Avatar n tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Has he been evaluated for gastroparesis with a gastric emptying scan? How many calories is he getting each day? I don't think a gastric pacemaker would help because gastric pacemakers help with nausea and vomiting but they don't actually speed up the emptying of the stomach.
Avatar n tn You have suffered a great injustice, and I'm sorry for your experience. I do not know what the black substance was, or what the results of exposure may be. However, the skipped beats may be caused simply by confusion in the heart muscle itself. Your heart cells are all capable of contracting and causing the heart to beat. Usually, this job is segregated to specific cells that most people refer to as the "natrual pacemaker.
Avatar n tn Hi, am doing some research. please can you explain why an 89yr old with pacemaker kept her 70bpm pulse with a fever of 40 deg.C. Also what were the metabolic implications for her? Many thanks.
Avatar m tn Here is a bit of nervous system trivia. Why so many of us have gut and digestive issues. When the baby is in utero a mass of cells develops that begin the process of creating the brain and nervous system. After a few weeks these calls divide and one group becomes the brain and the other the GI tract. They come from identical cells.
255722 tn?1452546541 The spread of electricity throughout the heart muscle is possible because all heart muscle cells, not just pacemaker cells, are excitable. Usually, the heart muscle cells keep time more slowly than normal pacemaker cells. This allows the pacemaker cells within the SA node to be in control of generating and pacing the heartbeat.
Avatar f tn Bloating and/or distention of the digestive system can be due to some blockage of the bowels or some other part of the digestive system.
Avatar f tn s very worst is based in part on the fact that there are several sites in the stomach where the main pacemaker cells to trigger stomach contractions are found. In traditional chinese medicine, the deeper organs can be accessed by more peripheral local points on the arms, legs, and body - some of those points connect up with the stomach. So it's very worth a try. There are also chinese herbs that could be tried.
Avatar f tn I recently had 23 MILLION STEM CELLS injected into my heart via an angiogram. 80% were dedicated to grow new heart tissue and 20% were "rogue" type cells put into my vascular system. These were stem cells made from my OWN STEM CELLS not embryonic. So, no chance of rejection, no extra pills to take. There is over an 80% chance of improvement. My EF was between 12 and 15% before new stem cells. Have not had another EF test yet. I am diabetic(insulin dependent.
Avatar n tn If the cells are dead, a cath would not be of any help. If the cells are hibernating due to low blood flow to the area, medication can increase the blood flow to the area....angina with stress and rest normal blood flow. Your symptoms, if any, would be the issue to correct. If you are having chest pain (angina) with exertion and rest relieves the chest pain that would be stable angina and medication can be effective.
Avatar m tn I thought if a human heart for example was beating in a lab using only its built in pacemaker, it would run at around 100 bpm? The vagus nerve is responsible for the parasympathetic system, which slows the heart down. So if cut, your heart should speed up? Was it a Doctor who told you the nerve may have been damaged? The Vagus nerve also controls of lot of digestive functions, have you noticed any problems?

Avatar f tn What's interesting about the acupuncture/gastroparesis 'connection' is the gastric pacemaker is partially based on the principle of the acupuncture points that are used to help treat symptoms of gastroparesis by acupuncturists. There are two specific acupuncture points that relay to specific areas in the stomach and the acupuncture points are known to help stimulate digestive motor movements.

Avatar n tn I had 23 Million of my own Stem Cells placed back into my heart muscle and vascular system. I was the 510th person to have this procedure done by an American Cardiologist. Unfortunately6, it can't be done in the USA because it does not have FDA approval!!!! I am awaiting the results of the 23 Million Stem Cells. Please note, these are replications of my OWN Stem Cells - not embryonic - so there is no rejection factor involved.
1400314 tn?1280731525 Hi mcalderon91723, If this were me, one of the things I'd like to know would be what terminated the 7.5 second pause? My understadning is that every cell in your heart can become a pacemaker. It's nature's wonderful backup system in case the regular pacemaker signal doesn't reach the ventricles. The noraml pacemaker is a group of cells in the atrium called the "sino atrial node" or SA node.
Avatar m tn Hi, I'm frustrated and really need some advice. I've been having constipation and it's making my life miserable. I had an upper gi & endoscopy test Jan 08, return normal results.
Avatar m tn apparently risperdal is known to cause tachycardia... so the only option i have right now is beta-blockers + pacemaker... OR trying to be as calm as buddha !
Avatar n tn Yes. I have had awful ibs since I was a kid. Since I've been pregnant my symptoms have lessened dramatically. It's like the one relief I've gotten during pregnancy.
696415 tn?1228229959 The sinoatrial node (SA node) is a group of cells positioned on the wall of the right atrium, near the entrance of the superior vena cava. Cells in the SA node will naturally discharge at about 70-80 times per minute. Because the sinoatrial node is responsible for the rest of the heart's electrical activity, it is sometimes called the primary pacemaker, the natural pacemaker.
167426 tn?1254086235 Valter Longo of the University of Southern California and colleagues first tested yeast cells, then human cells in lab dishes. They found healthy cells starved of nutrients survived the ravages of chemotherapy — but not cancer cells. "In theory, it opens up new treatment approaches that will allow higher doses of chemotherapy.
Avatar f tn The test suggest the immune system is healthy, but the digestive system is problematic with the neuron system especially the crystal system of the brain. This is due to inhaling of certain gases (that is somewhat poisonus).
1472764 tn?1287588186 I had a a miscarriage a week ago and since then my digestive system has gone crazy. I had no problems but a little afternoon and early evening sickness when I was pregnant. But now after the miscarriage I feel bloated and sometimes a little crampy and naseaus and my stool is soft. Sometimes I feel like if I eat I'll get sick and if I don't eat I'll get sick. Has anyone else had this problem? How do I stop it? I've been taking tums and gaviscon.
