Pacemaker modes atrial fibrillation

Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker modes atrial fibrillation

pacemaker

Avatar n tn s important to realize that pacemakers are not an effective treatment for atrial fibrillation, but many patients with atrial fibrillation have a pacemaker to allow your doctor to put you on medications. It also will also not treat your PVC's.
Avatar m tn //www.webmd.com/heart-disease/atrial-fibrillation/pacemaker-for-atrial-fibrillation "People with atrial fibrillation may need a pacemaker for a variety of reasons. These reasons include: You have atrial fibrillation that comes and goes. And you have a fast heart rate when you are in atrial fibrillation and a slow heart rate when you are not in atrial fibrillation. This is called tachy-brady syndrome. You had an AV node ablation procedure that destroyed the AV node in your heart.
Avatar f tn Wishing the best and hope you will start a new thread to share your experience. Might start that thread under a subject like "My experience with a pacemaker" or something more specific like "Pacemaker treatment of atrial fibrillation" something specific to you experience. I for one would benefit. You could introduce and then cut/past/edit you reply above for a starter.
Avatar m tn Today January 9th I am in the hospital for Atrial Fibrillation (150 bpm) and flutters and they are trying to drop my heart rate. Could these be caused by the Pacemaker?
Avatar m tn Due to various arrhythmic problems, my A/V node was ablated 12 years ago and therefore I am totally pacemaker dependent. . My atrail fibrillation/flutter has been somewhat controlled over the years by various medications , none of which have been successful for long terms. I am now scheduled for a cardioversion procedure. What precautions should be taken to protect my pacer and leads from damage due to the shock voltage? Should the doctor have a standby replacement pacer ready?
Avatar n tn Based on your story, I'm assuming your problem is with atrial fibrillation and will answer the question based on this. Generally speaking, there are many treatment options available. I would first start by telling you to see an arrhythmia specialist called an electrophysiologist given your multiple issues with atrial fibrillation. There are multiple medications that can be tried.
Avatar f tn I believe a pacemaker has little, even no, effect on Atrial Flutter or Fibrillation. Thus, I conclude, it is reasonable to have an ablation when also using a pacemaker. I guess the pacemaker is there to keep your HR from falling too low, it will do nothing about any extra beats that come from the Flutter problem. Good luck, let us know how it goes. We can always use current experience on ablation work for more questions that will continue to come in.
Avatar n tn i have atrial fibrillation and chf my doc want to put a Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator in me and was wondering if thats a life time thing or can i get mt heart stringer and not need it any more ?
Avatar n tn My otherwise healthy 86 yo. mom was diagnised with Atrial Fibrillation and was admitted to the hospital for seven days. She is otherwise very healthy and was only on Hyzaar for blood pressure prior. She was told her heart was strong and showed minimal damage, chest Xray proved negative, stress test was passed with exceptional results, but was kept hospitalized until her heart rate stopped spiking. She is now on 5.0 mill.
Avatar n tn Will a two-lead Pacemaker have any effect on my activity levels? How will the Pacemaker affect the AFib? I barely notice the AFib when exercising, but a try on a beta blocker kept my heartrate so low I couldn't ride my bike. Is there any advantage to getting the Pacemaker now vs waiting?
Avatar m tn His atrial fibrillation will likely recur in this case, as his ejection fraction is low. He may be able to use other medications such as tikosyn, dronaderone or sotalol to keep him in rhythm. If he is not symptomatic with the atrial fibrillation he may simply need to be rate controlled and anticoagulated with coumadin. What is the etiology of his cardiomyopathy?
Avatar m tn My question is this, since the blood clot that caused the stroke was apparently caused by the heart problem, would not her now having a pacemaker prevent a recurrence of the atrial fibrillation? And IF your answer is yes, then why would she need to be on the blood thinner for the rest of our life?
Avatar m tn Here at the Cleveland clinic we usually quote an 80% success rate of curing atrial fibrillation in patients who have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (on and of afib, not your case). Persistent atrial fibrillation (your case) has a much lower success rate of about 65 to 70%. These number are usually achieved with one ablation in 50%, two in 20% and three in 10% of patients. So as you can see we do take people for as we call them "three-do's", but it is not very common.
Avatar m tn I have a "pacemaker and chronic atrial fibrillation and palpitations" and still very active at 95. my computer replies no information available. anyone else has this condition and what can be done about it? Avatar m tn 24 hrs Holter monitoring revealed basic rhythm to be sinus with maximum heart rate of 143 bpm, minimum heart rate of 49 bpm, average being 67 bpm.1 episode of short Atrial Fibrillation noted. No sinus pause or higher grades of AV-block noted. Occasional supraventrilcular ectopic beats and couplets,1 ventricular ectopic beat were also noted during the period of monitoring. Bundle branch block pattern noted. Is the condition serious? Will she need Pacemaker? I am very worried. Thank you.
Avatar n tn I have always had high blood pressure until recently ,I also have atrial fibrillation ,my heart became slow and irregular dropping into the 30's at times and my blood preesure was low bottom number even dipping into the 30's now it fluctuates its about 120/75 sometimes but then it drops to 84/40 sometimes even lower . I have had a pscemaker for about one month now. Is this normal or is something else going on?
Avatar f tn Are there alternatives to coumadin for treating atrial fibrillation in an 89 year old male? This discussion is related to Live Health Chat: Atrial Fibrillation, April 13th (Special Guest Dr. Bruce Lindsay, Cleveland Clinic).
Avatar n tn Also, there are certain types of pacemakers which can prevent atrial fibrillation or reduce the duration of atrial fibrillation by special types of pacing responses to atrial premature contractions that usually trigger AF. Of course, if the patient is continually in AF, this will not work. Pacemaker insertion can be considered if any of the options are associated with your condition. You may discuss about these with your cardiologist.
Avatar m tn Hi - my husband had a dual chamber pacemaker implanted 4 days ago for Sick Sinus Syndrome (with 2 to 4 second pauses) and Atrial Fibrillation. After the procedure, the surgeon indicated that it was difficult to position the atrial lead due to mild cardiomegaly and it dislodged within the first 24 hours. The electrophysiologist deactivated the atrial lead explaining that it targeted Atrial Fib and was primarily for quality of life, whereas the ventricle lead targeted bradycardia and pauses.
942410 tn?1274047074 m sure you know. It is taken to reduce clot formation caused by something line Atrial Fibrillation or mechanical heart valves. I have never heard of it being needed for PACs or Bradycardia, but that is not a medical opinion. I think most doctors will recommend aspirin if the risk factors for clot formation are low, and Warfarin (Coumadin) if there are several risk factors.
Avatar m tn I have had problems with atrial fibrillation since 1996. I had my first cardiac ablation in Oct. 2002 with most of the work being done on the right atrium. I had my next ablation done in April of 2005 and I had a problem with my heart getting a hole in it so the procedure was stopped. In August the cardiac ablation was finished. I did fairly well until late last year. I had another cardiac ablation done in May.
