and ask for a manufacturer's rep to be present to review the history of your heart beats since it was inserted.

Avatar m tn Eventually the brain is going to stop working and the pacemaker will not be able to keep her alive. Just wondering how much longer you do stay alive with the pacemaker?? It has to extend your life. As I see it, what are we extending??
Avatar m tn My mother, quite sick, in the hospital, and my wife and I received a call that we need to come in, they didn't expect her to live through the day. She was even sporting a "Do not Resuscitate" wrist band. Decisions were made, surgery was done, and they provided her with a pacemaker. At that time, she had shortly after moved into a home (big place, they have a visiting hair dresser, play games, have a bar (no alcohol, but it has the ambiance). Several things.
