675084 tn?1233087505 Can your pacemaker be set to make your heart beat a certain rate? My mom's Medtronic pacemaker would not allow her heart to beat under 70 beats per minute. She had a dual pacemaker. Ask your doctor if they can set your pacemaker.
Avatar n tn My normal pulse rate with out pacemaker is 54 ppm. My dual lead pacemaker is set at 70 ppm, some people with pacemakers have the pacemaker rate set below their normal heart Resting rate Ex. normal rate 50 ppm Pacemaker set at 45 ppm. What determines the optimun pulse rate for the pacemaker? My Doctor is willing to set it at any rrrrrrrrrrate I choose. I am 86 years old in good physical shape, play tennis do nautilis and swim several times a week.
572651 tn?1530999357 Happy, happy birthday DJ!!! I hope it is a wonderful party! Thanks for letting us know, Lulu.
Avatar f tn We have had a EEG, CAT Scan done and nothing has shown up. Where do we go from here? I was also wondering can the pacemaker be set to high they have it set at 60 bpm.? They are trying to tell us that it might be her inner ear I do not believe it.
Avatar n tn In August this year I had a pacemaker implanted (3 lead MEDTRONIC C2TRO1) The rate was set at 90 and although relieved that I would not go out of sinus I did not feel well, suffering insomnia, short of breath with almost any sort of exercise. I went last week for my 6 weeks check up and the rate was set at 75. This has improved my awareness of the heart beating but I do not sleep much better, am very tired and a small flight of stairs means that I an beating around 87. Can the rate be lowered?
Avatar f tn t have a battery. Is this true? Incidentally, my pacemaker had not been activated for several years, as it was set for the minimum and didn't ever have to kick in.
Avatar f tn My blood pressure has been running low around 80/60 and heart rate 93 I get a dizzy feeling when this happens and my heart feels like it is going to pop out of my chest. Could this because they have my pacemaker set so high, before the pacemaker my heart rate was in the 40's.
Avatar m tn My brother has had a pacemaker/debrillator for years. In the last 2 years we have nearly lost him 9 times due to low potassium. The diagnosis has been "low potassium" as the cause for his heart stopping which requires the defbrillator to shock him and bring him back. He has been rushed to the ER and had lengthy hospital stays each time. He is WORN OUT. Is there any kind of home test to check potassium levels for heart patients? Or a home test for electrolytes?
Avatar f tn The ventricular part is 100% pacemaker, the Atrial was only 3% pacemaker. I found out 3 weeks ago the Atrial is now 49% pacemaker. The Atrial has been going down for 2 years. What effect will that have with my double chamber pacemaker. Apparently my Cardiologist foresaw this happening, I hope. Is it natural to lose all of the electricity in your heart and still do fine with your pacemaker? My new Cardiologists don't seem at all concerned.
341190 tn?1295467125 I understand your not a health professional but your experienced words do help, I also thought it was set too low but then reasoned that if it was set any higher it would be kicking in every 5 mins as i have slow beat anyway round 60-65, how are you anyway, was looking at your pics you have a beautiful family, I will stay in touch.
Avatar f tn But it is the stupid setting (permanent pace at ventricle) for a non pacemaker dependent. Normally they set at mode switching (sense and pace) so they also know/recording the heart events base on the switches. I can feel few beats (I'm not sure was V-tach or V-fib) came because my pacer picks up 2 beats late. It was told by the technician. Well, the ER and CCU doctors thought that my pacemaker was not working...... Only my EP can explain to them.
Avatar f tn I just had a dual lead pacemaker put in 3 days ago to control accelerated junctional rhythm. The same night of surgery I had ajr of 135 it had overridden my pacemaker. I continue to have junctional rhythms and very rarely is my heart rate,at 85 which is what pacemaker is set at. I can't walk from one room to another without heart racing and out of breath. I feel horrible.. Will this get better as maybe my heart is irritated? I feel worse than. Before pacemaker.
572651 tn?1530999357 t pin down the appt time. I hope I will hear later that he is all set to go. His MS really needs something to kick it into the corner; all this stress has not been good. DJ is another tough cookie. She's trying to sort out why she survived the meningitis/sepsis this past winter. she says it can't possibly be to live in the condition she is facing right now and continues to hold the hope that she will be doing better.
Avatar n tn We can ask the cardiologist a permission to set it off if you want? Me : (a bit angry) It is ok, I think I will take an appointment with her personally. 4 weeks later... Me : I was not aware that my pacemaker is working at anytime to correct my heart beat. Why is that so? Cardiologist : Well the pacemaker can make your heartbeat to go slower or faster. (obviously trying to avoid my question) Me : Why do I need that??? Cardiologist : Let me look at your pacemaker records.
Avatar n tn The pacemaker was changed in October 2008 for a new pacemaker. The rate of the new pacemaker was set not to go under 60 or over 120 beats per minute. I started having feelings of pounding in my chest and irregular heartbeats. The cardiologist told me that there was nothing wrong but changed the lower rate to 70. When I take my pulse, It is frequently under 70. Is this normal or something I should be worried about?
Avatar m tn I have been seriously considering changing Doctors because my current one just doesn’t seem to be able to get the pacemaker set right. It is either too fast or too slow. I feel in this day and age someone should be able to help set the thing better. I would appreciate your comments. Thanking you in anticipation.
Avatar n tn I just got one about three weeks ago but mine is set on 70. When my heart rate would go below about 50 before the pacemaker, I would have all the symptoms you describe. My doctor said that is the case with some people and really thought that mine should be set at 70 because of my age and activity level. (I am 36). I think you should try to set yours higher. 70 seems perfect for me and does not keep me from sleeping or relaxing at all.
Avatar f tn I have a pacemaker and still have pvc's and pac's but the pacemaker is set to only let so much time go between beats so if there is too long a pause it will pick up and beat for you. Yes, they are frustrating but not dangerous at all. I also had pauses for seconds before pm and I know how scary that can be but don't worry!
Avatar f tn I suspect that I have sleep apnea although have not been tested for it or even discussed it with my doctor. I've had a pacemaker for almost 3 years. Should the pacemaker keep me going or is this something that I really should discuss with my doctor?
Avatar f tn NO! In fact it should be the EXACT opposite! SSS should have made you fatigued because of the lack of blood flow to the body and brain; having the pacemaker solves the problem. Having said that, if your pacemaker isn't set at the right rates for you, that could be an issue so talk to your EP doctor. There are a lot of reasons for fatigue so you should see your general physician and be evaluated as well.
Avatar m tn Q: Did any one experience high fluctuations and big increases in BP after the pacemaker (St Jude PM2210) implant? - I am 74 yr old diabetic with hi-BP. I got my first pacemaker installed around mid Sept, '11. After getting the pacemaker, my BP readings have been progressively worst week by week.
Avatar f tn Okay I'm 53 male with a st. Jude pacemaker. Today I was wearing a set of wireless headphones. While carving some wood I felt unusually faint. I stopped and took my pulse. Heart rate was 46. Is it possible the headphones interfered with the pacemakers computer and caused it to stop...my rythum is set at 60bpm...
