Pacemaker insertion subclavian

Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker insertion subclavian

pacemaker

Avatar m tn The pain associated with an implanted pacemaker may be musculoskeletal or nerve related. Most likely related to the minor surgery required for insertion of the pacemaker. This type of pain related to the incision should heal within weeks. If you have persistent chest pain at the site of the pacemaker, it might be reasonable to see your doctor so that possible causes can be evaluated.
Avatar n tn will there be personality changes after pacemaker insertion? My son is 24 and fears becoming"hyper",he now is fairly "laid back".Is this unfounded?
Avatar n tn In my experience, when a Pacemaker is inserted by a Cardiologist, a representative by the Pacemaker manufacturer follows up the insertion and programs the pacemaker in the hospital. It's not unusual that it has to be tweaked from time to time. If your husband still isn't feeling right, I'd request that you contact your Cardiologist and ask for a manufacturer's rep to be present to review the history of your heart beats since it was inserted.
Avatar n tn Normally, she should not have such pain after the insertion of the pacemaker. Maybe its position is causing some muscle spasm that is affecting her arm. The best option is to take her back to the doctor who inserted the pacemaker and explain the situation to him. If she has some fever, it may mean that the pacemaker place is infected and needs an urgent intervention.
Avatar m tn We are trying to figure out if we should go direclty to the insertion of a pacemaker vs. an ablasion procedure. Since ablasion procedure may need to be repeated and flecainide (drug after ablasion) is questionable, should we just go directly to the pacemaker?
Avatar f tn In medicine, subclavian steal syndrome (SSS), also called subclavian steal phenomenon or subclavian steal steno-occlusive disease, is a constellation of signs and symptoms that arise from retrograde (reversed) flow of blood in the vertebral artery or the internal thoracic artery, due to a proximal stenosis (narrowing) and/or occlusion of the subclavian artery.
Avatar m tn Had my pacemaker/defibrillator replaced a week ago. Doc had trouble threading leads into heart. I was under these cameras, which I believe are the same for heart cath, for 4.5 hours. Can this much radiation all at once be dangerous? I have been nauseated and dragging since procedure.
Avatar f tn I got a pacemaker June 20th on the left side. There has been swelling in my left shoulder and arm from almost the time I got the pacemaker. The left side of my neck is contantly stiff. A venogram showed no clots. The shoulder and are feel very tight and the left arm is obviously larger than the right arm to the naked eye. My cardiologist said this is unusual but didn't think I have anything to worry about. Did my surgeon put the pacemaker in incorrectly? Is it crimping my vein?
Avatar f tn I am on my 3rd pacemaker after an ablation and pacemaker insertion 12 years ago. Since my new one on the 5th of May was ok with the exception of lacking energy to walk far. Prior to my last insertion i was walking 4k's a day. Since then no way. i went back to my Doctor 4 weeks ago and told him. He said he would make it more sensitive. Then I experienced headaches amd feelings of nausea on many occasions. i went back the following week to be told my BP had gone sky high. 160/102.
Avatar n tn My father, 89, recently had a pacemaker inserted due to bradycardia. His PMD and internal medicine specialist started him on Coumadin afterwards. Since my step-mother had been hospitalized a week before with GI bleeding due to long term (20 years) effects of Coumadin, my father is reluctant to keep on with the medication now he's at home.
1466984 tn?1310560608 I used to be an Ultrasound tech, and have actually seen Subclavian Steals numerous times over the years. They aren't common, but I'd see a handful each year. It can usually be easily diagnosed with a carotid ultrasound that also includes the vertebral arteries. With a Subclavian Steal, the blood pressures are usually different between the arms (but not always), with the arm with the Steal having the lower pressure. This is due to the blockage restricting the blood flow.
Avatar n tn I recently had stent placed on my left subclavian artery as it was 90% occluded. I had quadruple bypass surgery 13 years ago( using the left internal mammary artery grafting to the left anterior descending coronary) and recently had been having increasing jaw pains and upper back pains ( no dizziness or fainting).
Avatar f tn Could you tell me about what choices are out there for a by-pass (Subclavian Artery) using man-made material or possible pig artery? How long will they last? Why would a doctor want to use part of me when I have already had 4 left/1 right common iliac stent placement and Rt. Carotid Endarterectomy with patch? The block is in a very usual place and too blocked for a stent.
Avatar n tn The left Internal Mammary (LIMA) is a branch of the subclavian artery and if LIMA is used for bypass, subclavian stenosis can cause problem with blood supply to the heart. Depending on the stenosis this can be treated with a percutaneous catheter based procedure/ stent, and may not require surgery.
Avatar f tn The American Heart Association Guidelines list a range of indications for permanent pacemaker insertion, including a period of asystole lasting more than 3.0 seconds. Does your 2.8 second pause warrant pacemaker insertion? Once again, this should only be considered in patients without an underlying reversible cause such as hypokalemia or pauses occurring in the presence of SVT. A repeat Holter following correction of your hypokalemia will be important. I hope this information helps.
306245 tn?1244384967 Thank heaven he finally listened to you! Now at least you will have access to another cardiologist, albeit in another state! I have worked in pedi heart surgery but it has been a long time ago. My guess would be that he would only be in a couple of days, unless they have plans for a more thorough evaluation, which might be likely. Kids bounce back quickly, typically. We would have some that had simple open heart surgery and would be happily playing in their crib in 2 days, asking for soda!
Avatar f tn I have low BP (from as low as 80/40), i was recently diagnosed with blockage of the left subclavian artery, my ECG and echo are normal. Is there a way of alleviating this condition without surgery?
Avatar n tn The peripheral artery studies showed the discordant pressure between my two arms, and my arteriogram showed 100% blockage of my left subclavian artery. I had the arteriogram done because I was supposed to get a stent placed in my left subcalvian artery; however, once the doctor saw that it was 100% blocked, he decided against the procedure and referred me to a surgeon who specializes in heart diseases (he is board certified in vascular, thoracic, and cardiology).
Avatar f tn The maximum ascending aortic diameter is 3.6 cm at the level of the pulmonary artery. Subclavian veins appear patent bilaterally and subclavian arteries are widely patent as well. Impression: Unremarkable thoracic aorta without evidence of aneurysm. No significant change in the appearance of the ascending aorta when compared to the CT can from 2009.
Avatar f tn I finally got a throat/upper chest CT with dye and the results said that I had an aberrant right subclavian artery. The doctor says this is whats causing my symptoms. But as for the whole palpitation thing and the pressure in my chest..I am not sure..I dont think he knew. I am scared it is my heart. Or there is something else...I cannot find an explanation for it. And I hate feeling like I am being strangled all day.
Avatar n tn An internal defibrillator is not a pacemaker as most folks understand a pacemaker to be. It's really called an implant cardioverter defibrillator and in my case,a single lead model attached to my left ventrical and is supposed to arrest ventricular tachycardia. it does this two ways. 1 thru cardioversion which is very aggresive pacemaking. Mine is programmed to perform cardioversion thru 15 beats.
Avatar n tn I have a history of subclavian artery being occluded and brachial plexus lesions--due to thoracic outlet and had surgery last year to remove ribs. I was a rare case and had a lot of damage. No surgery was done to repair anything. I was told it would be a long time to heal and had 50% damage. Test in hospital visit shows my subclavian vein still narrowed, and they could not conclude anything with the artery due to view being poor.
Avatar m tn He has already gone over the risks high chance of ending up with a pacemaker. I will have to stay in the hospital over night to have my heart continuously monitored. I wanted to hear some other stories from people who have had this procedure, how long was the hospital stay? when did you go back to work? any complications?
