Avatar m tn Our 30-foot long gut is embedded with cells of the enteric nervous system, the ENS, a complex system of around 100 million nerves which is often referred to as our "second brain". The ENS supervises the processes of digestion and stays in close contact with, and is heavily influenced by, the central nervous system (the CNS) which comprises the brain and spinal cord. The ENS and CNS use many of the same chemical messengers or neurotransmitters including acetylcholine and serotonin.
Avatar n tn You have suffered a great injustice, and I'm sorry for your experience. I do not know what the black substance was, or what the results of exposure may be. However, the skipped beats may be caused simply by confusion in the heart muscle itself. Your heart cells are all capable of contracting and causing the heart to beat. Usually, this job is segregated to specific cells that most people refer to as the "natrual pacemaker.
Avatar n tn Hi, am doing some research. please can you explain why an 89yr old with pacemaker kept her 70bpm pulse with a fever of 40 deg.C. Also what were the metabolic implications for her? Many thanks.
Avatar n tn The spread of electricity throughout the heart muscle is possible because all heart muscle cells, not just pacemaker cells, are excitable. Usually, the heart muscle cells keep time more slowly than normal pacemaker cells. This allows the pacemaker cells within the SA node to be in control of generating and pacing the heartbeat.

1867019 tn?1353467540 The condition of a slow heart rate is known as Bradycardia and pertains to rates below 60 beats per minute. It can be normal for some to have a resting heart rate below 60 beats, athletes for example, some non athletes as well, and people on certain medications. Also, doing a search, the following were other reasons for Bradycardia: "Bradycardia can be caused by: Conditions that can slow electrical impulses through the heart.
Avatar m tn Simple sugars transmit information, particularly to immune system cells that defend us against infection. When these simple sugars combine in chains along with uronic acid, they’re called “polysaccharides.” Polysaccharides cause the immune cells to be much more active and vigilant against bacteria and other germs. They help in both the prevention and the treatment of infection. Echinacea, aloe vera, and many types of mushrooms are all rich sources of polysaccharides.
Avatar f tn Peppermint isn't really for the stomach unless it's in an enteric coated capsule so it gets to the digestive system. The tea might taste nice, but it's a placebo effect as to the stomach. Chamomile is much better for relaxing the stomach. Ginger is good for motion sickness or nausea, but for reflux, it is a hot herb and might make it feel worse. Something better might be a few ounces of aloe juice and something called DGL, a form of licorice that is chewed as a tablet.
Avatar m tn By function By function, the peripheral nervous system is divided into the somatic nervous system, autonomic nervous system and the enteric nervous system. The somatic nervous system is responsible for coordinating the body movements, and also for receiving external stimuli. It is the system that regulates activities that are under conscious control. The autonomic nervous system is then split into the sympathetic division, parasympathetic division, and enteric division.
Avatar f tn I recently had 23 MILLION STEM CELLS injected into my heart via an angiogram. 80% were dedicated to grow new heart tissue and 20% were "rogue" type cells put into my vascular system. These were stem cells made from my OWN STEM CELLS not embryonic. So, no chance of rejection, no extra pills to take. There is over an 80% chance of improvement. My EF was between 12 and 15% before new stem cells. Have not had another EF test yet. I am diabetic(insulin dependent.
Avatar f tn Hi I have a weak immune system as well and what works for me is Echinacea, Glodenseal, kelp, Enteric coated garlic caps . Astragalus, Codonopsis, burdock root, nettles. Astragalus and the Garlic enteric tabs together really help me feel much better. I also drink 1 quart every other day of Hyssop tea with plenty of water .Hope this helps some.
Avatar n tn If the cells are dead, a cath would not be of any help. If the cells are hibernating due to low blood flow to the area, medication can increase the blood flow to the area....angina with stress and rest normal blood flow. Your symptoms, if any, would be the issue to correct. If you are having chest pain (angina) with exertion and rest relieves the chest pain that would be stable angina and medication can be effective.
Avatar f tn carrots, guava, oranges, berries and most fruits and vegetables.
Avatar m tn I had my decompression done 3 years ago and have been dealing with insomnia and central sleep apnea ever since. This leads me to believe that my brainstem/nervous system is damaged. Stem cells are obviously the only option to repair the damage... http://www.csfinfo.org/education/physician-information/repair-and-regeneration-central-nervous-system/.

Avatar m tn Perhaps a problem lies with the Vagal Nervous System rather than the SA Node itself. Do some research on [ vagal nerve attack ] without the brackets of course. Hypothyroidism? Illicit drug or substance use should be considered. Although the Blood Work purportedly was normal, this likely was for the usual blood counts, electrolytes, etc., and not for abused substances.
Avatar m tn Hi, Implanted Pacemakers are often used when Bradycardia becomes an issue. The term Bradycardia refers to a Heart Rate slower than 60 beats per minute. Heart Rates slower than 60 beats per minute are not that uncommon, and if a person is on some medications, such as Beta Blockers, it can be quite normal. My heat rate would drop to 54 beats per minute when I was at rest, and I am sure even slower while asleep.
Avatar n tn Hi, “A demyelinating disease is any disease of the nervous system in which the myelin sheath of neurons is damaged. This impairs the conduction of signals in the affected nerves, causing impairment in sensation, movement, cognition, or other functions depending on which nerves are involved”.
4520583 tn?1358493740 It was also pointed that our brain and gut are created out of the same type of tissue, where one becomes our central nervous system while the other our enteric nervous system. Even so, they are connected by vagus nerves, explaining how our nervousness translates to butterflies in our tummy. With 95% of happy hormone produced by our gut, it has been interestingly referred as our “second brain”. Some has even gone so far as to relate such findings into exercise and fitness.
Avatar n tn I had 23 Million of my own Stem Cells placed back into my heart muscle and vascular system. I was the 510th person to have this procedure done by an American Cardiologist. Unfortunately6, it can't be done in the USA because it does not have FDA approval!!!! I am awaiting the results of the 23 Million Stem Cells. Please note, these are replications of my OWN Stem Cells - not embryonic - so there is no rejection factor involved.
Avatar n tn The central nervous system (CNS) is one of the two major divisions of the nervous system. The other is the peripheral nervous system (PNS) which is outside the brain and spinal cord. Do you think I have permanent damage? The peripheral nervous system (PNS) connects the central nervous system (CNS) to sensory organs (such as the eye and ear), other organs of the body, muscles, blood vessels and glands.
1400314 tn?1280731525 Hi mcalderon91723, If this were me, one of the things I'd like to know would be what terminated the 7.5 second pause? My understadning is that every cell in your heart can become a pacemaker. It's nature's wonderful backup system in case the regular pacemaker signal doesn't reach the ventricles. The noraml pacemaker is a group of cells in the atrium called the "sino atrial node" or SA node.
Avatar n tn I got a pm implanted for bradycardia and wasn't aware you needed to have irratic spells; just a dx of bradycardia.
