oxymorphone vs methadone

Have you discussed with your doctor the risk of combining xanax and methadone? I was on a different benzo when on methadone but I also smoked at the time so I think that had something to do with the issues I had.

I am a chronic pain sufferer since age 4. On meds since age 17. Was taking methadone for 8 yrs and wanted off...BAD. Did it! Took me several months but was able to suffer through the wd because the desire to be off that poison was stronger than my desire, to be stable pain wise. It's way too late at almost 50 to be off of narcotics all together so now I've been put on Oxymorphone. Dr is trying to stabilize me with a proper dose but I have this issue.

I have managed to cut my oxymorphone intake to 10mg a day for the last several days.I take it after work but by noon the next day I am already jonesing for my pill.Runny nose stomach ache,you all know the drill.I have read alot of negative stuff about methadone but last summer I went on 30mg a day and tapered down over 3 weeks and got clean with relative ease.Methadone didnt get me high it just kept me from getting sick.I gave up coke meth and alcohol 10 years ago and was happy for a long time.

And when i went to a clinic to get help (methadone clinic), I asked the nurse working there how many people she knew had come off the methadone completely. She stated, "None that i have seen but i've only worked here 8 months...." they will keep in the clinic as long as u will pay. And methadone withdrawal are worse than anything so here I am still a dumb addict.....With a college degree but no where to do b/c who want to hire some1 who can pass a drug screen... Suggestions?

Stands to reason that: 2 x 5mg Percocet = 1 x 10mg Oxycontin Don't quote me on that though. I know Percocet has both Oxymorphone AND Acetaminophen in it, and Oxycontin has Oxymorphone only. I'm not certain what the Acetaminophen brings to the table as far as drug-interactions go, but your statement that the Perc and the Oxy are the same (2x5mg vs. 1x10mg) sounds about right. Hi everyone, I was recently taken off my usual pain med regimine of 75 micr of Fentanyl Patch every 48 hours and 4 mg hydramorphone ( dilauded) 4-6 times a day.

I have not known anyone to use methadone to detox from Hydro's, but I have a friend who used it to kick Oxymorphone and Oxycontin. She took less than you, always about 10mgs a day. Her use was probably close to your 300mg hydros. In total amazement, she had almost no symptoms from the fast acting opioids. The long half life of methadone helped her to adjust slowly and she never formed an addiction to it, so it actually helped a great deal.

I am afraid that this will not take care of my pain and it will be days before I can get an appeal in. Is Opana/oxymorphone stronger than these others that I have taken. I apologize if I'm not making myself clear...I am totally handicapped and bed ridden and I am fearful that I will be in pain.

I am a methadone addict, so that is a concern for me. Short term, I have seen methadone work, though my closest friend used it for oxymorphone and Oxycotin, but I don't think it would be much different. I believe you need a solid plan and aftercare for bupe or methadone to help.'what kind of support do you have locally?

I've thought about enrolling myself into methadone but i don't know much about it really. I began to have second thoughts whenever I realized that they don't start you out with something and then lower it to get you off of opiates... they increase it! That doesn't make sense to me. So instead of getting clean you just get hooked on methadone for the rest of your life? Can someone explain?

5 mg bid yields a 5 mg increase in oxycodone vs. a 15 mg increase. The 7.5 mg oxymorphone ER dose bid would be the closest in terms of equivalent oxycodone dosing. So conversions are not simple and to spare folks of all of this math, I leave it out and provide only what I think is necessary to answer the question.

I am wanting to go off methadone even though it controls my pain. I have read horror stories concerning the drug and the weight gain I have experienced since I started this drug a year and a half ago has been 30 pounds. I have never abused the drug. I usually have a few pills left over each month because I do not take them as long as I can stand the pain. Automobile accidents have did a number on my back and neck. Before my rapid detox I had been on approximately 70mg of methadone for 7 months. Prior to those 7 months I was on oxymorphone (50-200mg daily) for about 6 months. A bit about the detox. I decided to let the methadone clear my system for 72 hours before I took the oral naltrexone. I used hydrocodone(8-10, 10mg tablets daily) to help me through the 72 hours. At 72 hours since my last dose of methadone I took 50mg of oral naltrexone. 45 minutes later I started to feel the naltrexone working.

I am not allowed to say that I take methadone for pain relief. I can only say that pain relief is a side effect of methadone. Well this is fine and dandy until I started to travel for work. Im not sure how long its been since your dose of suboxone, but it always took me about 1hr before I would feel its effects. I was on methadone before going to sub, tapered down from 140mgs-30mgs, then started at 8mgs/suboxone. Im not really sure how methadone compares to morphine milligram wise, but if it doesnt help then talk to your doctor about adjusting your dose. You cant expect to feel great, but it should hold off the w/d's and cravings.
