pacemaker

Avatar f tn I was giving a shot of adenosine which only brought my heart rate back down to 123. At the emergency department doctor looked over the ecg he said I was not in SVT and it was just sinus tachycardia. The doctor believed it was do to dehydration. I went to my cardiologists for the monitor and wore it for 2 weeks the findings where sinus tachycardia, and a pause of 2.8sec. while awake.
Avatar m tn The pain associated with an implanted pacemaker may be musculoskeletal or nerve related. Most likely related to the minor surgery required for insertion of the pacemaker. This type of pain related to the incision should heal within weeks. If you have persistent chest pain at the site of the pacemaker, it might be reasonable to see your doctor so that possible causes can be evaluated.
Avatar n tn will there be personality changes after pacemaker insertion? My son is 24 and fears becoming"hyper",he now is fairly "laid back".Is this unfounded?
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, the HMO I belong to in Northern California has a durable materials department that won’t allow the pacemaker to be changed until it has drained down and is in the “end of it’s life” mode. I was at a wedding destination 10 hours away when the pacemaker decided it was time. It was terrible; I could barely walk and had no energy whatsoever. Thank goodness, my husband was there to lean on constantly.
Avatar n tn In my experience, when a Pacemaker is inserted by a Cardiologist, a representative by the Pacemaker manufacturer follows up the insertion and programs the pacemaker in the hospital. It's not unusual that it has to be tweaked from time to time. If your husband still isn't feeling right, I'd request that you contact your Cardiologist and ask for a manufacturer's rep to be present to review the history of your heart beats since it was inserted.
Avatar n tn I called my public health department to ask about PEP. They had referred me to my local emergency room. The doctor at the emergency room says that my state regulates who they prescribe the medicine to and that my case wasn't reliable when it came to sources. He referred me to the public health department. He assured me that it was all hearsay and to get tested. Was that right? Can they do that? What are my odds of actually contracting it? Is there anything else I can do now?
Avatar n tn Normally, she should not have such pain after the insertion of the pacemaker. Maybe its position is causing some muscle spasm that is affecting her arm. The best option is to take her back to the doctor who inserted the pacemaker and explain the situation to him. If she has some fever, it may mean that the pacemaker place is infected and needs an urgent intervention.
Avatar m tn We are trying to figure out if we should go direclty to the insertion of a pacemaker vs. an ablasion procedure. Since ablasion procedure may need to be repeated and flecainide (drug after ablasion) is questionable, should we just go directly to the pacemaker?
Avatar f tn I got a pacemaker June 20th on the left side. There has been swelling in my left shoulder and arm from almost the time I got the pacemaker. The left side of my neck is contantly stiff. A venogram showed no clots. The shoulder and are feel very tight and the left arm is obviously larger than the right arm to the naked eye. My cardiologist said this is unusual but didn't think I have anything to worry about. Did my surgeon put the pacemaker in incorrectly? Is it crimping my vein?
Avatar f tn I am on my 3rd pacemaker after an ablation and pacemaker insertion 12 years ago. Since my new one on the 5th of May was ok with the exception of lacking energy to walk far. Prior to my last insertion i was walking 4k's a day. Since then no way. i went back to my Doctor 4 weeks ago and told him. He said he would make it more sensitive. Then I experienced headaches amd feelings of nausea on many occasions. i went back the following week to be told my BP had gone sky high. 160/102.
Avatar n tn My father, 89, recently had a pacemaker inserted due to bradycardia. His PMD and internal medicine specialist started him on Coumadin afterwards. Since my step-mother had been hospitalized a week before with GI bleeding due to long term (20 years) effects of Coumadin, my father is reluctant to keep on with the medication now he's at home.
Avatar n tn You should definitely be on prenatal vitamins if you are not, but you really need to go to the dentist. Call your County health department and explain your situation, don't fail to mention that you are pregnant. See what services they have for people with low or no income. Also see if your local dentist's association has anyone who will take payments. It is very bad for a pregnant women to have cavities (if that is what is going on) because it can put bacteria into her system.
Avatar m tn However I was not sure if my memory was accurate and sought PEP treatment from an Accident and Emergency hospital department. I was provided with PEP and began taking it however I also subsequently found the persons phone number and asked if a condom had been used and they confirmed that a condom had indeed been used. My question is, I think I felt the condom with my hand before insertion and the other person said one had been used so is the continuation of PEP recommended?
Avatar n tn There are rare exceptions to this, but normally a rate such as yours does not come from the atrial pacemaker site. The rate comes from the last-ditch-emergency back-up site. If this is the case it makes good sense to get a demand pacemaker while you are still relatively healthy.
1790532 tn?1329313506 My apology Diana for the mixed up names! What was I thinking? LOL I am sure your Oncologist knows what's best for you and it's not unusual to reduce the dose and sometimes even delay your chemotherapy treatment until your low white blood cell count increases. Please copy and paste the link below for information on how to manage "neutropenia" (WBC) and I hope it helps. http://www.chemotherapy.com/side_effects/white_blood_cell/managing_low_count.html You too take care Diana....
Avatar m tn now have a pacemaker set for 60bpm. Medication is flecanaide with the idea of reducing the HR so the pacemaker controls the rate. After 3 years being OK I am now getting rapid heart rate at night & sometimes during the day wirh a subsequent feeling of exhaustion. I also have light headed spells. Should I be worried?
Avatar f tn If one shows up at the hospital because they need their batteries replaced on the pace maker in the chest. Will they see you at the emergency room. is a battery needing to be replaced is this considered an emergency? Say, like if you were having a heart attack., I'm pretty sure they'd treat you, even if you don't have insurance.
754751 tn?1241304207 having run and EKG department, I have never seen anyone recieve a pacemaker for a PVC/PAC issue unless there was some kind of an underlying and sometimes serious heart problem going on.
Avatar n tn My daughter had a duel chamber pacemaker for years without any difficulty from that pacemaker at all and she had very severe heart disease that eventually ended with a transplant. She was having presyncope and syncope and went into shock the one time the doctors had the gutds to do the tiltr test on her. With a pacemaker you may have a two inch scar from the insert, but so what??? Are you more concerned about a scar at your age or dying?
306245 tn?1244384967 Thank heaven he finally listened to you! Now at least you will have access to another cardiologist, albeit in another state! I have worked in pedi heart surgery but it has been a long time ago. My guess would be that he would only be in a couple of days, unless they have plans for a more thorough evaluation, which might be likely. Kids bounce back quickly, typically. We would have some that had simple open heart surgery and would be happily playing in their crib in 2 days, asking for soda!
Avatar f tn Dear Shabna, The reason that there are 2 incisions for the pacemaker placement is that your child is an infant, which means that the pacemaker is an epicardial pacemaker system. This means that the pacemaker leads have to be attached to the outside of the heart, and this is separate from the placement of the pacemaker generator in the abdomen. Your father, as an adult with large blood vessels, has a transvenous pacemaker system.
Avatar m tn Recently she simultaneously developed Bradycardia, which became life threatening and hence she had to undergo a pacemaker implantation on an emergency basis. Now while the pacemaker is working perfectly, and the heart doctors are happy with her progress, she seems to have developed a tendency for severe shooting headches that start from around her neck region and go on to the brain.
Avatar n tn metoprolol may not correct SOB! The pacemaker has corrected bradycardia!? The pacemaker will override any disruptions of the normal electrical impulses controlling the rate of your heart's pumping action. SOB is almost always a serious symptom...it was the only symptom for the admitting personal to put me in an emergency status, but I had other symptoms, dry cough, hyperventilating when laying down, etc . She said that is all that is needed is SOB.
326176 tn?1239515689 Presently I am advised Electrophysiological study and pacemaker implantation, followed by CAG cath. The irregualarity in heart rhythm is not troubling me much except when I lie down to sleep in the night. My question : Do I have to submit myself to the above mentioned procedures on an emergency basis OR Will I be able to postpone it further.(for obvious reasons including lack of funds).?
